2021 has beèn anolher chall8ryJing ￿T. As in 2020. we sLirted off well, wilh a heatthy bank balance
and Gonfidentty expecting to resume our full programme of activrb'es. bul the alaming iFKrease in
Covid infeclFons once more curtailed our plans. We caut*Jusly re-opened in the summ&r as s￿n a8 we
were legal￿ able to do so, and have since seen a gradual resumplion of groups arKl-aCtiv￿'es,
supported of course by folknving govemment guidelines on social distancing, string8nt deaning and
disinfecting routines, lols of h8nd San￿'Se[S and the use of masks indoors. Somè groups - like the
Dunston Sifver Band- were onty abl8 to resume much later in the year. av)d its cb88r that many
groups have ended 2021 18ss populated Ihan in pr6-Covid years. However, we were delighted to be
able to hold ojr usual Winter Fair and. although foot traffic was noticeab￿ down on wovious years,
managed lo r818e just over £800. thanks to brdl suppc¥ters in our communtty.

our M￿￿￿)Ved Communty Contre support8r8. Ge￿90 Thompson. George h9$ been a sta￿art
Supporter lor many. many years. running the BovAing Club. the Lunch Club. organising Ou￿ng6 and
very acbve In the governance of the community centm as Treasurer. Secrelary and later a Trust88
under the r6•OTg8nised CIO. SadPy Ggorge died èarty in January 2022 and he wll be gr¢81ty missed by
811 connected to the centro.
Our partne￿hIP with Flvotside Delight is continuing to prov8 hlghty effective and mutualty benefidal,
allowing us to continue lo offer cake and play sbls for toddlers and mums as well as the morn
convonlional birthday parbes. Allhough these sessions arenl as busy as prg-covid, numbers are
gr8dualty Incr6#$ing and Rfv8rsld8 DelNJhl mounted an extremety successful Santa'8 Grotto.
And our partnership with Delta North Consett ha8 ar￿￿1 us to o)nlinue to deliver Ihe Prlnce'g Trust
Employability (x)urse, helping unemploy*d young people lo devekjp skllls, improve their CV. build on
lit8racy 8nd numèracy skills and bulld their confidence. Indeed. wè have been able lo build on Ihis
partnership and d8veknp our Youth Project by offerirrfJ two quite disb"n¢tNely different youth group8 on
evenlngs each week. This continues lo be a ￿bOra1fvfj prolect In whid) we work with other
groups- Gateshead Scouts. RodheLwh FootbaN Club. the SoundRoom and Dunston Help for F$mllles
- lo engage dlrectly with local young people In 8 bld lo address the yOud￿re1ated low level anti-50clal
behavbur that causes dL8tress and mlsery lo $0 many In our cwimunlty.
Govemance has ¢Mtbnued lo be challenglng durlng thls 18s1 year. We were finally able to hokl a face
to face rneeling. which enabled us lo I￿￿j our Annual General meeting. in June 2021. whith had beon
postponed from the previous year. bul the resumption of restrictions curtailed our pl8n$. Agaln, we

In condusion, whilst Ihe Pandem￿ has undoubtodlv had a detrimentsl impacl upon Ihe Centre,
finances and severely limited our abilty to meet our stsled txjnsti1ut￿naI objectives, we have been ablo
lo use our time to ensure that the Centr8 is as scrupuknu$ty clean as possible. To a &grtain extent. we
have also been able lo use our rosorves b ￿Sh￿)n the pandemi¢'$ finandal effe¢t and we look
fornard to resuming our level of serrf￿6 to Ihe communty.
