public in matters pertaining to animal welfare in general and the prevention of cruelty and suffering among animals.

Relieved the suffering of animals by providing care, attention and veterinary treatment as required. Once animals were able to, they were re-homed to a suitable household who could provide for their needs. We attended schools, scout meetings and public events talking to the general public and educating them on animal welfare. In planning our activities for the year we kept in mind the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit at our trustee meetings.

**Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)**

A fantastic contribution is made by our volunteers who spend many hours both caring for animals and fundraising.

Without this valuable contribution of time, effort and expertise we would not have been able to achieve so much.

You **may choose** to include further statements, where relevant, about:

- policy on grantmaking;

- policy programme related investment;

- contribution made by volunteers.

## Section D Achievements and performance

During the year we have taken in dogs and cats.

**Summary of the main achievements of the charity** Most animals come to us via the public contacting us when they feel they **during the year** can no longer care for the animal. A smaller proportion come via Veterinary Surgeries or Stray Shelters.

We neuter, microchip and flea/worm treat all animals. We also vaccinate dogs and rabbits. All animals are given Veterinary treatment as required. We continue to pay for any long term problems that are identified whilst an animal is in our care, even after the animal’s adoption. Those animals unable to be re-homed remain in long term foster care for the remainder of their life.

COVID-19 has continued to have a significant impact on our activities during the year due to the increased demand for rehoming pets, particularly dogs but also the reduced opportunities for fundraising for the charity due to changes in fundraising policies and cancellations of events.

## **Section E                    Financial review**

## **Brief statement of the charity’s policy on reserves**

We hold a small amount of cash in our bank in the case it is required in a medical emergency for an animal in our care.

We aim to hold a minimum of £1,000 at year end.

**Details of any funds materially** Not applicable. **in deficit**

## **Further financial review details (Optional information)**

You **may choose** to include additional information, where relevant about:

- the charity’s principal sources of funds (including any fundraising);

- how expenditure has supported the key objectives of the charity;

Our main source of funds this year has been donation fees given when an animal is adopted. We also fundraise at other pet events e.g. Great North Dog walk, though many of these events are only just starting up again after COVID.

We rely on the local community for their ongoing support.

The majority of income is spent on veterinary fees for the animals under our care.

We have no staff costs as all time is given to the Charity voluntarily.

- investment policy and objectives including any ethical investment policy adopted.

## **Section F Other optional information**
