Trustees Annual Report to 31[st] March 2023
Purpose
The purpose of the Great Parks Chapel Management Trust is to oversee the activities at Great Parks Chapel and to ensure they are in keeping with the Objects of this trust.
Objects
The Objects of this trust are for the benefit of the public and regard has been given to the Charity Commission's guidance on public benefit. The Objects include:
-
to advance the Christian faith
-
to relieve sickness, financial hardship and promote good health with funds, goods and services in the UK or anywhere in the world as the trustees think fit and
-
to advance education where, and as, the trustees think fit.
Achievements and Performance
Great Parks Chapel offers a wide range of services each week with some special events during the course of the year. We trust that our community, young and older, find these interesting, helpful and spiritually uplifting. As well as Easter, Harvest and Christmas services there are regular times of prayer in the chapel as well as in homes. Groups for young people provide Christian teaching as well as guidance for living.
We have seen numbers remaining stable at our activities including at our weekly Mums and Toddlers group, our Sunday morning family services, and at the numerous Bible study home groups held each week.
All are welcome at our regular services and events including the weekly Warm Spaces mornings and the occasional church Sunday lunch
From time to time we hold special events in the Chapel, such as child dedications, baptisms and funeral services.
Structure
Trustees This CIO was established on 1[st] July 2014 and continues with 4 trustees. Leaders There is n0rmally a team of 3 unpaid leaders who oversee the main spiritual thrust of the chapel.
Cleaner The trust employs the services of one of our church members to keep the chapel clean and tidy.
Members Those who attend Great Parks Chapel are either invited or request to become members and the number of members now stands at 46.
Volunteers Great Parks Chapel is most fortunate that there is a hardworking, loyal team of volunteers: musicians, caterers and helpers in all our services and activities.
Outreach and Mission
To interest the community in our activities and our faith, from time to time we would organise a Christianity Explored course held in the chapel.
Each week a team visits a local primary school to read Bible stories to children under the organisation Open the Book. During each month, as restrictions would allow, a number of
1
church volunteers meet local residents at their doors or shoppers in Paignton town centre to introduce folk to Great Parks Chapel, its activities and to share our beliefs.
Legal requirements
The trustees are aware of their legal obligations and the appropriate insurances and policies are in place. These include
Food handling certification for those leading the catering teams
All leaders of, and helpers with, youth activities are DBS checked
As required in our Child Protection policy an Advocate has been appointed.
The trustees meet regularly to discuss and decide charity responsibilities. We are aware of the requirements of General Data Protection regulations.
Finances
The end of the financial year for Great Park Chapel is the 31[st] March.
The chapel derives its income from weekly offerings, donations and Gift Aid. The offering received on one Sunday each month (usually the first Sunday) is for the benefit of one of the Christian workers or organisations, which we support. This offering is known as our Window on the World (WOW).
The records and accounts are maintained by a non-paid treasurer and are subjected to an independent examination.
These funds are used to maintain the chapel premises, to cover the cost of our activities and to provide help when, and in whatever manner, the trustees decide. Over the past 12 months we have supported, amongst others
In the UK A number of individual Christian workers and organisations including an organisation that works with UK armed forces Workers in local schools
Worldwide Workers who were based in Asia and involved with disabled and disadvantaged youth
