Bwlchgwyn Village Hall Association ( BVHA )
Annual General Meeting 26[th] May 2022
First welcome and thank you to everyone for coming and joining us.
When the council decided they could no longer support Village halls, the BVHA was formed by some residents who saw the building we are in now as something that was worth saving. They formed a Charitable incorporated organisation called the Bwlchgwyn Village hall association.
Up to now there is a yearly service level agreement from the Wrexham council, where we look after and maintain the building on a rent free basis. The issue with fields in trust is still in hand and we hope that our new councillor Jerry Wellens will keep fighting on our behalf.
In the meantime, it’s the role of the BVHA to keep the building in a good order, clean tidy etc and promote to groups and prove that it is a valued resource.
I want to break away from tradition here and make a special tribute to someone who spent so much time and effort looking after the hall. The village hall and the community it stands in has a lot to thank Wyn Blaze for his hard work and determination over the years. From maintenance to plans for a new kitchen. Thank you, Thank you, you are greatly missed and we hope that we can continue a strong organisation at the BVHA.
Can we look at the minutes for last years AGM and check that we approve them. In favour, seconded. Now we can move on.
The current Committee and Treasures are:
Myself as Chair and Trustee
John Roberts as Treasurer and Trustee
Margaret Roberts as Secretary and Trustee
Sarah Andrews as Booking Secretary and Trustee
Sian Dent Trustee
Pam Blaze Trustee
Money has started to come in from the Brymbo community council and we have received our first cheque. Thank you to the determination of our community councillors who have pressed for this. We are currently pulling together updated quotes for a new kitchen and hope that we can get started with that soon, dedicating the kitchen in Wyn’s memory, the Wyn Blaze Kitchen.
We are also looking at replacing all the heaters to more modern and efficient ones.
Can I now pass you over to John Roberts for the Treasurers report.
The future of the hall:
Over the last twelve months unfortunately we have lost the mothers and toddler group after 30 plus years, due to work commitments. It’s a very hard things to support, I know I did it for 6 years. On the plus side the storage can be used by scouts now and that is going to save them about £100 per month in storage fees, which is extra funds for the group.
The hall is advertising in the bulletin and on Facebook as for hire for events and we hope that will drum up some interest for parties and maybe some frequent users.
Recently the Kidderminster classic car club visited and had refreshments provided by the WI
The WI are planning their strawberry tea which we are all looking forward to.
There will be a Jubilee event a week on Sunday, which is a free community event, the local co-op have given £30 and Spar £80 towards refreshments and prizes for the raffle and quiz. We hope this will be a lovely community event and will be well supported. The BVHA is planning on offering free teas and coffees but will take donations if people wish to donate towards the hall, also running a raffle to raise some funds.
Part of the agm is for all the committee members to resign their roles and vote in new members and trustees. I will ask my fellow committee members to resign and re-stand if applicable.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the regular users, Brymbo community councillors and Wrexham County borough council for granting the service level agreement the BVHA committee, current and past who have offered great support and advise.
