Management and Runnlng of Charlty
Management of the tharity operatK)ns is by functional teams of trained
volunteers with an individual tnjslee providing oversighL Teams are non-
hierarchical but have ulb'mate accountability to the Board of trustees.
Many volunteers are involwj in teams. (often in more than one team).
teamwork is very muth part of the fabric of SSCBB and absolutely key to
ortgoing surLess.
All members are volunteers and give their tirne freely receiving no
remuneration or other benefil frorn the charity.
Operattonal meelings, to which all members are inviled. are held normally
monthly and are led by Area Leaders across the three ￿Unb.es of
Shro
shire, Staffordshire and Cheshire.

SSCBB is a member of the Nationwide Association of Blood Bikes
and works alongside neighbouring blood bike groups to provide.

Services are set up locally with rthv8nt hospital trusts or related
organisati￿$ and d￿mented through servi￿ Level Agreements ISLA).
Regular reviews a￿ held with NHS management to ensure SeN1￿ are
maintained within the SLA and amendm8nts or Dew services are fonnally
agreed.
SSCBB are FKivileged to have the continuing supwjrt and patronage of
Anna Tumer JP. Lord-LTreutenant of Shn)pshire and lan Dudson CBE KStJ
Lord Lieutenant of Staffordshire.

The amount and type of rrsk that the charity is williThJ to take to meet its
objectives is determined and ￿mItored by the Trustees.
Tnjstees take a risk-based approach to Unde￿1￿ decision-making al￿ut
the kind of opkx)rtunilies taken by the charity as well as how il operates
and interacts with the pu￿1¢.
The charity has a formal safeguarding pjlicy and code of conduct which

chafity are expeded to behave.

Our Objective as set out in the Constitution Is:
To relieve sickness and to preserve the heatth of the patienL% primarily,
but not exdusively, in the Shropshire and Slaffordshire area. by providing
free transport serwces of urgentty required blood products, human
samples. breast milk. patient notes and medical equipment. not nomially
provided by the slatutory authorities or NHS Trusts. that would normally
be paid for by the said Tfusis, alknving essential funds to be diverted
back into patient care..

and in this way the charity adds incremental value to the NHS and

In 2023 over 6,IX)O free of charge deliveries were made by our volunteer
riders and controllers fr(xn & to Ihe many hosptlals and clinics we serve
across the three counties. These were accomplished using the charity
fleet of 17 specially adapted nN)torcydes entailing over 3(KI,000 miles
being Iravdled saviw the NHS a substantial sum in urgent transport
costs.

objective of se￿ring donations, raising awareness of our activities and
encouraging new membership.

Achievements and performance
In 2023 SSCBB tcK)k over 66￿ calls from our hospitals for free of charge
deliveries bringng our total to al￿￿st 43.5(K) since the charity formed in
2014. The charity's 17 bikes travelled over 300,tth miles during the
year.

Fundraising remained strong and the charity was able to retain a healthy
reserve to ensure C￿tinUed Servi￿ and future investment. We are
especially grateful to loyal supp)rters who continued to contribute in 2023
a￿1 to all new donors who have tjeen inspired by the service we wovide.
F￿et maintenance was kept to a hKJh standard and bikes were reFlaced
with new ones on a wular basi5 to keep the fieet (xrrent.
The continued dedi￿11￿ and ex￿lIent teamwork of our volunteers
ensured our 24-hour cover remained, as well a5 all the vital background
services, and we continued to pul a high level of effort into maintaining
en9ageTnent with customers and supporters.
