Great Parks Chapel Management Trust A Charitable Incorporated Organisation Charity number 1156314

Trustees Annual Report to 31[st] March 2022

Purpose

The purpose of the Great Parks Chapel Management Trust is to oversee the activities at Great Parks Chapel and to ensure they are in keeping with the Objects of this trust.

Objects

The Objects of this trust are for the benefit of the public and regard has been given to the Charity Commission's guidance on public benefit. The Objects include:

  1. to advance the Christian faith

  2. to relieve sickness, financial hardship and promote good health with funds, goods and services in the UK or anywhere in the world as the trustees think fit and

  3. to advance education where, and as, the trustees think fit.

Achievements and Performance

For the period covered by this report the UK was in lockdown as a result of the COVID 19 pandemic and so the church premises closed until restrictions were eased. At the time we were able to introduce the use of Zoom in place of our usual face to face services and activities and thereby we followed government guidance for Places of Worship.

Since the lockdown came to an end most of our previous activities have been reintroduced and we are now able to offer a wide range of services and activities for all ages. However the Purpose and Objects of this charity remain unchanged.

In addition to our weekly meetings we hold Easter, Harvest and Christmas services and there are regular times of prayer in the chapel as well as in homes. Groups for young people provide Christian teaching as well as guidance for living.

From time to time we hold special events in the Chapel, such as child dedications, baptisms and funeral services.

Structure

Trustees This CIO was established on 1[st] July 2014 and continues with 4 trustees. Leaders There is n0rmally a team of 3 unpaid leaders who oversee the main spiritual thrust of the chapel. However in September 2021 one leader did not wish to continue and he has subsequently been replaced.

Youth worker A children’s worker has been employed on a part time basis to provide guidance, and a teaching programme, for the younger folk. Working from home, our Youth worker continued after 23 March 2020 to provide activities for the youth within government guidelines so she was not placed on furlough. However during the period covered by this report she married, left the area and therefore she left her employment with Great Parks Chapel and to date has not been replaced.

Cleaner The trust also uses the services of one of our members to keep the chapel clean and tidy. Members Those who attend Great Parks Chapel are either invited or request to become members and the number of members now stands at 45.

Volunteers Great Parks Chapel is most fortunate that there is a hardworking, loyal team of volunteers: musicians, caterers and helpers in all our services and activities.

Outreach and Mission

To interest the community in our activities and our faith, from time to time we would organise a Christianity Explored course held in the chapel. However this was not possible during this year.

We also have a team of volunteers who have previously manned a table at a local car boot sale on one Sunday each summer month to raise the profile of Great Parks Chapel and our beliefs. Each week teams would visit local primary schools to read Bible stories to children under the organisation Open the Book. During each month, as restrictions would allow, a number of church volunteers meet local residents at their doors or shoppers in Paignton town to introduce folk to Great Parks Chapel, its activities and to share our beliefs.

Legal requirements

The trustees are aware of their legal obligations and the appropriate insurances and policies are in place. These include

Food handling certification for those leading the catering teams

As required in our Child Protection policy an Advocate has been appointed.

Finances

The end of the financial year for Great Park Chapel is the 31[st] March.

The chapel derives its income from regular offerings, donations and Gift Aid. As the church premises have been closed due to the pandemic church offerings by means of cash were much reduced but many of our congregation continued to give by other means.

Each month the chapel makes a gift to one of the Christian workers or organisations which we support. This offering is known as our Window on the World (WOW).

The records and accounts are maintained by a non-paid treasurer and are subjected to an independent examination.

These funds are used to maintain the chapel premises, to cover the cost of our activities and to provide help when, and in whatever manner, the trustees decide. Over the past 12 months we have supported, amongst others

In the UK A number of individual Christian workers An organisation that works with UK armed forces Renovation and extension projects at a campsite we have used for many years Workers in local schools

Worldwide Workers who were based in Asia and involved with disabled and disadvantaged youth

Serious Incidents

This charity has not been involved in any serious incidents in this period.
