We see the OOSC as having**four purposes**
relating to advancing the education of children
in the Downend area, through the provision of
out of school childcare at a modest cost:
1. to further advance the provision of
supervised play activities on the
Stanbridge Primary School site eg
basketball, football, group games such
as ‘tag’, playing on the school field play
equipment or using equipment such as
skipping ropes, hula hoops, footballs
etc;
2. to supplement the creative
opportunities available to the children,
allowing them to express themselves
through craft activities, eg marking
cards/presents for Mother’s
Day/Father’s Day, or Christmas/Easter
decorations, learning paper crafts such
as origami etc
3. to teach the children to be ‘good global
citizens’, supporting the work of the
primaryschool,by providing| 1 information on and arranging activities on protecting the environment. wrap-around childcare to a significant number
of pupils at Stanbridge Primary School(approx.
157 children, a small increase from the
previous year), allowing parents to work and
giving the children a warm, welcoming
environment to play and relax in before and
after school hours.
Cold and hot breakfast options are available to
children attending the breakfast club, such as a
choice of cereal, croisunts and toast. In the
afternoon children have a choice of jam or
savoury sandwitches, along with vegetable
sticks, fruit-flavoured yogurt and fruits. Juice,
squash, milk and water are on offer. Dairy free
alternatives are available as per parents
requests.
As part of our overall emphasis on safety this
academic year we have separated children
from KS1 and KS2 to ensure all children felt
safe and staff were able to attend to their
needs. In both groups children are free to
engage in a range of arts and crafts, indoor and
outdoor play.
This year we have also began reviewing and
updating the club’s policies to ensure they are
up to date to safeguard children and staff.
Compared to the previous academic year
(2023/2024) numbers of children on the books
increased slightly with new Reception starters
replacing Y6 leavers. Wednesday is the most
popular day for breakfast club (53 children)
whilst Tuesday is the most popular day for
after-school-club (58 children), well below the
club’s full capacity at 65 children per session.
Friday is the most quiet day for both. There
was no waiting list for the 2024/2025 academic
year, with all parents getting the sessions they
requested. That was because parents were
communicated in advance on which days
had/had no capacity to plan accordintly.
This year there were some changes in staffing.
We started this academic year with 8 members
of staff, 6 permanent and 2 on zero hours
contracts. One of these has been on long-term
sick leave and had left the club by the end of
the academic year. We have employed two
new members of staff and finished the year
with 7permanent members of staff.| |---|---|---| 3 Ratios of staff to children remained above those used at other clubs/the levels required by Ofsted. The trustees committee has continued to invest in the wellbeing and personal development of staff. We invested in staff training for two members of staff to receive training in Level 3 Paediatric First Aid. We have also updated our staff sickness policies. We have continued to use the website and online registration system set by the OSC’s Chair. This year we have also set up a closed WhatsAPP group voluntarily joined by parents to be used as a platform for communication between parents and the OOSC team and for updates and announcements. The Trustees have continued to work closely with the Stanbridge Primary School’s management and the OSC comms material are routinely included in the school’s newsletter to maintain awareness among parents. financial position at the end
of the period|Para 1.21|Finances remain healthy.
Total income was higher than the previous
financial year by £9,745 (£112,458 vs
£102,713). This was due to higher number of
children using the club. Total expenditure was
higher than the previous financial year, with
staffing costs pushing up expenses (£92,024 vs
80,520). Despite the additional costs our
surplus wa £20,434, slightly lower than in
2023/2024 (£22,193). Our total cash reserves,
which includes two savings accounts in
addition to our Debit account are £91,177.
Staff wages were increased across the board in
line with minimum wage increases, in effect for
April’s salaries. The club reviewed the financial
impact of various potential increases and
checked wages for similar roles in the local
area for staff on higher-than-minimum wage
