Section D Achievements and performance

## **Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year**

Attendance was the highest on record, primarily due to an increased number beginners after the pandemic, both adults and juniors. Attendance had been dropping before the pandemic, particularly with junior fencers, so this was a great recovery.

In May 2022, 10 WFC fencers represented East Midlands at the British Fencing Junior Championships in Sheffield. These fencers had previously qualified from the regional event held in January 22 (please refer to the 2022 TAR. The highest placed fencer was 15[th] .

In January 2023, 12 WFC fencers took part in the East Midlands BYC Regional qualifier event in Nottingham. All 12 fencers qualified for the British Fencing Junior Championships to be held in Sheffield in May 2023.

In addition to this we had around 20 fencers both adult and junior competing at various levels from beginner to national competitions. Fencers regularly returned with a selection of medals and large smiles on their faces even in defeat. We had one in particular who attended the Elite Epee Junior finals and three who have appeared in the top 50 England rankings for their age group. Their attitudes have been both rewarding and inspiring.
