We believe that everyone should have the right to access creative activities, and we seek to work with those who might have difficulty in engaging in such occupations due to disability, mental health challenges, socio economic status, or any other barrier. **'Creativity is important for happiness. Creativity is part of you, whether you are an artist, a bus driver, a stay-at-home mum, or a professional. No matter who you are, some degree of creativity is necessary for wellness and contentment.’ The Creativity Cure by Carrie Barron, MD & Alton Barron, MD** ## **`The Moving Project`** The Moving Project was inspired by our work with refugees who have settled in the Sussex area. We worked closely with a group of children who had moved; sometimes from another country such as Afghanistan or Ukraine, but also simply from one part of the UK to another. In every instance the child was moving in the pursuit of safety and respite; from conflict, domestic violence or poverty. Through the work that was shared, we encouraged others to view the act of moving as a normal human activity that has been happening for millennia. Humans are a migratory species and have always moved about the planet seeking better conditions for life. Humans have always moved. In the process of sharing, other children were able to understand that we do not need to feel threatened by those who move to our country, and that movement increases diversity and enriches our cultural experience. As part of the project, we had the opportunity to work with writer and illustrator Ed Boxall, who helped us produce the book ‘The White Bird’. The book captured imagery of artwork produced by children alongside their words and poems. ## **`Bandage Me Better`** Bandage Me Better is a four year project exploring healing and trauma. It is one in which we delve deeply into the research that creativity can help make life meaningful, particularly in times of severe stress and hardship. Born out of the hard times faced by everyone during the pandemic, the charity feels there is a need to explore in depth the experiences of those who have faced challenges and moved through them. Early in February 2023, the charity had the opportunity to work with an artist who travelled to Aida Refugee Camp in Palestine. Our aim was to work with women and children living in the camp, and later in the year to work online with a primary school in Israel. Schoolchildren living in Crawley took part in an exchange of cyanotype artwork, sending messages of hope to Palestine and creating a ‘Comfort Quilt’ from artwork that was sent back. No-one could predict that by October, when we were to start our work with Israeli children, war would break out in this region. The British children involved in the project were distressed and worried about the prospect of World War 3. In order to help us process the enormity of what we were witnessing, the children created a ‘Fierce Love Manifesto’, and later secured funding to turn this into a book in 2024. ## **`Work with Schools and`** ## **`Community Groups`** During 2023 we worked with more than 550 people via our ongoing work with schools, community groups and arts organisations. Our lead artist, Janey Moffatt, was delighted to work with Hastings based The Refugee Buddy Project, supporting women to create textile work that was exhibited at Electro Studios as part of Refugee Week. She was selected for work on the following basis: She had existing relationships with schools and art alleries and the asked s ecificall to work with her Where restricted grant funds were allocated, her mother declared a conflict of interest and absented herself from discussions with the other trustees about who best to employ for the project. The remaining trustees based their decision on who was most suited and qualified for the role. The charity is exempt from corporation tax. Charitable Objects The provision of facilities for recreation and other leisure time occupation in the interests of social welfare with the object of improving conditions of life for the persons for whom they are intended. The charity has no specific policy with regard to the level of reserves. The trustees have agreed that a full audit is not required and that an independent examination is needed this year.
