What we do
At The Craftimation Factory we believe passionately
that everyone is naturally creative. Furthermore,
through the development of our own practice and
research, and by studying the work of others, we know
that being creative can have a great many benefits,
including promoting mental and physical well-being. We
believe that everyone should have the right to access
creative activities, and we seek to work with those
who might have difficulty in engaging in such
occupations due to disability, mental health
challenges, socio economic status, or any other
barrier.
'Creativity is important for
happiness. Creativity is part
of you, whether you are an
artist, a bus driver, a stay-
at-home mum, or a
professional. No matter who
you are, some degree of
creativity is necessary for
wellness and contentment.’

Bandage Me Better
2021 saw the beginning of an
important four year project for
the charity. It is one in which
we delve deeply into the
research that creativity can
help make life meaningful,
particularly in times of severe
stress and hardship. Born out of
the hard times faced by everyone
during the pandemic, the charity
feels there is a need to explore
in depth the experiences of
those who have faced challenges
and moved through them.
About Bandage Me Better
Lead artist on the project, Janey Moffatt, writes:
Bandage Me Better is a mixed media textile project that grew out
of my musings on the Give My Head Peace blog, where I explore
making textiles whilst dealing with life's adversities. It
started life as I pondered what I could make from my children's
vests that they had long outgrown.
The project uses the fabrics and processes of everyday life,
from recycling worn out tea towels to kitchen dyeing techniques
with onion skins and avocado pits.
It draws heavily on the sacred value of the items that support
us in the everyday; the things that help us, heal us and nurture
us on our journey. We can feel deeply connected to such objects
and find solace in them during times of sickness and adversity.
There is great value to be had in reminiscing and exploring the
history of textile items.
The project aims to reflect on the experience of living through
difficult times. It explores how we can make meaning out of
challenging experiences in our life by using the things that
surround us.
As part of Bandage Me Better, a series
of 'Sacred Stitches' workshops took
place locally at Hastings Contemporary
and internationally at the History
Museum of Bosnia & Herzegovina in
Sarajevo. Activities included
reflective hand stitching, dyeing with
household items and recycling pre-
loved fabrics.
It was a fantastic chance for the
project to connect with women living
in another country, providing the
opportunity to learn how they felt in
the aftermath of the Bosnian conflict
and what they do to cope with the
challenges they face.
'Nearly 2 years of Covid was really tough and left me
physically and emotionally exhausted. I needed
something creative to make me feel good again and
positive about the future.'
'Just the chance to get away from normal daily
concerns and be in a mindful place for a few hours,
plus I learned a lot and was really pleased with what
I made.'
Work with other organisations
During 2021 we worked with De La Warr Pavilion and various other
arts organisations and schools, helping people to embrace their
creativity as they began to emerge from the worst of the
pandemic.
We helped to run various Look, Think, Make family sessions at De
La Warr Pavilion, and enlisted the support of two young artists;
Paddy (age 10) and Finn (age 11) in making art activity videos
that families could watch at home.
At other venues, such as Hastings Contemporary, we assisted with
running Robot Tours so that schools could view artwork in the
gallery from the comfort of their classroom.
Thank You
During 2020 we managed to connect with more than
1000 people through our online and in person
activity. A huge thank to all those who worked
with us, checked out our exhibitions, participated
in our activities. This would not have been
possible without the support of our funders.
With thanks to National Lottery Community Fund, The
Longley Trust.

Governance and Management
The charity is operated under the rules of its constitution adopted November 2013 and registered with the Charity Commission on 21[st] February 2014.
The methods adopted for the recruitment and appointment of new trustees are laid down in the constitution.
The organisation hires venues as the need arises, and employs facilitators and project management on a self-employed basis when needed.
During the accounting period, trustees received no expenses, remuneration or benefits.
One of the facilitators is a daughter of one of the trustees. This facilitator was paid £17950 during the period. She was selected for work on the following basis:
-
She had existing relationships with schools and art galleries and they asked specifically to work with her
-
Where restricted grant funds were allocated, her mother declared a conflict of interest and absented herself from discussions with the other trustees about who best to employ for the project. The remaining trustees based their decision on who was most suited and qualified for the role.
The charity is exempt from corporation tax.
Charitable Objects
The provision of facilities for recreation and other leisure time occupation in the interests of social welfare with the object of improving conditions of life for the persons for whom they are intended.
The charity has no specific policy with regard to the level of reserves.

Independent Examiner’s Report for the year ended 31[st] December 2021
The charity’s trustees are responsible for preparing the accounts. The trustees have agreed that a full audit is not required and that an independent examination is needed this year.
It is my responsibility to check account entries against bank statements, and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required for an audit, consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair’ view. My report does state that the final balance sheet does tally with the accounts records and bank statements.
