Chairmans report on behalf of the Trustees

Whilst the last couple of years have been extremely challenging, dominated by the global pandemic this financial year has seen the charity reset, review all aspects of our operation and make tough decisions that will ultimately support the NHS. Resetting our operation will see the charity increase the number of volunteers, refresh and increase the fleet of vehicles and financially secure the charity for the future.

With the NHS seeing significant back logs for appointments and waiting lists for operations at an alltime high, Nottinghamshire Blood Bikes has been overwhelmed by the amount of work the NHS has approached Nottinghamshire Blood Bikes to support with.

To allow the charity to grow and accept this unprecedented amount of work for the NHS, we have reviewed our fleet of vehicles. We work closely with Inchcape Toyota and Toyota UK and have ordered three new cars, two to replace existing fleet and one to increase the fleet by one vehicle. This will minimise maintenance costs, ensure our reliable service continues and enable us to increase our workload making further savings to the NHS. All vehicles will enter the fleet in the next financial year.

To enable the charity to make these significant purchases, Nottinghamshire Blood Bikes has been building partnerships with local businesses and working with trust funds to source suitable funding that will materialise in the next financial year. We have also worked closely with Community and Voluntary Services across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire to source new members to increase our volunteer base.

The Riders and Drivers for Nottinghamshire Blood Bikes continue to amaze me. They are an amazing team of people who turn out come rain or shine to ensure people they have never met receive the best possible care from the NHS. Each and every one should be immensely proud of their contributions, and, on behalf of the trustees, I would like to thank them for their continued support.

We must not forget the controllers and fundraisers either. Our controllers really are the unseen heroes and without them our charity would not be able to operate. Our fundraisers really have worked their magic this year, raising around £30,000 through various events and talks. Again, a huge thankyou from myself and the Trustees.

Fuel continues to be our largest expense and we need to thank BP who have continued to provide fuel at a reduced cost to Blood Groups across the country. This has been a considerable saving to Charities including Nottinghamshire Blood Bikes

All of the above takes an immense amount of time and the committee deserve great praise for their dedication over the last 12 months.

Finally, thank you to all the members, supporters and sponsors who continue to support and contribute to our success.

James Grundey Chairman
