SWEP, which is run by St. Mungo’s for the BCP Council, is held in Poole at the Genesis Centre. We offer 12 beds and take dogs.
Bournemouth and Poole College’s Space Youth Project is using the building during school holidays for a weekly evening drop-in session.

encouragement to clients who are struggling with addictions. We work with those who might choose to give up their housing because of their isolation and loneliness by encouraging social participation and developing their living skills Engaging the Local Community:We offer opportunities to groups, businesses, and individuals to volunteer, support and fundraise. In order to inform, inspire and raise awareness in local businesses, schools, community groups, and churches, R2R volunteers give presentations and talks about the charity’s vision and mission. This year we increased Tracy Hayman’s hours to include community outreach work. Advocacy: We monitor the current situation for homeless and vulnerably housed people in Poole and act as an advocate for them with police, local government, and services. Life Skills and Wellbeing:Since 2023 we have offered The Pillar Programme, for three verified rough sleepers who are ready for some responsibility. The project provides a structured volunteer placement at the Genesis Centre for 12 weeks. |

| Additional Information |
Routes to Roots (Poole) CIO is a charity based on Christian principles which seeks to serve the needs of rough sleepers and vulnerable housed of all faiths and none. Its statement of faith and ethos is: “Routes to Roots is an organisation whose roots are firmly based in the Christian faith. Our inspiration comes from the teachings of Jesus of Nazareth, as recorded in the Bible. We champion the cause of the homeless and the vulnerably housed in Poole. We show them the love of God for all people, not through preaching but through our actions. We also open the eyes of all those who are blind to the needs of the homeless and vulnerably housed in our town. We see Christ in the face of all who seek our help and support. We believe all human beings are made in the image of God and as such should be treated with dignity and self worth by: • Hearing, and helping to give a voice to the homeless and vulnerably housed people in Poole • Standing with them and not above them • Encouraging participation and engagement rather than dependency • Respecting difference and not expecting or demanding conformity” This statement is published on the charity’s website and made available to all members,staff,volunteers and Trustees. SECTION D: Achievements and Performance
| Main Achievements |
Patron The Venerable Karen Gorham, Bishop of Sherborne has continued to actively support Routes to Roots. Staffing Ben Sargent continued as the Genesis Centre Manager. Tracy Hayman continued to work part-time as the Charity Administrator and was promoted during the year to include work on Community Development. Chrissy John-Bennetts started in April 2024 as the part-time Projects Leader. Chrissy left Routes to Routes in November. We appointed Stephen O’Sullivan, who will begin in May 2025. We continued to contract out our bookkeeping to Ann Mace and website management to Conical Sphere. We have agreed to appoint Lisa Francis is our CIO Secretary, working ad-hoc hours. Lisa began in April 2025. We also appointed Abi Hadley-Clift as our HR Consultant on a fixed hour contract, to begin in early May 2025. More than fifty volunteers provided our services at the Genesis Centre. Drop-Ins 2024/ 2025 has seen us increase our opening hours: we are now providing breakfasts Monday to Friday from 10:00 am to 11:00 am for those that are sleeping outside. This was particularly helpful during the winter months but is something we have decided to continue with all year round. As ever when supporting a smaller, targeted group, the sessions not only allows individuals easier access to laundry facilities and showers but also provides a quieter environment to utilise the support of outreach teams and support. In addition to the St Mungos outreach team, this year we have been joined consistently by BCP council Housing Options Officer. This joined up work as has resulted in us seeing an increased number of our service user accommodated in temporary accommodation. Of those that have been allocated accommodation, we have been able to utilise a ringfenced donation toprovide individuals with some of |

the essentials required to start a home. This has included furniture, white goods and items such as bedding and curtains. Throughout the year we have been able to provide access to healthcare at the Genesis Centre, with Livewell Dorset providing NHS Health checks, HEP C Trust providing BBV tests, The Healthbus and NHS provided FLU and Covid jabs. We were also able to organise two sessions with Specsavers that enabled a number of our service users the opportunity to have free eye tests and receive free prescription glasses. This year we have also been able to start providing valuable access to a GP. We are joined by Dr Kirk from the Cranborne practice who attends weekly. We continue to be joined by a number of businesses providing ‘takeover’ lunches, including our friends at Bagette & Co and Wates. Our essential drop in volunteers have received training delivered by We Are With You on understanding addiction as well as the lifesaving use of Naloxone. We also became the first recognised Victim Friendly Organisation in Dorset following a training session delivered by Victim Support. And, we had a collaborative session with both volunteers and service users on basic food hygiene. We have been able to continue to offer the building for free to local churches to offer food during weekend evenings and have increased our Sunday lunch offer to 3 Sundays a month with the help of the congregations of Lytchett and Upton Church as well as St Marys Catholic church which is now delivering their offer 2 Sundays in the month. This Christmas we were again able to ensure approx. 30 people received a lunch and gift on Christmas day thanks again to our incredible volunteers. Amos House Supported Accommodation We entered the tenth year of this project, which is in partnership with Green Pastures Housing. During Covid, many rough sleepers were housed and although more people have found themselves on the streets, most of them were not ready to move into the kind of supported accommodation that we offer at Amos House. They need support that responds to their multiple needs, rather than a single need. In Summer 2022, we changed our focus at Amos House to housing a homeless family. We continue to let the flat to a homeless family of five people, who moved in during September 2022. The three children are attending local schools and the father is working. Support is provided by an external agency, ICN. We extended their lease for a third year and are now working to move them into private rented accommodation with the support of ICN.

Over the summer 2025, the Trustees will decide on the next chapter for Amos House, which could be a return to the original type of project, depending in part on recent changes in BCP Housing options. Partnerships Having the Genesis Centre has allowed us to invite all the partners who work with our client group to meet with them at our drop ins or at other times. We do not charge them to use the building. During the year, we worked with: 1. St. Mungos 2. We Are With You Drug & Alcohol Team 3. We Are With You Needle Exchange 4. BCP Housing Options 5. NHS Community Mental Health Team 6. NHS Community Nursing 7. Shelter 8. Victim Support 9. SPACE 10. STARS 11. The Police 12. The Health Bus 13. GP Visits onsite 14. Live well Dorset 15. | • Replaced the gates with ones that fit better (replaced by the manufacturer) • Installed lighting and electrical sockets in the Activities Hall • Plastered and painted the Activities Hall • Installed floor covering in the Activities Hall We are very pleased to report that we have now completed fundraising for final part of the planned renovations. By the end of the summer, we hope to complete the following: • Create the Clothing Store • Install blinds/curtains in the Activities Hall • Repointing the Northwest and Northeast facing aspects of the exterior • Replacing the guttering and downpipes with deep flow guttering and downpipes on the Northwest and Northeast facing aspects of the building • Replace the Roof on the main part of the building (over the Main Hall) • Replace the ceiling tiles that have been damaged by the roof leaking. Business Plan We rewrote our business plan in 2025, which now covers 2025-28. Charity Ambassadors Trustees agreed to create a new role of Charity Ambassador, which is designed to promote the charity. The role includes: • Ambassadors will represent the charity in daily life and as required by the charity until they resign as an Ambassador. • Ambassadors will receive and read Board Minutes and other important updates, but are not required to attend Board Meetings. • Ambassadors will make themselves available for consultation by current Board members when needed. • Ambassadors will include those who have held the role of Chair of Trustees and who also agree to be Ambassadors of the charity. • Trustees may appoint others as Ambassadors. • Ambassadors names will be noted on a plaque displayed by the charity. • Appointment will be part of the AGM agenda, as needed. |

SECTION E: Financial Review
| Policy on Reserves |
We increased our Reserves Policy to £50,000. We hope to increase the Reserves Policy to £60,000 in 2025-26, which will represent nearly six months of reserves. |

|---|---|---|
| Financial Review | Financial Review 2023-24 2024-25 was our sixth and final year of fundraising for the building renovation work by the end of April 2025, we have raised enough to complete the planned work. The main highlights are as follows: Total income was £193,702 in 2024-25, which was more than the previous year, but which reflected our needs for running the Genesis Centre and further renovation work. - Our Grant Income (£94,750) came from: Albert Hunt Trust Alice Ellen Cooper Dean Foundation AFC Bournemouth Community Fund Arnold Clark Community Fund B&Q Foundation Brewers Foundation Hall & Woodhouse Community Chest Help the Homeless Laing Family Trusts Richard & Jo Kennedy Ringwood & Ellingham Show Southall Trust St. Aldhelm’s Chapel Trust Stonebarrow Trust Valentine Charitable Trust - Overall payments were less than in the previous year, at £165,290 in 2024-25. This reflects our savings for the larger building projects this year. Our General Fundraising for the Genesis Centre from April 2024 to March 2025 was successful and reflects our broad support from the community. It included: - Individual regular monthly or annual donations - One-off donations by individuals - Memberships - Churches - Local Volunteer and Social Groups - Corporate Donors - Schools - HMRC Tax Reclaim - Stewardship and Charitable Payroll Giving |

Amos House income in 2024-25 was £11,700. Amos House payments totalled £12,680, a difference of £12,990 which is largely made up of improvements to the flat and our monthly fees. We are content with this level of spend to support a homeless family. Financially, we have been in a solid position in 2024-25, thanks to our amazing supporters and also grants we have received. Our fundraising focus will now turn to maintaining and potentially increasing the services we offer.
Outlook 2023-24
Our third year at the Genesis Centre has been a success and we are grateful that we no longer have to fundraise to complete the building renovation work. 2025 will be a transition year, as we change the Chair of Trustees at the AGM. Now in its 23[rd] year, with the incredible assets of the Genesis Centre and Amos House, the charity is entering a new phase of professionalism.
We are strengthened by the level of local support shown for our work and are confident in the future.

Statement of Trustees’ Responsibilities
The Trustees are responsible for preparing the financial statements in accordance with the United Kingdom Accounting Standards (United Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Practice) and applicable law and regulations
The law applicable to charities requires the trustees to prepare financial statements for each financial year which gives a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the charity and of the incoming resources and application of resources of the charity for that period. In preparing these financial statements, the trustees are required to:
-
Select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistently;
-
Observe the methods and principals in the Charities SORP;
-
Make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent;
-
State whether applicable accounting standards have been followed, subject to any material departures disclosed and explained in the financial statements; and
-
Prepare the financial statements on the going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume that the charity will continue in business.
The trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records that disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the charity and enable them to ensure that the financial statements comply with the Charities Act 2011, the applicable Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations, and the provisions of the reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities
Reserves
The Reserves set at £50,000, being six months of the Genesis Centre's annual costs, and a f:5,000 reserve for Amos House.

Independent Exananer’s Report to the trustees of Routes to Roots (Poole) CIO
I report on the accounts of Routes to Roots (Poole) CIO for the year ended 31st March 2025, which are set out on pages 4 - 9
Respective responsibilities of the trustees and examiner
The kustee's are responsible for the preparation of the accounts- The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not requIred for his yen under section 1 M(2) of the Charities Act 2011 (the Charities 2011 Act) and that an independent examination is needed
It is my responsibility to :
-
examine the accounts under secaon 145 of the 2011 Charities Act
-
to follow the procedures laid down in the general directions given by the Charity Commission (under section 145(5)(b) of the Charities Act and
-
to state whether particular matters have come to my attention
Basis of Independent Examiner's Statement
My examination was carried out in accordance with general directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and
a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from the trustees concerning such matters, The procedures under%ken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a 'aue and fair' view and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.
Independent Examiner’s Statement
In connection with my examination, no material matters have come to my attention gives rue cause to believe that in any material respect;
-
e the accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 10 of the Charities Act; or
-
e the accounts did not accord with the accounting records: or
-
e the accounts did not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a 'true and fair’ view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examrnatron.
I have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
