Ver Colne Valley U3A 2024/25 AGM Committee Report
Dear members,
It only seems that it was yesterday that we had our previous AGM, which proves to us all that we are enjoying what our U3A has to offer.
The year started with a very successful Groups Fair to Celebrate the VCV’s 15[th] Anniversary and we had our annual 60s/70s dance and as always it was a great success, to close off the year we had our Christmas Party where we were entertained by Singing for Fun, our Ukulele Band and a quiz which were well received.
There were various theatre visits “Sister Act”, “Calander Girls”, “Fiddle on the Roof”, “White Christmas”. “Starlight Express”, “The Lion King” and “Fawlty Towers”. Day visits included the Royal Opera House, a River Cruise on the Stort & Lee Valley canal, ABBA Chique on a boat on the Thames, a visit to Denbies Vinyard, the Milestones Living History Museum and finally Albertropollis.
Throughout the year all of our groups were enjoying their activities, be it the walking groups, being very active with various sports or just sitting down and playing games, plus all the other interest groups too many to mention or just drinking tea/coffee and most of all learning something different within your group. We must not forget the very interesting speakers we have every month and the social success of our meetings.
As always we encourage any members with a particular talent, who wish to share it with other members. to please see our Groups coordinator.
Apart from your monthly group meetings, we look forward to various Theatre trips and day events and activities.
We, as your committee, strive to do the best for the VCV and yourselves and that is why we meet once a month to make sure that things run smoothly and to keep up with any new requirements. Please feel free to approach any committee member if you have any concerns or any ideas you think that the VCV may benefit from. Better still attend a Committee Meeting to see how we operate.
On behalf of the committee and myself, keep well, healthy and enjoy what the VCV has to offer.
Nick Photi and the Committee
VCV Treasurer’s Report and Accounts for 2024/25
The General Account is presented in a format that records income and expenditure relating to the financial year. As is customary, the corresponding figures for the previous year are also shown, to provide a useful year-on-year comparison. Some of the key differences are due to the following:
-
The Asset Purchase figure for 2024/25 includes the replacement of both electronic and catering equipment used for General Meetings (GMs) and party events at GWP
-
Due to late invoicing from GWP, the hall hire for 2023/24 covered a period of 15 months, whereas the 2024/25 figure was reduced by the cancellation of the Jan 2025 GM (GWP power failure).
-
Speaker fees were less in 2024/25, partly due to the choice of speakers and also the cancelled GM
-
The VCV-Funded Events figure for 2023/24 included the celebration of VCV’s 15[th] anniversary.
The end of year Events Account balance of £5,012.38 includes the sale of tickets for events in the following year, for which some/all of the costs had yet to be incurred. Allowing for this, the true balance is approximately £93 less, at around £4,919. This serves as a float for any costs that may have to be incurred prior to the sale of tickets to members, in the coming year. The income for events that took place during the year was £35,895. Once costs are deducted, there was a surplus of £779.67 (2.2%). The guidelines for pricing events has been amended recently, by the committee, with the aim of coming closer to breaking even.

| Notes: The General account covers the day to day operations of VCV and is funded by membership subscriptions. It is split between current and deposit accounts, at the bank. The Events account is concerned with events and trips that are funded from payments made by the members participating in those events/trips. Both the above accounts are subject to examination by the person appointed at the previous AGM. Each interest group that involves funding from its members, maintains its own set of accounts. Examination of these accounts is a matter for each group. The figures above are a consolidation of those provided by each group. No monies have been transferred between any of the above accounts in 2024/25 |

| Receipts adjustment for Charity Commission return Pre-paid subscriptions Net adjustment 6,622.00 +461.92 6,160.08 |
The Income figures above include all subscriptions that relate to the year shown, even though they may have been received in the previous year. They also exclude any pre-paid subscriptions that are for the following year. This is so members can see exactly how their subscriptions for the year have been spent. The Charity Commission return is made in a ‘Payments and Receipts’ form. This means that the figures are determined by the year in which the transactions occur, rather than the year to which they relate. The figures reported to the CC must therefore, be adjusted accordingly. |
