Strurture, governonce and management 8 Below Husky Rescue is on unincorporated association registered Charity, number 1156670, was constituted 10th Februory 2014 and established on 14th April 2014. Prior to this dote we ran as a rescue for a year. When we recognised how successful both re-homing rate5 and donated income from supporters hod become, the next step was to register with the Charity Commission in England and Woles. It would allow us to be seen os o registered charity, which would open up more avenues for us such os applyfor grant5 andfunding and eventually gift aid on donotions. We alsofelt thot with the transparency requiredfrom charity status and the oppointment it would put people at eose more when it come5 tofundroising and donations as being a 5tondord rescue with no chority statu5 ha5 no official governance.
New trustees are oppointed by the current trustee boord based on their commitment to the charity. Trustees will continually serve unless either porty decide to terminate their position for the good of the charity. The constitution requires the chority to run on o minimum of 3 trustees. We currently hove four with Timothy Wicks hoving the deciding vote if required. There are no plans to increase our board of trustees in the comingfinoncial year. All trustees give their time freely ond no trustee remunerotion was poid during the yeor. Details of trustee expenses ond related party transactions ore disclosed in note 2 to the account5. Trustees are required to disclose oll relevant interests and register them with the Choirmon. Achievements ond Performance 2023-2024 saw continued pressure on our rescue, with ongoing issues from the pandemic os well a5 the stort of the cost of living crisis across the UK- more pound dogs needing our help with behoviour issues due to the lock of socialisotion along with dogs needing veterinary care from bosic levels of vaccinations, porosite treatment and neutering/spoying to more complex urgent core of undiagnosed lumps ond amputations of limbs due to car accidents which puts a stroin on usfinonciolly. We continued with our lorgest in personfundroising events Leeds & 8akewell Camp and Open Day with great success, all our supporters had an amazing time ond help raised vitolfundsfor our rescue. We olso attended o number of other events across the country and of course this included our store days with Pets at Home Pontefroct. 2023-2024 continued to see o big demand for our online fundraising which was implemented bosed on government guidelines during the pondemic, we have continued this with success to help raise vitol funds - these included the online fundraising of ouctions and roffles, virtual challenges and regular online dog show5 and taking part in the notional Big Give Christmos Compoign - we will continue with thi5 movingforward. We predicted thot the number of dogs during 2023-2024 ond beyond would see significant increoses, with current levels of dogs needing our help quodrupling from pre-covid levels. Many orriving needing medical treotment, parasite treotments, microchipping and spoy/neutering, we have over dogs waiting to come into rescue due to privote relinquishes, this doesn't include the doily collsfrom councilpounds needing our help to secare o safe rescue spoce or the dogs serving their 7 statutory doys would be euthonised on day 8 due to overcmwding ond lock of space. Our online store soles hove incre05ed, which bring5 additional revenue to our rescue. We plan to add more items in the coming year to our online store. It is important to us thot our supporters know we are responsible with their donations which is why we renewed with the Fundraising Regulator and since we hove become officially recognised by HMRCfor Gift Aid claims. our plea's to supporters to sign up for this has been successful, in the coming yeor we are going to look at trying to increase more regular donations through monthly standing orders and askfor the GiftAid sign up as this will give us more stobility with regular donations.
Finondol review The principal funding sources ore generol donations sponsorship of specific dogs in care, donotions received from odopters when the dogs are rehomed, income generated from fundraising events ond income generotedfrom the sale of merchandise. Merchandise soles accountfor about 21% of our total income. This is not yet substantial but hos grown rapidlyfmm previous year5. It is possible in thefuture,. a troding subsidiary of the Charity moy be needed. Although Donations ore lower than last year, we hove mode considerable redurtions in some costs and manoged to only have o deficit of £159for the yeor. We are also now registeredfor Gift Aid with HMRC and have been oble to make claim5 where opplicable. Longer term the Chority would like to obtoin gmntfunding for specific projects ond establish o relotionship with longer term sponsors. Allfunds ore used tofurther the goals and objertives of our Chority ond help os mony dogs as we are oble. Reserves pollcy During the year it hos been the intention thot ollfunds generoted are expended in occordance with the objertives of the Chority. However, the Charity reolises that they must build bock up the equivalent of 4 month5 operoting costs into reserves. This would oct as a buffer if there was o dmp in income or allow the orderly winding down of the Chority if required. Future Plans Our oim5for next yeor are.. . To increase sociol medio presence even more to generote more followers To increase ourfundroising octivities, continue to concentrote on online fundroising more as this is where our supporters seem to engoge more ond look ot odditionol in-personfundroising opportunities in 2024/2025 Promote the benefits of regular giving via monthly standing orders to our rescue Promote GiftAid signup Look to bring on o port time staff member os port of the rehoming team Implement more training with 8 Below Husky Rescue Trustee
