To advance public education in the Arts and to promote knowledge, understanding and appreciation in the Arts (in particular drama, scenography, music, dance, visual and performing Arts) by the production, in collaboration with other artists and venues, of innovative plays and performance work that are both intellectually stimulating and entertaining, and of a national and international standard of excellence.

2024/25 was largely a fallow year in the activities of the charity. This was largely due to some ongoing health issues of the senior staff and the lengthy time needed to make a full recovery.

Section D                      Achievements and performance 

**Summary of the main achievements of the charity** 1. Work continued on MARTHA GUNN, a new play to **during the year** celebrate the 300th birthday in 2026 of the iconic Queen of the Dippers and Great-Grandmother of Brighton. To raise funds and public interest, a reading of the play took place at the Lantern Theatre, Brighton in December 2024, to a packed and appreciative house. 2. Faynia Williams was appointed Adjudicator of the Brighton & Hove Arts Council’s Annual Drama Awards. Six short-listed local productions were seen and reported on through autumn 2024, leading to an awards ceremony in November. This was a valuable opportunity to engage with the wider theatre community and extend consequent public benefit. 3. Development progressed through the early months of 2025, on the two parallel projects, MARTHA GUNN and PLAYING TCHAIKOVSKY, towards a possible double production in 2026/27. 4. Brighton Theatre maintained an active presence through the year with local, national and international organisations. These included the Martha Gunn Trust, the Ironworks Creative, Faynia Williams’ School Governorship of Brighton Girls and Richard Crane’s membership of the International Playwrights’ Forum. .

We intend to build up reserves as appropriate to a small grant aided arts charity. Ideally we would like to have sufficient reserves to enable us to invest in innovative productions without over reliance on external grants.

Income was minimal for the reasons described in Sections C &D. 

A small amount of donation income of £242 was received. 

During the year our work has advanced public education and knowledge of the Arts fully in accordance with our objects.
