Annual Report for 2020 and Annual General Meeting 12 October 2021

(The meeting was held live in Jesmond Library and via Zoom)

Present in person

Attendees via Zoom

Cllr T. Pretswell: Keep Jesmond Clean/NCC D. Walton: Jesmond WI

Despite continued difficulties over the year relating to Covid 19, Dave noted that community groups had remained intact and had connected with others in the community by sharing news of activities through emailed circulations by JCF. Jesmond Community Festival 2021 was produced with a programme comprising members’ events virtually - or in person, where possible -and the annual Jesmond Photographic competition had gone ahead. Thanks were made to Chris Clarke for his organisation of both.

  1. Treasurer’s report: Chris Clarke

  2. Chris confirmed that due to the low costs associated with managing Jesmond Community Forum and the style in which Jesmond Community Festival needed to be produced this year, JCF is in a highly solvent position with current funds of £4,300, mainly accrued from previous years. It is likely, however, that applications will need to be made for Ward Grants in respect of a traditional Festival next year. Thanks were made to Geoffrey Carter for verifying the accounts.

6. Election of Trustees

Current Trustees, Chris Clarke, Dave Cross, Marjorie Dodds, Felicity Mendelson, David Houpt, Sandra Hinds and Bobbie Harding had confirmed they were willing to continue. In accordance with the terms of the Constitution, Felicity and David (in his absence) stood down and were re-elected unanimously.

Expressions of interest from others to become Trustees had been invited, but no

one had come forward or been nominated.

The formal element of the meeting was followed by presentations from 3 local

‘Widening Participation: being relevant to a younger, more diverse Jesmond’.

Treasurer’s Report to the Annual Meeting of

Jesmond Community Forum, October 2021

Attached to this report is a summary of our formal financial accounts for 2020. The accounts were independently examined by Mr Geoffrey Carter.

This is now largely of historic interest, as so much has changed since the end of 2020.

The 2020 Festival was cancelled, after some expenditure had been incurred, but fortunately all the organisations who had pledged money towards the 2020 festival allowed their contributions to be carried over until 2021. In addition, the reserves previously built up over a number of years helped carry us through the financial problems of the pandemic.

Although strictly speaking not part of the year reported on here, it can be said that we managed to hold a 2021 festival, with many online events, well within the finances available.
