The charitable objects of the Trust are lo promote the good health of the public in the United Kingdom
and to advance its education in particular but not exclusively by..
promoting the practice and advancement of urogenital radiology in the UK.,
providing a forum, for dlscusslon and support among radiologists involved in the practice of
urogenital radiology-
- fostering opportunitles for audlt, research tralning and education in urogenital radiology;
encouraging an interest in urogenital radiology among radiological trainees.,
providing a source of advice on all matters relating to the practice of urogenltal radiology to the
Royal College of Radiologists and other relevant b¢xlles: and
supporting radiologi8t8 Involved in tha practice of urog8nital radlology Includlng their education, the
provision of information and by raising their awar&ness of any political or other inlliatives likely to
affect their practice of uiogenital radiology for the public benefit.
The aims are for the BSUR to promote Urogenital radlology, to support education, training and
research within this field. Training is provided for both patients and medical staff, with educational
ntent and patient information leaflets available on the website www.bsur.org.uk.

The provision of the Annual scientific meeting which is attended by radiologists. radiographers and
trainees aims lo cover dtrterent aspects of urogenital radiology.

Patient educatlon - patlent18aflels and Inform81ion are available on the website for patient education.
Guidance on urogenital radiology - this is promded both by guidelines being available on the website
and via regular Corresponden￿ with the Royal College of radiologisls. As a Special Interest Group
(SIG), there is regular communication behveen BSUR trust885 and with the Royal College of
Radiologists regardlng changes In natlonal procedures, guldelines and actlvttles of other Special
Interest Groups.
Publlc beneflt
In the interest of the publlc benefit the Charlty wlll:
Provide advice to member8 on all aspects of urogenil81 r8diology including training. education,
palient investigation and management, directed at improving medical care for all patients with
urogenital disorders.
Provide advice to professional medical organisations and govemrnent bodies on all aspeds of
urogenital radiology including setting standards for palienl 5ervi¢es.
Act as a contact poinl for non-medlcal professlonal bodles le.g. legal profasslon) on all asp8Cts of
urogenital radiology.
Provide patient Infomallon on Invest]gatlons ￿leVant to urogenltal Tadiology and onllne resource8 on
relevant urogenllal dlsorders.

Achlevèmonts and perfomiance
Thè BSUR webslte Is being maintained and updated as required to include more educatlonal mat&rlal,
both for patients and healthcare professionals. Ther8 are sections designed for members which the
general public cannot access directly, as well as patient inlormalion explaining some procedure8 that
are undertaken for the benefit of patient education. A website officer has been appointed to oversee
this.
A junior representative was elected onto the BSUR committee In 2013 In order to help promote
Urogenltal radiology amongst radiology tralnees as well as include feedback to the society aboLrt the
needs of current trainees.
The Royal College of Radiologlsts hold Special Interest Group meetlngs whlch are attended by
member of BSUR committee to feedback aims and objectives of the society as wall as any curr8nt
Issues that might need resolving.
The Annual Scienlrfic Meeting for 2024 was held in Manchester in May 2024. The next ASM Is due lo
be held in London in May 2025. The annual meeting is the main source of income for the society, as
well as annual membership subscriptions. The charlty also runs Virtual weblnars throughout the year,
Including a Trainee Study Day.
Flnanclal revlew
Incoming resources from charitable during the year amounted to £139.124, alongside £1,472 of
Investment Sncome. After deducting resources expended 01 £140,990 a deficlt of £394 arose whlch
reduced the charlty's r888r¥e8 to £109,832.
The Financial Reserves held by the Charity are held lo cover..

2. Costs to maintain and improve the BSUR website.

The Charitie8 maift source of income for the year was from the Annual Scientific Meeting, donations
from organisations and a small amounl of income from memberships. These will continue to be the
main sources of income for the Charity.

Recruitment and appolntment of trustees
Members of BSUR who are elected onto the BSUR Committee are automatically madé trustees of the
souety. Sinc8 becoming a charity. new committee members and trustee$ are elected as required at
the BSUR AGM on an annual basis as positions b8come vacant due to other commrttee mambers
completlng their terrns of office.
Members of BSUR are asked If they would like to become a member of the commlltae and If so, are
nominated by another fflember prlor lo belng elected as a trustee. If two candldates show Interest, a
vote occurs to decide which person will become the next truste8.
Inductlon and tralning of trustees
New Iruslees are introduced to th8 Structure of the sociaty by other commlttee memb8r8 and trustees.
Each truslee 18 givén a 18rm of offic8 and their role within the BSUR explain8d prior lo them starting
as a trustee.
Organlsatlonal structure
Regular discussions occur betrNeen trustees, via face-to-face committee meetings, teleconferences,
email discussions and at the Annual Saentific Meeting (ASMI. Decisions are made regarding th8
running of the society following discussions be￿een trustees. A majorrty decision is required before a
final declslon Is made.
Each Irust8e has been glven a deltned role within the soclety in order to dlstrlbute the work and
ensure that all the relevant areas are filled.

The trustees have a duty to identify and review the risks to which the charity 18 exposed and to ensure

The trustees (who are also the directors of British Society of Urogenit81 Radiology for the purposes of
company law) are responsible lor preparing the trustees, report and the financial statements in
accordance with applicable law and United Kingdom Accounting Standards {United Kingdom
Generally Accepted Accounting Practi￿1, including FRS 102 "The Financial Reporting Standard
applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland" The report and accounts have been prepared in
accordance wrth the provisions in the Companies Act 2006 relating to small companies.
Company law requires the trustees to Prepare financial statements for each financial period. Under
company law the trustees musl not approve the financial statements unless they are satisfied that
they give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the charitable company and of the incoming

Taxation
The charrty is considered to pass the tests set out in Paragraph 1 Schedule 6 of the Finance Act 2010
and therefore it meets the definition of a charitable company for UK corporation tsx purposes.
Accordingly, the charity Is potentially exempt from taxation in respect of income or capital 9ains
received within categories covered by Chapter 3 Part 11 of the Corporation Tax Act 2010 or Sectlon
256 of the Taxation of Chargeable Gains Act 1992, to the extent that such Income or galns are
applied exclusively lo charitable purposes.

Cash and cash equivalents comprise cash on hand and call dep051ts, and other short-term highly

Inleresl-bearing borrowings are initially recorded at fair value, net of transaction costs.

the proceeds. net of transaction costs, and the amount due on redemption being recognised as
charge to the Slalement of Financial Activities over the p8riod of Ihe relevant borrowing.
Interest expense is recognised on the basis of the effective interest method and is induded in intere$t

Borrowings are classified as current liabilities unless the Charity has an unconditlonal rlghl lo defer

Unrestricted income funds are general funds that are available for use at the trustees discretion in

Flnancial assets and IlnancSal IlabSlllles are recognlsed when the charity becomes a party to the
contractual provisions of the instrument.
Fin8nrial liabilities and equity inslruments are classlfied accordlng to the substance of the contractual
arrangemenls entered into. An equity instrument is any contract that evldences a residual inleresl in
the assets of the charity afler deducting all of its li8bililies.
Recognttlon and measurement
All financial assets and liabilities are initially measured at transa¢tion price (induding transaction
costs), except for those financial assets classified as al fair value through profil or loss, which are
initially measured al fair value (which is normally th8 transaction price excluding transaction costs),
unless the affangement constitutes a financing transaction. If an arrang8menl constitutes a financing
tr8nsaction, the financial asset or financial liability is measured at the present value of the future
payments dlscounted at a market rate of Interest for a similar debt instrument.
