Achievements and Performance

SORP reference
Summary of the main
achievements of the charity,
identifying the difference the
charity’s work has made to
the circumstances of its
beneficiaries and any wider
benefits to society as a
whole.
Para 1.20 Flower Guild:
After another year without oasis, I have at
last found a biodegradable one. It means
that for celebratory days, we can have a
decorated pedestal. Thanks to Beryl, Ruth,
Jen, Gill and Ann who can always be relied
upon to help. Thanks to all of you for
money given in memory of a loved one or
to celebrate a special day. I rarely ask the
church for money because of your
generosity. We love arranging beautiful
flowers and hope you enjoy them too.
Carol Hams
Home Discussion Group at 21
Kempsfield:
The group has continued to meet monthly
throughout the year with usually 6
or 7 members present. To date, each
meeting has focused on the theme of a
chapter in ‘Living the Questions’ by David
Felton and Jeff Murphy. Discussions
are lively with a variety of points of view
presented. We often use short videos
and broadcast discussions to help focus
our thoughts and also to present a
different viewpoint.
Ann King
Ladies Evening Group:
The Ladies Evening Group continues to
thrive with a membership of 50 and an
average attendance of around 30. It is a
very friendly informal Group and we have
been pleased to welcome several new
members during the last couple of years.
The Group has heard a variety of speakers

on a wide range of subjects – one brought a duck, which waddled round the hall!! Some of our own members have arranged quizzes and Beetle Drives which have been fun. Members usually arrange a Spring Coffee Morning and Christmas Fayre for the Chairman’s chosen charity, which this year is the Multiple Sclerosis Society and also for Church funds. The Summer outing, in July, is a trip along the canal with tea and cake on board!! If you would like to join the Group, please come along to one of our meetings, usually the first and third Wednesdays in the month (except August when we break for the Summer), you would be made most welcome. Keep an eye on the Church notices! Marion Butler Messy Church: On the second Sunday afternoon of the month, you will usually find between 15 and 25 children, carers and helpers in church for a Messy Church session. As people arrive, they are welcomed and given a name label and a little bag to take things home in. There is usually an introductory activity then a story is read out and the theme of the session is introduced. We then go through to the hall where various activities are set out on tables. After about 40 minutes (hopefully with all the activities completed) we go back into the church to talk about what we have made and done. We sing a couple of songs (sometimes with actions) and say a prayer. We then form a circle, say the Messy Grace and return to the hall to find that the activities have been cleared away and a long table is set for us to have our meal and a chance to chat. Janine Fanshawe Music at St Andrew’s: The Music Group and choir continue to flourish. The Music Group meets on a Monday afternoon between 4 - 5. During this time we have a small group of people join us who just enjoy singing. The Music group benefits greatly from this, as it is much easier to play when the words are being sung. Twice a month we are joined by the church choir. This is gradually growing as a lot of the music group also sing with this. Our aim at the moment is to sing an Introit once

a month and then sing the hymns in 3 part harmony where possible. To this end the Choir joins the Music Group on the first Monday of the month and this session is skilfully led by Ray Adams. At this rehearsal we practice the introit and then record any hymns that are needed for the Mid Week Musical Reflections. Ray also introduces us to a range of new music. The Choir return on the 3rd Monday of the month to practice the hymns for the following Sunday service. This is the service led by the Music Group. The Mid Week Musical Reflections continue to be recorded and sent out via email once a month. The team to record the reflection is growing and over the past year has included Ray Adams, Gary Gotham, Ann King and John Saunders. They choose hymns based on the theme and then give the task of recording them to the church musicians who enjoy the challenge. These recordings are viewed between 70 - 80 times. If you haven't seen them before contact Alisia and she will add you to the list. They are also available on DVD for those who do not use the internet. There are some instruments available if you used to play and would like to take it up again or are interested in learning a new instrument. Do consider coming to join us to sing or play an instrument. There is no pressure and it is a very lovely, friendly and supportive group. Alisia Davies Pastoral Care: The pastoral team continue to support those in need through prayer, phone calls and visits where possible. We recently delivered Easter cards and palm crosses to those no longer able to get to church. We are still in need of more pastoral contacts, if you are interested, please see one of the team. Jean Green Poetry Group: After over four years, the Poetry Group has resumed. Some of our original participants have moved away and our group is very small. However, we are not short of enthusiasm. We choose a subject on which to focus our poems. To date, we have had Spring, All Seasons and Colours. Do come along and enjoy an afternoon of sharing poetry. Prayer Group: Our meetings are every other Monday at

46 Sarum Drive at 10.30am. We find it a
very useful meeting, sharing news of the
church family (and a coffee) and pray again
for everyone mentioned in the church
prayer group from the day before. Then in
turn, we say a prayer we have each chosen
ending with the Grace -and another coffee!
Premises:
It has proved somewhat difficult to get the
quotes needed to move forward with
planned improvements to the church. We
seek to make the buildings more
accessible to those with reduced mobility
and improve the energy efficiency by better
insulating our doors and windows. Repairs
to the roof caused by slipped tiles is about
to start, again with delays sourcing
tradespeople who could proceed. There
are increasing numbers of outside hirers of
our buildings. This both brings life to our
rooms that would otherwise stand empty
and bring in welcome money through hire
charges.
Trish Lee
Safeguarding:
Various people have now completed the
Advanced Safeguarding Course, necessary
because of their roles. This could be done
either online or on a day course. There is a
ongoing need for updating the Creating
Safer Spaces course and renewing DBSs.
Individuals concerned are personally
contacted for this. More importantly, there
have been no incidents requiring
safeguarding action. Everyone in our
church community is involved in
safeguarding; if we notice anything that
makes us feel anxious or concerned for
either a child or a vulnerable adult, our
response should be to notify me as
Safeguarding Officer as soon as possible.
Trish Lee
SOCAT:
The catering team has been busy over the
last few months providing refreshments for
a variety of events. These range from Lent
lunches to catering for 80+ at the recent
Methodist Synod. It is a team effort which is
well-supported by those in the
congregation
who
supply
soups,
casseroles, puddings etc. Thank you to all
who help in any way.
Jean Green
Thursday Coffee morning:
This is an ever-changing group. Sometimes

it is quiet with only a few attending, and other times, it is unaccountably busy. The local Climate Café also uses this space at the same time. If you want to find out how to make your lifestyle more sustainable or want to have interesting conversations with like-minded people, you may like to come along. This is one of the places where church members meet informally with other Devizes residents. There are several people who are on the rota to make coffee and act as a host. As always, more new people would be welcome to either come along and join in the chat or to make and serve the coffee. Trish Lee Tuesday Fellowship: During the last year our group has grown and now has an average attendance of sixteen. We are saddened to report the passing of Richard Carter, he will be sadly missed. We have listened to some interesting speakers this year, a lady who taught us some deaf sign language, a talk by a London Cabbie as well as some thoughtprovoking talks by various charities. We have also had fun, a games afternoon, a quiz and tea parties. We have enjoyed a dip into the archives of the group and tried to guess members from their baby photos. It has been a busy year! I would like to thank the Committee for their hard work, Ursula our birthday secretary, Ann our pastoral secretary, the kitchen crew, Terry on the piano and Janine. The strength of the group is that everyone is very willing to help and support each other. Marie Crook Under Five's Organisation: St. A's s Stay and Play Group, every Thursday Morning is surviving Angela 's retirement, thriving under the Leadership of Vici and Charlie, who are long-standing regulars and Child Minders, with support from Kath, Catherine, Marie, Gill and Jayne. We've improved the room layout to make more room to play, introduced healthier snacks and firmed up on fire procedures; a toy-sort and cupboard clearout will have happened by the time you read this. Sharing equipment between 3 groups has had its challenges, but the Child Minders (Wednesday morning) and Home-Start North Wilts (Friday morning) bring their own strengths and ideas. A members'

review of our new and current practices is planned for June. We usually have 10-15 adults, with as many as 30 little ones...from babes-in-arms to those off to School in September . Starting up on Monday afternoons in 1977, expanding to Thursday mornings as well in 1999, the Monday group didn't start up again after COVID, as all its members were then at school. We thank God for Angela Ellis' key role for 25 of those years and that we're able to continue to offer friendship and activity in warm, safe, caring environment. Kath Saunders Weekly Link: The “weekly Link” is the news sheet of St Andrew’s and of Trinity church, emailed to everyone who has signed up for it. It provides a weekly diary of church events along with regular features: the lectionary for the current Sunday, a prayer and (usually) a “reflection” from that week’s preacher. It can also include a report of a recent activity or an advertisement for one that is coming up; an article regarding a subject of interest or concern; a poem; or perhaps a picture. Peter Fanshawe (Ed: The Weekly Link is included as a group for several reasons. It is our first, largely virtual group. We are all invested as we can both receive it and offer a contribution when inspired.)
