The Trust is a charitable association and operates under a constitution. ## **Registered office** Calverleigh Court Calverleigh Tiverton Devon EX16 8BB ## **Trustees** The trustees, who served throughout the year 2020 and who carry the additional responsibilities noted, are: William Blacker (Chairman) Thierry Kelaart (Secretary) William Heathcoat Amory (Treasurer) The Trustees must number a minimum of three. The power of appointment of trustees lies with the Trustees from time to time. ## **Objectives and Activities** The Trust operates by expending its income on projects in Romania for the preservation of vernacular architecture. The management of the projects is largely under the direction of The Association Monumentum, a Romanian body led by the conservation architect Eugen Vaida. The work undertaken is monitored by William Blacker. The administration costs of the Trust are low. William Blacker undertakes his travel to and in Romania largely at his own expense. The Trustees are unpaid. The grants made by ARTTA to Association Monumentum in the year have funded the background work of spreading awareness of the deterioration in the historic fabric and the need for and merit in its restoration. In everything we do we are trying to encourage traditional craftsmanship and the production of traditional materials, providing training and work for local people. Of particular note, we have continued to support Monumentum in their “Ambulance for Monuments” project which acts as a way for local volunteers to help protect and repair high profile cultural monuments. In this and many other ways, Monumentum acts as a link between funders, project sponsors and leaders of particular projects. The Trust itself continues to try to encourage other organisations to engage directly with Association Monumentum and with conservation projects in Romania, and has been involved in the education of villagers and architectural students in all aspects of its conservation work. 2. ## ANGLO ROMANIAN TRUST FOR TRADITIONAL ARCHITECTURE Registered charity number 1156000 ## TRUSTEES’ REPORT (CONTINUED) For the year ended 31 December 2020 ## **Achievement and Performance** The Anglo-Romanian Trust for Traditional Architecture (ARTTA) has made huge progress this year, working together with the Prince’s Foundation Romania (PFR), the Monumentum Association and the Villa Abbatis Association. We are managing to attract significant funds from within Romania. Since April 2020, despite the Pandemic work has continued at an impressive pace. The Ambulance for Historic Buildings has continued to work, grow and to attract attention, carrying out 16 interventions in 7 different regions of Romania. There are now 7 different regional Ambulances, four of which were set up in 2020 In May 2020 the Ambulance won the top Europa Nostra Prize for Education, Training and Raising Cultural Awareness, and then in October was voted, by a long margin, as the best overall Europa Nostra project for 2020. This recognition has been a huge help in raising awareness of our activities in Romania and around Europe. The Summer Schools for Architecture have been continuing despite the pandemic. Overall eleven separate schools were financed together by our donors and the Romanian Order of Architects. The Romanian Map of Craftsmen has also continued to grow. The Pattern Book on Saxon Architecture in Transylvania by the architect Jan Hulsemann for which we received a grant of £10,000 (which was sent directly to Monumentum) is now being printed and will be available for use and sale very soon. The profits from the sale will be returned to our conservation work. The Cultural Landscape Project allowed us to research the adverse effects of Industrial Agriculture in Southern Transylvania, to make a short video, and to take many photographs to show how agri-business is changing the countryside. These photographs have been of immense use in raising awareness of the problems. ## **Fund raising** The Trust’s activities are financed by the grants and donations received from supporters. The Trustees are immensely grateful for the continuing support they have received in the year. ## **Financial position** The Receipts and Payments account attached shows the financial activity in the year. The Trust currently has no commitments which require the maintenance of significant reserves and the Trustees therefore merely have a policy of maintaining a buffer of cash in order to smooth the funding of work in Romania. Approved by the Trustees on 28 October 2021 William Heathcoat Amory Trustee 4. ## ANGLO ROMANIAN TRUST FOR TRADITIONAL ARCHITECTURE Registered charity number 1156000 INDEPENDENT EXAMINER'S REPORT For the year ended 31 December 2020 I report on the accounts of the Trust for the year ended 31 December 2020, which are set out on page 5. ## **Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner** The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011 (the 2011 Act) and that an independent examination is needed. It is my responsibility to: - examine the accounts under section 145 of the 2011 Act; - to follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charity - Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act; and - to state whether particular matters have come to my attention. ## **Basis of independent examiner’s report** My examination was carried out in accordance with the general Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair view’ and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below. ## **Independent examiner’s statement** In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention: (1) which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements: - to keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the 2011 Act; - and - to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply ωιτη τηε αχχουντινγ - requirements of the 2011 Act have not been met; or (2) to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
