Basingstoke and District Disability Forum CIO Welcome from our Chair Impact statement for the financial year ending 31st March 2025 for Basingstoke & District Disability Forum (BDDFI. The Report and Accounts have been prepared on an accruals bas15. Our services have provided directsupportto Disabled people, while BDDF has extended our reach by hosting events and groups that connect more with local charities and organisations committed to SUPPOrting the Disabled community. As demand forthese services continues to rise-driven by an ageing population, economic pressures, and sustained strain on the charitable sector-we remain steadfast in our mission. We are committed to listening to our members, increasing our impact, and growing our membership to ensure we reach and support more Disabled individuals across Basingstoke and Deane. We are pleased to report that BDDF has successfully secured funding for several key initiatives. We extend our sincere gratitude to all ourfunders fortheir generosity and continued confidence in our mission. We acknowledge the invaluable contributions of National Lottery and People's Postcode Lottery players, whose supportwill enable the deliveryof vital programmes overthe next five years. Additional fundraising efforts have further strengthened our work. Highlights include hosting a children's activity stall at the Basingstoke Transport Festival in May 2024, organised by the Basingstoke and Deane Rotary Club, and conducting multiple collection drives at local supermarkets such as Morrison's and Tesco. These artivities not only generate funds but also enhance public engagement and raise awareness of BDDF'S impact within the wider community. The Board of Trustees met ten times during this financial period, with several members actively contributing to the delivery of events and Servi5. To sustain this momentum and support our continued growth, we recognise the need to expandtheTrustee board and welcome new members who share our commitment to the organisation's mission. On behalf of Basingstoke & District Disability Forum, we extend oursincere appreciation to all whose dedication and professionalism continue to Shape 8DDF into the valued organisation it is today. We also acknowledge the vital contributions of our charity partners, supporters, and volunteers. Most importantly, we thank our growing membership. BDDF'S work is made possible by the continued support of the Basingstoke and Deane community, to whom we remain deeply grateful. Hannah Reilly - Chair of Trustees
Basingstoke and District Disability Forum CIO What BDDF achieved in 2024-2025 Ongoing Signposting Service Chronic Pain Support Groups Disability Awareness Day Camera Club (in partnership with Wavelly House) New Accessible Art Clubs New In-Person Support Groups New Online Support Groups New Disability Awareness Sessions for Schools Who we are: BDDF was formed in 2(N)8 to supportthe local disabled communwty. When BDDF formed, there was no clear organisation representingthe general disabilitycommunity of Basingstoke. There was a gap in the accessibility of services available, as well as a lack of inclusion or opportunities for Disabled people. BDDF was founded by a group of residents with lived experience of disabilities with the aim of supporting the community, giving a voice and addressing the stigma. We achieved registered th th Charity status in 2014. We celebrated our 10 Birthday as a registered charity on 6 February 2024. Our Vision: To create a community that sees the person, values the difference, and embraces awareness. Our Mission: To facilitate increased awareness, active involvementand healthy promotion of Disabled people and their impairments and health conditions. Our Aim: To promote both visible and invisible disability. By increasing awareness, providing information and bringing people together. BDDF partners and collaborates with fellow disability charities/groups and provides guidance to local businesses who are striving to be accessible and inclusive. Strategic Objertives: l. Involvement- to improve the involvement and representation of Disabled people and their families/carers within Basingstoke. 2. Digital Divide and Paper-based Resources Digital exclusion is affecting our communities, and the move to technology triggered by the pandemic is deepeningthe divide. Independence is heavily reliant on access to information, and with more information than ever before being online, we must break down the barriers and reduce the digital gap.
Basingstoke and District Disability Forum CIO BDDF swiftly moved services online where possible, created a more accessible website and established IT support sessions to help our members get online. However, there is still a vast proportion of members who cannot access the internet or have the knowledge to be able to research information on the internet. The Digital Divide remains a key barrier for many of our members, so BDDF continues to focus on digital inclusivity. Our main donations were given to us for printing a booklet of information, advice and services in the local community. This is for people who f ind it diff icult to research information online. This is why paper-based resources are important to our members. and consequently why BDDF created a signposting and information magazine called "Be Included Basingstoke" IBIBI which contains written information about local support services in Hampshire regarding disabilities and mental health. Two issues of the BIB were prodUd between March 2024 and 2025, with a third special f inancial edition in progress. Our Survey- Giving Disabled People a Voice The 2024 edition of the BDDF survey was opened in April 2024 and subsequently received 38 responses. Results showed that almost 61Ykn of our members struggle to some degree with social isolation, and respondents rate their life satisfaction lower than the national average. Members reported issues in daily life including physical access problems, discrimination, and denial of se rvice . Happily, those who can engage with BDDF services in some capacity report higher life satisfaction and feelings that things they do are worthwhile, and lowersocial isolation scores. BDDF will survey members annually going forward and act on feedback. The key takeaway from this survey was that members wanted more social interaction, and this has been acted upon thanks to the generous funding we received from the National Lottery Community Fund. Our Awareness Events & Community Collaboration: Supporting our community through partnerships that deliver innovattve projects that focus upon improving health and well-being. Disabili Awareness Da DAD On Friday 2P, June 2024. BDDF hosted its annual Disability Awareness Day. Open to the public from 9.30am to 3pm in The Malls Shoppingcentre. With our key aims being to provide information, offer advice and raise awareness. This event has previously been held in April, but the last two years were very cold forthose who were seated for a long period of time and so we agreed to move the date to a warmer month such asjune. Around 35 local organisations joined BDDF each of whom provide SeiceS for Disabled people. Volunteers and staff were on hand to answerquestions on a wide range of topics including benefits, transport, health, housing, education, sports and more ! The Disability Awareness Day is ourflagship event to healthily promote both visible and non-visible disability. By increasing awareness, providing information and bringing people together. io
Basingstoke and District Disability Forum CIO We gave out many of our latest edition of our'Be Included Basingstoke, magazines and canvas bags with our BDDF logo on. The Digital divide has had a huge impact on our members and the wider Disabled community. Thank you to all who came. Be Included Basin stoke We have now distributed 4 issues of the BIB, with the fifth in progress. Thousands have been distributed in the Basingstoke area.
