Great Parks Chapel Management Trust A Charitable Incorporated Organisation Charity number 1156314

Trustees Annual Report to 31[st] March 2021

Purpose

The purpose of the Great Parks Chapel Management Trust is to oversee the activities at Great Parks Chapel and to ensure they are in keeping with the Objects of this trust.

Objects

The Objects of this trust are for the benefit of the public and regard has been given to the Charity Commission's guidance on public benefit. The Objects include:

  1. to advance the Christian faith

  2. to relieve sickness, financial hardship and promote good health with funds, goods and services in the UK or anywhere in the world as the trustees think fit and

  3. to advance education where, and as, the trustees think fit.

Achievements and Performance

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic a national lockdown was enforced from 23 March 2020, just a few days before the start of the year covered by this report.

The church premises were completely closed down and we introduced the use of Zoom for some of our services and other activities. Throughout the 12 months under review government guidance for church activities has been followed.

Although the following is a description of our activities in previous years , what we are able or decide to do in the future will be influenced by government advice and our circumstances at that time.

However the Purpose and Objects of this charity will remain unchanged. Great Parks Chapel has offered a wide range of services each week with some special events during the course of a ‘normal’ year. We trust that our community, young and older, has found these interesting, helpful and spiritually uplifting. As well as Easter, Harvest and Christmas services there were regular times of prayer in the chapel as well as in homes. Groups for young people provide Christian teaching as well as guidance for living.

In previous years we have held a number of special events in the Chapel, such as child dedications and baptisms.

Structure

Trustees This CIO was established on 1[st] July 2014 with 4 named trustees, one of whom resigned in February 2018. A replacement trustee has been appointed in December 2018.

Leaders There is a team of 3 leaders who oversee the main spiritual thrust of the chapel who usually meet each month.

Youth worker A children’s worker has been employed on a part time basis to provide guidance, and a teaching programme, for the younger folk. Working from home, our Youth worker continued after 23 March 2020 to provide activities for the youth within government guidelines so she was not placed on furlough and in September 2020 she left her employment with Great Parks Chapel.

Cleaner The trust also uses the services of a lady to keep the chapel clean and tidy and she was furloughed shortly after 23 March 2020.

Members Those who attend Great Parks Chapel are either invited or request to become members and the number of members now stands at 45.

Volunteers Great Parks Chapel is most fortunate that there is a hardworking, loyal team of volunteers: musicians, caterers, helpers in all our services and activities. However few of them were called upon to provide any meaningful support.

Outreach and Mission

To interest the community in our activities and our faith, from time to time we would organise a Christianity Explored course held in the chapel. However this was not possible during the year in hand so we started this course in February 2021 online.

We also have a team of volunteers who would man a table at a local car boot sale on one Sunday each summer month to raise the profile of Great Parks Chapel and our beliefs. Each week teams would visit local primary schools to read Bible stories to children under the organisation Open the Book.

Legal requirements

The trustees are aware of their legal obligations and the appropriate insurances and policies are in place. These include

Food handling certification for those leading the catering teams

Our Child Protection policy calls for an Advocate to be appointed. This has been done and their names and contact details are displayed on the notice boards inside the chapel. During 2018 the trust introduced a General Data Protection Regulation privacy policy as required by legislation.

Finances

The end of the financial year for Great Park Chapel is the 31[st] March.

The chapel derives its income from regular offerings, donations and Gift Aid. As the church premises has been closed due to the pandemic church offerings by means of cash were much reduced but many of our congregation continued to give by other means.

Previously the offering received on one Sunday each month (usually the first Sunday) was for the benefit of one of the Christian workers or organisations, which we support. This offering was known as our Window on the World (WOW).

The records and accounts are maintained by a non-paid treasurer and are subjected to an independent examination.

These funds are used to maintain the chapel premises, to cover the cost of our activities and to provide help when, and in whatever manner, the trustees decide. Over the past 12 months we have supported, amongst others

In the UK A number of individual Christian workers An organisation that works with UK armed forces Renovation and extension projects at a campsite we have used for many years Workers in local schools

Worldwide Workers who were based in Asia and involved with disabled and disadvantaged youth
