After going through the election process, Mr Ravinder Renukunta was re-elected as Chairman. Mr Vijay Kumar, Mr Vinod Guati (Treasurer), and Ms Bimla Saund were also re-elected as trustees. New Trustees were Mr Kishore Gupta and Mr Nishant Saini. Mr Vijay Kumar was elected as Secretary. Currently, we have three vacancies available and look forward to filling these positions in accordance with the constitution guidelines.
We want to thank Dr Umesh Kathuria, Dr Monaa Khurana, and Mr Parimal Somani for their service as previous board members.
Overview of the Year 2024
2024 and 2025 will always be very significant and memorable years for our Arya Samaj, as we celebrated the Gyan Jyoti Parv (GJP - spread the Wisdom of Vedas to all humankind) event, which was held under the previous board of trustees. This historic celebration was held on Saturday, 11th May 2024, at The New Bingley Hall, Birmingham. The celebration was on the occasion of the 200th Birth Anniversary of Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati, the greatest believer and propagator of teachings from the Vedas and founder of Arya Samaj, which he established 149 years ago.
We were inspired to hold a grand event after Honourable Prime Minister of India, Shree Narendra Modi, encouraged all of us in India and across the world to celebrate in the years 2023, 2024 and 2025 as 'Gyan Jyoti Parv' to spearhead the Vedic culture, principles of Arya Samaj for bringing enlightenment towards people all over the world. Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati wholeheartedly resolved to bring about a spiritual, social, and national revolution in the world by keeping the knowledge of the Vedas paramount. Due to his wholehearted involvement, India is today an independent nation.
The preparation for GJP began in 2023, with ongoing background work (venue, catering, finances, volunteers, advertising, etc). We also had to send invites, go out flying and visit other community temples to invite them to our event. The goal is to celebrate our founder, Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati's 200th birthday (Jayanti) grandly. It was a testament to our hard work and dedication, but the event was a resounding success. We learned a lot from this experience and are excited about the future opportunities to showcase the Arya Samaj name in the UK.
We had around 100 volunteers on the day to set up Havan, decorate, set up the hall, register participants, and provide Rishi Bhoj facilities, ensuring all audio and video arrangements were in place, etc. We also had stalls set up. The entire event was live on YouTube.
At the registration desk, volunteers greeted the guests with tilak. In the entrance lobby, there was a vast range of books and other items in the Arya Samaj stall. A children's section was also established to encourage them in various activities. We performed Chaturveda Shatakam Havan. It is the offering of Ahutis while Vedic scholars (head of Sarvadesi Arya

After lunch, we had a cultural programme (professional dances, Sanskrit songs, chanting of mantras, speeches etc.) with outstanding performances showcasing the cultures of different parts of Bharat.
Throughout the day, we had about a thousand people participating in our event. Representatives of the Government of India, Dr. Venkatachalam Murugan, Head of the Consulate of Birmingham, Lord Mayor Shri Chamanlal Ji were present as special guests, Prof. Vitthal Rao, Minister of Sarvadesi Arya Pratinidhi Sabha from Hyderabad, India, and Shri Birjanand Yadav, Head of Arya Pratinidhi Sabha Rajasthan, Major Vijay Kumar Chandigarh and Chaudhary Sukhbir Arya Rohtak and many other prominent personalities and guests from various Hindu organisations across England, mainly from West Midlands.
We also had good wishes message from dignitaries who could not attend Yoga Guru Pujya Baba Ramdev ji Maharaj, Ex-UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, the head of Mauritian Arya Pratinidhi Sabha, Prof. Mahavir Agarwal, Vice-Chancellor Patanjali University Haridwar, Prof. Virendra Kumar, Punjab University Chandigarh, Acharya Dr Chandra Shekhar Delhi, Shri Mohan Shastri, Teyap Bihar, Shri Ramnaresh Kumar, Chandigarh, Ramesh Shastri etc.
GJP will always be a memorable event for the Arya Samaj because it was a devoted, passionate, and enthusiastic gathering of all people who wish to pray for the betterment of humanity worldwide.
Full report can be found in special edition of Arya Voice with photos and event can be watch on YouTube.
Under the new board, we are working voluntarily to run Arya Samaj. However, due to the rising cost of living, the loss of our elderly committed members, a lack of involvement from the next generation, and other unforeseen circumstances, Arya Samaj has been financial setback since 2020. We are seeing an increase in non-members attending our activities, but a decrease in funds.
We continue and try to maintain the services of Arya Samaj which have always been provided. The services are as follows:
-
Sanskrit Class - Every Wednesday on Zoom, Acharya Umesh Yadav ji, our learned priest, has been teaching Sanskrit class, including the teachings on Vedas & Upnishad. We are considering discontinuing the Zoom classes, and Acharya ji is exploring the possibility of holding in-person Sanskrit classes. We have had a request from President Mr Mukesh Murria from Geeta Bhavan.
-
The Wednesday Day Centre has not started again in 2024 due to a lack of interest and the loss of elderly members. We don’t want to give up, and we have plans to revive this service, but without volunteers, it isn't proving easy.
-
Yoga - Every Sunday morning, Mr Amrik Virdi leads a yoga class that incorporates teachings on Ayurveda and massage therapy. The class has not seen an improvement in participants. Amrik ji would like to have another day of the week dedicated to yoga to see if attendance improves. We need to help him and support with advertising and spreading the word. In 2024, he started charging £2 per class, 50 percent of this goes to Arya Samaj as a donation and in 2025, this amount will increase to £3.
-
Havan and Satsang - Every Sunday, we have Havan and Satsang, followed by Rishi Bhoj. Similar to 2023, we are seeing improved attendance in Havan, especially among new people, but donations are still low. Once a month, after Havan, we began having a question-and-answer session to enhance Vedic knowledge for attendees in our Sunday congregation. We are considering having Q&A every Sunday after Havan. Efforts will be made to encourage members and friends to submit their questions in advance. We can record the answers in the form of text and share them on social media to raise more awareness. The board of trustees are looking to start a campaign Ghar Ghar Havan as Parivarik Santsang (this is a Havan at members home on a weekday).
-
Matrimonial Service - This service has faced challenges over the years due to changing times. However, we are committed to reviving it and believe there is a demand for our service. We would like to invite more volunteers to spend time on this service, making it a successful part of our community again.
Update:
-
We are internally grateful to all our sponsors and every donation we receive, especially donors who help us bear the cost of the events scheduled in our yearly calendar, as well as to all members and friends who visit this Temple in person or participate on Zoom and everyone who volunteers at events or Sunday Havan, an essential part in running this, Arya Samaj.
-
Bharati Bhavan's rent of £1,200 per month is still being paid, as our tenant is a charitable music school for children. We have not raised the rent, as they are struggling too and likely to close if we ask for more rent. We have a good relationship with them, and we continue for now to see how it goes.
-
Our members & friends' monthly standing orders are crucial to our financial stability, and we are deeply grateful for their consistent support. With all your cooperation and active support, we need to increase the number of these standing orders to ensure the smooth operation of our day-to-day activities at Arya Samaj.
-
Zoom is regularly available to people for Sunday Satsang, Wednesday Sanskrit class, and Ved Katha for the devotes who cannot come to Arya Samaj Bhavan, but the attendance is very minimal; many times, one or two participants for the Sunday Havan Satsang.
-
In 2022, we introduced online and card machine payments, and we will continue to keep this system as it is very convenient to the users.
-
We have a new website, but we still have some work to do on it.
-
In 2023 we introduced Arya Samaj (Vedic Mission) West Midlands Shop through - -
-
https://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/arya samaj birmingham/ to help us get

free donations. We need more of our members and friends to use this service. We kindly request that you use and share this with your family and friends.
-
We continue to seek the rental of our halls, which could provide a significant source of income for Arya Samaj. With parking facilities available at Rookery Road School, we encourage different communities to consider our halls for their events.
-
Members of our community have showed interest in starting Bhangra and Dhol Classes at Arya Samaj in 2025/2026.
Sponsored Yajmans - A total of 20 Yajmans were sponsored for Sunday Havans in 2024 (January-December) . This figure is the same as last year. We are seeing an increase in attendance and a decrease in sponsors. We continue to try to make a difference.
Sanskar & Havan Performed by Acharya Ji - Acharya Ji performed – 43 Sanskar’s & Havan last year (April 2024 - March 2025). ( Simantonayan Sankar – 1, Blessing to newborn baby – 1, Naming Sankar – 1, Annaprashan Sankar – 1, Weddings – 1, Griha Pravesh – 3, Birthday Havan – 5, Family Happiness – 7, Festival Havan – 3, Opening Surgery – 1, Ved Prachar Havan – 1, Cremation + Shanti Havan – 6 and Shanti Havan & Death Anniversary Havan – 12) - Total Income was £6272
This is the same number of Sankar as 2024, but income was around £868 more.
Attending Other Events: The trustees, Acharya ji, and other members have consistently attended various community events. We continue to increase the number of events we attend, enjoying networking and spreading Vedic Culture.
We have had guests from abroad which Acharya ji has hosted and accommodated.
We have a strong relationship with the CGI office, and Acharya ji is involved in interfaith activities. We have visited numerous temples, events, and met with dignitaries, seizing every opportunity to speak about Arya Samaj. Our efforts to promote Arya Samaj have been significant. These interactions have been instrumental in our ongoing efforts to build relationships.
Events:
From April 2024 to March 2025, we organised and held several significant events. These are as follows with a summary (complete reports with photos can be found in Aryan. Voice):
Welcome to the New CGI – On Sunday, 14th April 2024, we had a special Havan to welcome the new CGI, Dr Venkatachalam Murugan, and his staff to Arya Samaj Bhavan. The visit was aimed at sharing and promoting our Vedic cultural values. We also visited Dr V Murugan at his office to personally invite him and his team to the GJP celebrations.
Gyan Jyothi Parv Celebration – (Information in overview)
Gaytri Maha Yajna - This important annual event was celebrated on 9th June 2024. It was performed with four Havan Kund's. Approximately 100 participants, aged between 2 and 90 years old. This event was within one month of GJP.
Independence Day of Bharat - was celebrated on Sunday, 15th August 2024. After Havan members, guests, and young children performed Shoha Yatra (auspicious procession) to honour the greatness of Bharat. We had around 150 guests, which included the chief guest from CGI, Mr Arun Kumar, Vice Consul.
Ved Katha – It took place from Monday, 19th August, to Saturday, 24th August 2024. Starting from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., the Topic was the importance of the Ishopnishad. Joining on Zoom, we had a bhajan singer (Mr Jitender Kumar Arya) performing Arya Bhajans. We also had the privilege of listening to other Vedic Scholars from India. (Acharya Ramesh Kumar Arya from Chandigarh).
' Student s Blessing - On Sunday 8th September 2024 following the offering by Vedic Ganpati and Saraswati Suktam. We had about 50 children accompanied by their parents performing a Havan. This event is very important as it encourages children to participate in Vedic Learning while experiencing peace of mind through Havan.
Oath Ceremony – On Sunday, 13th October 2024, for welcoming new Board of Trustees. (Pratigyavrat) by Parton Shri Krishan Chopra and Shri J P Sethi. Blessing with mantras by Acharya ji Umesh Yadav.
Diwali and Nirvana Divas – We celebrated on Saturday 9th November 2024. This was a small event, as there were many other functions on the same day & most our trustees were on holiday. We had about 50 people. The programme included Lakshmi Sooktam Havan, lighting of lamps, meet and greet, followed by prasad.
Republic Day of Bharat - We celebrated on Sunday 26th January 2025. We had around 120 guests. Our special guest was West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner Mr Simon Foster. The Board of Trustees honoured Dr Umesh Kathuria (ex-senior trustee) and Mr Gaurav Goel (Young Entrepreneur). Havan was performed, followed by flag hoisting, motivational speeches, and performances by children and adults showcasing their talents.
' International Women s Day and Holi Festival – We celebrated on Sunday 16th March 2025. Our special guest was PC Rani Gundhu QPM, the longest-serving female officer at West Midlands Police. We had women & children performing Havan alongside Acharya ji. The show mainly involved women to show women empowerment.
150th Arya Samaj Foundation Day – This event, which falls into next year's report, was another significant milestone for us. The preparation began at the end of 2024, although on a smaller scale than GJP, it was just as important, and a lot of work went into the planning. The event was a great success for our Arya Samaj.
Conclusion:
Our conclusion is the same as 2023. As we contemplate the future of Arya Samaj, we are faced with a pressing need for action.
There is a lot of work to be done, and we urgently require individuals to step forward and contribute their time, whether it is a small or substantial amount.
While we deeply value the advice and ideas of our members, it is the volunteers who are the lifeblood of any charity. We are in dire need of your support, help, and guidance.
As we bid farewell to our founders, senior members, and friends, who are no longer with us, we are reminded that the future of Arya Samaj rests in the hands of the next generation. It is time for them to step forward.
In the volunteering sector, everything takes time, and last year, most of our time went to celebrating 150 years of Arya Samaj. If any young adults want to get involved in the organisation events, we welcome you.
The members who have been in touch with us. We are grateful for your support and ideas, and we will explore how to implement these suggestions with your help.
With new projects in mind, we are hopeful that the board will be able to juggle these alongside our existing responsibilities. However, to ensure the sustainability of Arya Samaj, we must find ways to engage with our community and raise funds for the daily operations of our building.
We need to promote our Samaj on social media platforms more effectively to spread our institution's message. We continue to achieved a good result, with a significant increase in the number of guests from various organisations and communities who attended our Bhavan. This also encourages more people to join the Arya Samaj membership. However, we have WhatsApp, Facebook and YouTube social media as well, but still, we need to focus more on it.
We have a big problem with homelessness and anti-social behaviour in front of the Arya Samaj. We are aware and working with the councillor, the public, and authorities to find solutions, but the resources of Birmingham City Council could be higher. With the help of Cllr Rinkal Shergill and the public, we did initiate a petition with the community to install a camera on Rookery Road; however, at present, there is no funding available for this project. We need to find financing for a fence in front of the building.
On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I thank Acharya Ji for continuing to fulfil all his duties, including Havan, Satsang, performance of Sanskars, and overseeing Bhavan, among others.
Lastly, but most importantly, on behalf of our Chairman and the Board of Trustees, I would like to thank all our members, friends and sponsors for their continued support and commitment to ASWM. With your support, we continue to do the valuable work started by our Founder Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati. Let us all work together and make our samaj progress for the future.
: Om Shanti:

Independent examiner's report to the trustees of Arya Samaj (Vedic Mission) West Midlands ('the Company')
I report to the charity trustees on my examination of the accounts of the Company for the year ended 31 March 2025.
Responsibilities and basis of report
As the charity's trustees of the Company (and also its directors for the purposes of company law) you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Companies Act 2006 ('the 2006 Act').
Having satisfied myself that the accounts of the Company are not required to be audited under Part 16 of the 2006 Act and are eligible for independent examination, I report in respect of my examination of your charity's accounts as carried out under Section 145 of the Charities Act 2011 ('the 2011 Act'). In carrying out my examination I have followed the Directions given by the Charity Commission under Section 145(5) (b) of the 2011 Act.
Independent examiner's statement
I have completed my examination. I confirm that no matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe:
-
accounting records were not kept in respect of the Company as required by Section 386 of the 2006 Act; or 2. the accounts do not accord with those records; or
-
the accounts do not comply with the accounting requirements of Section 396 of the 2006 Act other than any requirement that the accounts give a true and fair view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination; or
-
the accounts have not been prepared in accordance with the methods and principles of the Statement of Recommended Practice for accounting and reporting by charities (applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102)).
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
