Chairman’s report - year ending August 2025

Radlett & District U3A is a Registered Charity No 1156262 and has now been running for thirteen years.

It seems a very long time since many of us queued up at Vision Hall to join this organisation which was new to Radlett. Many of us did not know what it was about but we are still here and hopefully it has enriched our lives and we have made really good friendships.

We have had a successful year with the Committee being unchanged from the year before, apart from the position of Group co-ordinator. It seems quite difficult to encourage people to join us. However we all work very well together and support each other and we have had a fruitful year. This also applies to your group leaders, who do a fantastic job of creating interesting meetings.

During the time since lockdown our membership has fluctuated from 850 pre covid to about 690 but it is now going up again to the present level of 730. We are still only taking members within the postcode limits that have been set and this does sometimes cause people to be disappointed, for which we are sorry.

We had a year full of great outings, theatre trips, stately homes and gardens, interesting house talks, quiz and Christmas lunch, tea for our group leaders, with them all hopefully feeling very well supported and valued. We made coffee mornings for our new members as a welcoming gesture. We organised another holiday, this time to Norfolk and it worked out well and hopefully is the first of many future excursions, with the possibility of going further afield. Our monthly meetings, although not quite as well attended as they used to be and we would like them to be, had some really good speakers and it would be great if we could encourage more members to attend. The meetings are always very sociable as well as informative and entertaining and some valuable friendships have been formed. It is often difficult to encourage members to sit down after coffee break as there is so much chat.

I feel very honoured to still be Chairman and will continue to do my best to encourage, support and help our members to make our u3a a very special place.
