ThetrusteeshaveadoptedtheprovisionsofAccountingandReportingbyCharities:Statementof Recommended
PracticeapplicabletocharitiespreparingtheiraccountsinaccordancewiththeFinancialReporting Standard
applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019).

OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES

Objectives and aims

ToadvanceeducationforthepublicbenefitbyraisingpublicawarenessoftheGallipoliCampaignof1915and by
encouragingandfacilitatingthestudyinthelegacyandlessonsofthatCampaign,keepingalivethememoryof the
Campaignandensuringthatallwhofoughtorservedinit,andthosewhogavetheirlives,arenotforgotten by
applying such means as the Trustees deem fit.

Public benefit

ThetrusteeshavecompliedwiththedutiesinSection17oftheCharitiesAct2011tohaveregardto guidance
publishedbyTheCharityCommission,includingpublicbenefitguidance.Fordetailsseesection'Charitable activities'
below.

ACHIEVEMENT AND PERFORMANCE Charitable activities

We set ourselves a demanding number of projects to deliver in 2023 which included:
Iamdelightedthatmostofthesehavebeenachievedandwithsomeconsiderablesuccess.Ourflagship events,
AnnualWreathLayingatStPaul's,theAnnualConferenceandschoolbattlefieldtour,havebeendelivered and
continuetoachievegreatimpactinmeetingourobjectives.OurEducationprogrammehasreachedbothyoung and
old anddoes so much more thanthe core deliveryof historicalfact.By studyingthisparticularcampaign,we are able
to expose new audiencesto the characteristicsrequiredof those serving in the armed forces in the early 20th Century.
Thesecharacteristicsareenduringandincludeservice,duty,loyalty,commitment,resilience,sacrificeand humility
amongstmanyothers.Byhighlightingsuchlessons,weencouragediscussionandthroughthemediumof military
studywe challengeaudiencesto considerthem in a moderncontext.Time andagainthisis whatthoseattending our
eventstellus,thereisarealappetitetolearnwhenyoucancontemporisethelessonsandindoingsowemeet our
objectives of Remembering, Honouring and Studying those who served on the peninsula 109 years ago.
TheabilitytohavesuchanimpactonsomanyrestsentirelywiththeworkoftheTrusteesandvolunteers, which
continuestoimpressthemembersandthiswriter.Trusteesreceivenopaymentorfinancialrewardfor their
considerableendeavours.AsvolunteerstheyworktirelesslyinpursuitoftheCharity'sobjectives.Conferences and
webinarshavebeenrunandreachwideaudiencesincludingmembersinAustralia.Exhibitionsandmuseum events
haveattractednewaudiences,andourHellesBattlefieldStudyProjectisliterallyandhistoricallybreaking new
ground.We also answer a great many queries from members and non-memberson the campaign.These are passed to
ourHistorian,StephenChambers,whotakesconsiderabletimeandefforttodiligentlyresearchthematter and
provideafullanddetailedresponse.IamproudofwhattheGallipoliAssociationhasachievedinthepastyear and
wouldliketorecordmy thankstotheTrusteesandvolunteersforraisingourgametonewheights- thepandemic is
truly well behind us, normal service has resumed but on a greater level.
ButinacknowledgingtheTrusteesIalsoreportthatourEducationCoordinatorhaselectedtoretireattheend of
2024.IanBinniehaselevatedtheeducationprofileoftheAssociationover6hugelysuccessfulyearsinpost.A hard
actto followandwe willaim to havea new EducationCoordinatorin postby the endof 2024.Of betternews is  that
Hester Huttenbach, our Events Coordinator, was elected a Trustee at the 6 October 2023 Annual General Meeting.

To Remember

The Wreath-LayingServiceat the GallipoliAssociationMemorialin the Cryptof St Paul'sremainsourmajor memorial
eventoftheyearandisstronglysupported.TheMinsterofState,BaronessGoldieDLrepresentedtheMinistry of
Defence,andtheHighCommissionersofAustraliaandNewZealandattendedalongwiththeAmbassadorsof Turkey
andIreland,andrepresentativesoftheFirstSeaLordandChiefoftheGeneralStaff.Thisremainsthemajor British
annualcommemorationoftheCampaignandassuchtheAssociationiskeepingtheflameofremembrancealive for
the nation.
Inaddition,thereareotherregionalandlocalservicesheldaroundthecountryandI am delightedthatthe Trustees
and members attendedmany of them. In particular,we were delightedthat BreconCathedralheld a  Commemoration
for the 29th Divisionon the morningof Sunday23 April.The diplomaticimpasse remainswith the authoritiesin Egypt
overtherevampingoftheZionistMuleCorpsMemorialinAlexandria,butwe arereadytofundtheworkassoon as
theCWGC(CommonwealthWarGravesCommission)givesusthethumbsup.TheFieldofRemembrance at
WestminsterAbbeyisalwaysamostpowerfuleventandtheGallipoliAssociationplotwasfullwithcrosseslaid by
membersrecognisingtheserviceandsacrificeoftheirforebears.ThreedayslatertheAssociationwas well
representedwitha contingentmarchingattheRemembranceDayCenotaphwhichincludedmembersfromthe USA,
Australia,Irelandas well as the UK. These events are popularwith our members and we considerit a key objectof  the
Charity to arrange them.

To Study

Ourresolvetoreachaudiencesofallageshasreapedrewardsthisyear.ThemonthlyZoomtalkshavecontinued to
attractan audienceaveragingover 50 attendees,whichare recordedandplacedon ourYouTubechannel,ensuring a
lastingrecord.EngagementwithU3A(UniversityoftheThirdAge)hasachievedanactiveparticipationofsome 80
individuals.ThethirdRegionalConferencewaswellattendedattheChelmsfordCityMuseum,andwithsome 40
attendees it even made a small profit which was put back into the Education Budget.
ThePresident'sBookAwardstillattractedasignificantnumberofaccomplishedauthors.Thewinnerwas Henrietta
Megarrywithher booktitle'Lemnosin History,Greek IslandBase for Gallipoli'.Otherinitiativesincludedthe creation
ofavirtualtourofWorcester'sconnectionswiththemenwhofoughtatGallipoliandlocalwalkingtours exploring
communities'connectionswiththecampaign.TherewasaGallipoli-themedStaffordshireTrenchDaywhich was
attendedby80people.A CommunityEventwasheldatBranwoodEndCemeteryandtheAssociationhas continued
topursueadynamicrangeofeducationalactivitieswithprimaryandsecondaryschoolsduringtheyear. The
Associationhasalsoengagedtwoeducationalists,whoareworkingtoproduceon-lineteachingmaterialson the
campaign and which will be shared with schools.
The Association ran two battlefield tours to the Peninsula in 2023, as follows:
ThefirstwastheAssociation'sBattlefieldTourinMay,whichweorganisedtogetherwithBattleHonoursLtd.It was
fullybookedandcomprisedthestandard"WalkingGallipoli"tourfornewcomersandthe"HiddenGallipoli"tour for
more advanced participants, which included a first-ever day exploring the island of Imbros.
FortheSchoolBursarytourinJuly,wewerepleasedtopartnerwithTheCharterSchoolinNorthDulwich.The tour
wasdeliveredinconjunctionwithBattleHonoursandledbyGallipoliAssociationHistorian,Stephen Chambers.
Aboveallelse,theseBursarytrips,whichcosttheAssociationc.£12,000peryear,delivera disproportionateeffect in
providingopportunityandgeneratingenthusiasmforeducationamongstacohortofyoungsters,whoare not
privilegedand wouldnot otherwisebe able to experiencesuch things.The CharterSchoolHead of Historywrote after
daytwoofafive-daytour,"thisisthebestdayI'vehadin13yearsasateacher".Thistripprovidesan opportunity
whichgoesto theheartof whattheAssociationis allabout- it tellsa storythatdoesnotglorifywarfarebut inspires
an interest in the human characteristics mentioned above, which endure and are the foundation of our heritage.

TheproductionofourvirtualbattlefieldguideshasbeendelayedbuttheTrusteesremainfullycommittedto the
projectwithBattleGuideMilitaryToursLimitedtoproduceatourthatwilluseadvancedgraphicsand technologies
and be easilyassessable,informativeand stimulating.We lookforwardto the first tourbeingreleasedon the 25  April
2024.
The educationaland commemorativework we plan and have completedis fullyannouncedin advanceand written up
oncompletionviaourrobustcommunicationplatformsonFacebook,X(formerlyTwitter),LinkedIn,our monthly
Newsletter, our website and last but not least, our flagship journal, The Gallipolian.

To Honour

Everythingwedoistohonourthosewhoservedandsoweachievethisobjectivebyvirtueofthe successful
conclusionofallourprojects.TheHellesBattlefieldStudyProjectremainsamulti-yearprojecttodigitallymap and
recordthecampaignandpeninsulaforfuturegenerationsbeforetimeerodesgeographicalandterrainfeatures. The
trip in 2023 unearthednew locationsand historicaltreasures.This is one projectwhich will truly stand the test of time
and be a lasting tribute to the legacy of all those who served in 1915/16.
TheAutumnLunchwaswellattendedby42members(includingonefromAustralia)andtheirguestswhoenjoyed a
fascinatingafter-lunchspeechfromSirRichardMoore,formerAmbassadortoTurkey.Thefollowingdayover 60
attendedtheAnnualConferencewithsixexcellentspeakersandapresentationfromthehistorystudents from
Charter House School who had travelled to Gallipoli on the trip.
ThenewrelationshipwithTurkishGallipoliCampaignInstitute(ÇanakkaleSava?lar?Enstitüsü-ÇASAEN),based in
Çanakkale,is stilldevelopingandeach year the small projectsof collaborationgainmomentum.The relationship with
the TurkishEmbassyand Ambassadorremainsvitalto the continuedsuccess of this partnershipand I am delighted to
report it is strong.

Membership Report for Annual Report

Membershipattheendof2023stoodat878.2023sawtherevisionofourmembershipfeesforthefirsttime in
several years.Inevitablyan increaseof 25% resultedin a few members resigningas budgetswere stretched. However,
this was partlyoffset by the offer of 'digital'membershipwhich held subscriptionsfor UK members and reduced them
foroverseasmembers.Somefortyorsomembershavetakenupthismembershipoptionwhichprovidesasaving in
printing and postal costs. We also welcomed 62 new members (51 in 2022) which made up for those who left.
Theprincipalreasonforjoiningstillseems tobe throughancestryalthoughwe havestudentswhojoinand generally
leave once theirstudiesare complete.Attractingthosewho have discovereda connectionwith the campaign remains
a focus, the challenge is to retain them.
It is throughcommunicationsthatwe have managedto maintainour reachand explainour relevanceand the level  of
impactwehaveonthosewhoengagewithus.IremainhugelygratefultothesmallCommsGroup(Global Cloud
Communications) - without them our good work could easily be missed.

FINANCIAL REVIEW

Financial Results and Reserve Policy

We have been able to conducta full programmebut this has increasedour expenditureand the Trustees are very  alive
to how this has affected our balance sheet.
TheAssociation'smainincomesourcecontinuedtobemembershipfees,£22,948in2023(2022: £16,848).
SupplementingthistheAssociationhasbeenfortunateinreceivingafurther£4,377(2022:£1,433)during2023 for
gifts, legacies and donations.
Followingtheestablishmentofnewbankdepositaccountsin2021theaccountsnowsitat£90,555in the
BuckinghamshireBuildingSociety(upfrom£88,067in2022)and£98,291intwoInvestmentFundswithCCLA; these
beingtheCharitiesInvestmentFundandCharitiesGlobalFund,upfrom£85,721in2022.TheTrusteesare mindful
that these investments can also decrease in value and the market valuations are kept under strict scrutiny.
Attheendof2023theAssociation'scashreservescontainedaveryhealthybalanceof£102,231.The investment
fundshad a value of £98,291.Totalreserves availableto the charityat 31st December 2023 stoodat £196,998 (2022:
£200,393) down £3,395.
But this does mean the Trusteesneed to considerhow fundingcan be improvedin 2024 and beyond.This is a priority
for our consideration.
OurreservesarecurrentlystrongbutdiminishinginlinewithTrustees'expectations.Wereceivefunding from
membershipsubscriptionswhichcover,in most part,the underlyingcostsof the Association.We receivea little extra
supportfromsmalldonorsandtheoccasionallargegrant/giftwhichallowsus,inmostpart,toconduct our
educationalactivitiesbutexpendituredoesexceedincome;theTrusteesknowthisandmonitoritclosely. Our
Restrictedfundsof£34,891(2022:£30,996)arealleducationallyfocusedtoboththeannualschooltripand other
educational activities.

Risk statement

TheTrusteeshaveadutytoidentifyandreviewtheriskstowhichthecharityisexposedandtoensure appropriate
controlsareinplacetoprovidereasonableassuranceagainstfraudanderror.Themajorrisks,bothoperational and
financial,towhichthecharityissubjectareassessedeachyearandappropriatesafeguardsarediscussedandput in
placetomitigatethecharity'sexposuretotheserisksshouldtheycrystalise.Theriskmanagementpolicyis closely
linked to the reserve policy.

Recruitment and appointment of new trustees

New trusteesare appointedby membersoutof the existingmembershipat an AnnualGeneralMeeting;trustees can
appoint new trustees any time; a minimum of at least 20 members can nominate a person for a trustee vacancy.

STATEMENT OF TRUSTEES' RESPONSIBILITIES

The trusteesare responsiblefor preparingthe Reportof the Trusteesand the financialstatementsin accordance with
applicable law and United Kingdom Accounting Standards (United Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Practice).
ThelawapplicabletocharitiesinEnglandandWales,theCharitiesAct2011,Charity(Accountsand Reports)
Regulations2008andtheprovisionsofthetrustdeedrequiresthetrusteestopreparefinancialstatementsfor each
financialyearwhichgiveatrueandfairviewofthestateofaffairsofthecharityandoftheincomingresources and
applicationofresources,includingtheincomeandexpenditure,ofthecharityforthatperiod.Inpreparing those
financial statements, the trustees are required to

I reportto the charitytrusteeson my examinationof the accountsof The GallipoliAssociation(the Trust)for the year
ended 31 December 2023.

Responsibilities and basis of report

AsthecharitytrusteesoftheTrustyouareresponsibleforthepreparationoftheaccountsinaccordancewith the
requirements of the Charities Act 2011 ('the Act').
I reportin respectof my examinationof the Trust'saccountscarriedoutunderSection145 of the Act andin carrying
out my examinationI have followedall applicableDirectionsgiven by the CharityCommissionunderSection 145(5)(b)
of the Act.

Independent examiner's statement

I havecompletedmyexamination.I confirmthatnomaterialmattershavecometomyattentioninconnection with
the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:

1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the Trust as required by Section 130 of the Act; or

2. the accounts do not accord with those records; or

3. the accounts do not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a true and fair view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.

Ihavenoconcernsandhavecomeacrossnoothermattersinconnectionwiththeexaminationtowhich attention
should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

1. ACCOUNTING POLICIES

Basis of preparing the financial statements

Thefinancialstatementsof thecharity,whichis a publicbenefitentityunderFRS 102,havebeenprepared in
accordancewiththeCharitiesSORP(FRS102)'AccountingandReportingbyCharities:Statement of
RecommendedPracticeapplicabletocharitiespreparingtheiraccountsinaccordancewiththe Financial
ReportingStandardapplicablein the UK and Republicof Ireland(FRS 102) (effective1 January2019)', Financial
ReportingStandard102 'The FinancialReportingStandardapplicablein the UK and Republicof Ireland'and the
CharitiesAct 2011. The financialstatementshave been preparedunder the historicalcost convention,with the
exception of investments which are included at market value, as modified by the revaluation of certain assets.

Income

All incomeis recognisedin the Statementof FinancialActivitiesoncethe charityhasentitlementto the funds,
it is probable that the income will be received and the amount can be measured reliably.

Expenditure

Liabilitiesarerecognisedasexpenditureassoonasthereisalegalorconstructiveobligationcommitting the
charitytothatexpenditure,itisprobablethatatransferofeconomicbenefitswillberequiredin settlement
andtheamountof theobligationcanbe measuredreliably.Expenditureis accountedforonanaccruals basis
andhas been classifiedunderheadingsthataggregateall costrelatedto the category.Wherecostscannot be
directlyattributedtoparticularheadingstheyhavebeenallocatedtoactivitiesonabasisconsistentwith the
use of resources.

Taxation

The charity is exempt from tax on its charitable activities.

Investments

Investmentsare stated at market value at the year end. All gains and losses on Investmentsare reflectedin the
Statement of Financial Activities as they arise.

Debtors

Tradeandotherdebtorsarerecognisedatthesettlementamount.Prepaymentsarevaluedatthe amount
prepaid.

Cash and cash equivalents

Cashandcashequivalentsarerepresentedbycashinhand,depositsheldatcallwithfinancial institutions,
with insignificant risk of change in value.

Creditors

LiabilitiesandprovisionsarerecognisedwhenthereisanobligationattheBalancesheetdateasa resultof a
pastevent.Liabilitiesarerecognisedattheamountthecharityanticipatesitwillpaytosettlethe debt.
Provisions are measured at the best estimate of the amounts required to settle the obligation.

Fund accounting

Unrestricted funds can be used in accordance with the charitable objectives at the discretion of the trustees.
Restrictedfundscanonlybeusedforparticularrestrictedpurposeswithintheobjectsofthe charity.
