Main Activities of the Charity During The Year
The charity continued to sustain its commitments and respond to 50cietal needs in the city. We are
located at"The Halo Centre" a charity hub including Coventry Foodbank, Feedthe Hungryi Hope into
Action and HOPE Coventry. We have 16 part time staff working across four projects. There are
400+ volunteers serving 700+ clients from befriending to debt relief, offering prayer, to providing
events across the city.
HOPE Coventry has continued to grow throughout 2024. More churches of different types, and
broader communities, have become involved in Building Partnerships, Speaking Out, and Giving
Hope with us. In this challenging financial, environmental and spiritual climate, the need within each
project has grown. More older people are appearing isolated (over 670 in the year)- more families are
in debt; more youth are struggling with wellbeing,- more people need prayer. We are privileged to
provide support to those in need, thanks to hundreds of volunteersi grants of all sizes, and church
support & prayer. Please get involved if you feel able to do so. office@hopecoventry.org.uk l 07563

ioth Anniversary
A highlight of this year wa5 celebrating our ioth Anniversary. Over 120 Staff, volvnteers and guests
gathered inthe city centretocelebrate whatwe had achieved, and pray and plan forthefuture. Itwa5
a moving reflection of all the amazing work facilitated over the past decade, and offered
opportunities to dream about HOPE Coventry's next decade. This included the potential of HOPE
Hubs- theme-based groups addressing possible unmet social needs in the city e.g. mental health and
wellbeing, homelessness etc.
"I've never known two and a half hours go so quicklyl Every aspert of it wasfabulous. I particularly liked

Good Neighbours Coventry
Good Neighbours continues to make bespoke i:1 befriending matches between i501ated older
people, and carefully recruit and train volunteers. The project received 378 new referrals in 20241 and
had an additional -300 existing clients we actively supported at any point through the year.
We continued our Memory Lane groups successfully at two locations,. these are highly valued by
people living with dementia and their carers. Our two men's groups from previous years have
continued at their previous two locations. Additionally, we helped to launch a new group in Tile Hill
(since handed over to local church management), and in autumn, began a new and growing group in
Foleshill (a deprived and diverse part of the city).
We continued to provide additional specialised
training for volunteers, staff, members of the public
other charities, and professionals. A particular
highlight was our"Everything over 605 should know-
signposting for older people. training session. We
attended numerous community events including
those run by the Dementia Hub, the Carers, Trust,
Coventry Cathedral and the Tile Hill community. We
held several volunteer and older people meetups, to
fostera sense of belonging, especially for older people
who are typically housebound.
We formed partnerships with #Covconnects and the National Databank to reduce digital exclusion,
and Talking Therapies to improve isolated older people's acce5S to mental health services.
In addition to grant funding applications, we involved our clients and volunteers in the charity's ioth
Anniversary celebrations, and raised funds through a community coffee morningi sponsored walks

Christians Against Poverty-
This year Christians Against Poverty have supported 51 regular clients and met an additional 193
families through drop in centres. Assuming an average of two people per family, that is around 500
people.

lan, Christians Against Poverty Coventry
Manager, said:
"Cuthbert* had been struggling to support three
elderly relatives and had not made time for
himself, drifting into debt. When we met him at
a Foodbonk, he wa5 in tears about a bailiff
'threatening his door. We sot ond chatted,
then made just one call to the bailiff, who was
artuolly understanding and accepted o much-
reduced monthly payment, which we had
worked out that Cuthbert could afford.
We've since put a few other things in placefor
him, and he is also looking to re-engage ot his
church. "Ken* came to one of our drop ins at a localfoodbank and we got chatting about his debt ond
inability to budget. He acknowledged he just spends money when it 15 in his occount and doesn't plan
ohead. He was keen to get all his regularpayments (rent council tax etc) paid on the day his Universal
Credit was paid. We helped him make phone calls to do that and then appliedfor support in paying hi5
water bill. Alongside putting o budget together, we looked at 2 debts with bailiffs thot were causing him
much anxiety. Wephoned them both andmade orrangementsfora token poyment on one, andb￿￿thIng
space of a month on the other. This gave him spoce until an Advance loan was completed with Universal
Credit. This took3 VlSlts with Ken but ofter each, hi5 anxiety was clearly reduced. We continue to keep an
eye on him.

relationship with each other, as we all seek to see the city transformed with the love and grace of
Jesus.

also had a City Praise and Prayer gathering for the

Leaders Gatherings
HOPE Coventry is instrumental in connecting church leaders across Coventry. This enables them to
encourage and support each otheri pray for one another and also considerjointly how churches can
se￿e and bless the city.
Our leaders gathering in May 2024 was attended by over 80 people from local churches and
organisations. This event had a focus on Mental Health and Wellbeing- considering how churchescan
support both their congregations and communities across Coventry with the growing issue of poor
mental health and emotional wellbeing.
We were joined by a local GP with a 5pecialistfocus on mental health, local charities and organisations
supporting people with their mental health and our own Good Neighbovrs team shared about the
important men's work taking place.
The leaders, gathering led to further conversations around supporting people's emotional wellbeing
and the initial development of a specialist group of church leaders who would like to further consider
how churches can be integral to addressing this issue in Coventry.
Our second leaders gatheringi in October 20241 Served as our io year anniversary event, which was
verywell attended and feedback from this was excellent (see above)
Regional Leaders Prayer Gatherings
Ourfive Regional Prayer gatheringsfor leaders have gone from strength to strength in 2024. We have
seen between 10-15 leader5 gathering in each of the five hubs (North, South, East, West and Central)
several times a year for connection, building relationships and prayer.
Youth Leaders Gatherings
We have been regularly gathering with youth leaders across Coventry, to share ideas and resources,
encourage and support one another and explore how we can work together to develop city wide
youth initiatives.
Youth leaders have been incredibly grateful forthe timeto share together, and these gatherings have
birthed both Youth City Praise and Prayer and a new initiative for 2025- Coventry Youth Conference.
These large scale events are very beneficial to both young people and youth leaders in Coventry and
are made possible through the connections made with otheryouth leaders at these gatherings.

2: Accounting Policies
Basis of preparing the financial statement5
The financial statements of the charitable company, which is a public benefit entity under FRS 102,
have been prepared in accordance with the Charities SORP {FRS 102) 'Accounting and Reporting by
Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charitie5 preparing their accounts in

historical cost convention.
The significant accounting policies applied in the preparation of these financial statements are set

Government Grants
Government grants received are recognised at the point of receipt. Government grants are shown
separately.
Expenditure
Liabilities are recognised as expenditure as soon as there is a legal or constructive obligation
committing the charity to that expenditure, it is probable that a transfer of economic benefits will be
required in settlement and the amount of the obligation can be measured reliably. Expenditure is
accounted for on an accruals basis and has been classified under headings that aggregate all cost
related to the category. Where costs cannot be directly attributed to particular headings they have
been allocated to activities on a basis consistentwith the use of resources.
Grants offered subject to conditions which have not been met at the year-end date are noted as a
commitment but not accrued as expenditure.
Tangible fixed assets
Depreciation is provided at the following annual rates in order to write off each asset over its
estimated useful life..
Computers 20
Taxation
The charity is exempt from corporation tax on its charitable activities. Expenses are inclusive of VAT
where applicable.
