applying such means as the Trustees deem fit.

## **`ACHIEVEMENT AND PERFORMANCE Charitable activities`**

We hadhighhopesattheendof2021thatwe wouldsee a returntonormalityforourannualprogrammein2022 -
andwehave.Ithasbeenabusyyearwhichhasseentheresumptionofwellattendedconferencesandseminars, a
cadettriptothebattlefieldandthefullrangeofcommemorativeevents.Animpressiveyear,withsome highlights
mentionedbelow,andallenabledbyadedicatedanddynamicsetofTrustees.Itisonlyrightmyfirst substantive
commentistooffermythanksandadmirationtotheTrusteesforalltheyhavedoneandcontinuetodofor the
Association- and in mentioningthem I would also like to thank our Events Coordinator,Ms Hester Huttenbach,for  her
energyinmakingourwidevarietyofeventssoeffectiveandappealing,andourPresidentwhosecalmand wise
counsel is always greatly valued.
```

## `Some of our 2022 achievements:`

ToRemember.Fromtheexceptionallywellattendedwreath-layingServiceatStPaul'storegionalacts of
remembranceandtotheCenotaphParadeinNovember,theAssociationhasbeenrepresentedatthe main
commemorativeeventsthroughouttheyear.A commemorativeservicewasheldatLeamingtontohonourthe 29th
Division,butplanstoerectamemorialinthetownhavebeenpausedtoensurewegettherightlocationand one
wherethelocalcommunitywillvalueitspresence.Wehavereachedadiplomaticimpassewiththeauthorities in
EgyptovertherevampingoftheZionistMuleCorpsMemorial,butwearereadytofundtheworkassoonas the
CommonwealthWar Graves Commissiongives us the thumbs up.We are particularlypleased that the flagship project
todigitallymapthepeninsulahasstartedandhasalreadyunearthednewlocationsandhistoricaltreasures.This is
oneprojectwhichwilltrulystandthetestoftimeandbealastingtributetothelegacyofallthosewhoserved in
1915/16.
```

ToStudy.Wehavecontinuedtoreachyoungandless-youngmembersofthepublicbyputtingonaseriesof well
attendedliveandvirtualevents.Ourregularmid-weekwebinarshaveretainedtheirlockdownappealandare well
supportedbysome50 attendeeseverymonth.ThewebinarsarenowrecordedandplacedonourYouTube channel
sootherscanenjoythematleisure.TheAnnualConferenceattheRAFClubattractedsome45delegatesand the
RegionalConferenceinChelmsfordinMarch2022attractedover40.Discussionsaroundthepresentationsat both
events clearlydemonstrateda lively interestin the campaignand its enduringlessons.We were thrilledthat we could
hostagroupofcadetsandschoolstudentsonatriptothepeninsula-theimpactofthesetripsneverceases to
inspire,it goes to the heart of what the Associationis all about.Our links with local museums have been nurtured and
continueodevelop-athemethatwillcontinueinto2023.Wehaveworkedwiththreeschoolsinpartnership with
Artists in Schoolsto make the best of differentmediums to encouragelearningand generatean interestin history and
the campaign.  It is working.
```

To Honour.Of course,everythingwe do is to honourthosewhoservedandso we achievethisobjectiveby virtue of
thesuccessfulconclusionof allourprojects.Butit is worthnotingherethattheTrusteesdonotstandstillin seeking
news ways to honourourforebears.2022 saw the inauguralPresident'sBookAwardwhichattracteda great number
ofwriterswhosubmittedawiderangeofbiographicalandhistoricalbooksonthecampaign.Thestandard was
impressivelyhighandit was wonderfulto see suchenthusiasmfrom amateurauthors.We have alsocommissioned a
series of virtuallybattlefieldtours throughBattle Guide VirtualTours which will allow us to show the battlefieldand all
itslessonstoamuchwideraudience.Andfinally,wehavestartedanewandboldpartnershipwiththe Turkish
GallipoliCampaignInstitute(ÇanakkaleSavaslarEnstitüsü-ÇASAEN)basedinÇanakkale.Thislookstouse sporting
events as a medium to encourage study by both British and Turkish students.
```

MembershipReportforAnnualReport.Membershiphasdeclinedslightlysincethistimelastyearandwhenwe are
given a reason it tends to reference the 'cost of living'rather than relevance.58 new members joinedin 2022 (up  from
52 in 2021) more or less matchingthose who left. At the 2022 AGM it was noted that The Trustees had agreed to raise
subscriptionsin2023from£20.00to£25.00forUKmembersandfrom£30.00to£40.00forthoseoverseas.At the
sametime'Digital'membershipwasintroducedtoreflectincreasedcostsoflivingandthisprovidesonlineaccess to
The Gallipolian for a subscription of £20.00 per annum. A number of members have taken up this option.

leave once their studies are complete.Attractingthose who have discovereda connectionwith the campaign remains
a focus, the challenge is to retain them.

impact we have on those who engage with us.I remain hugelygratefulto the small Comms Group - withoutthem  our
good work could easily be missed.

We have movedon from the Covidpandemicandhave been ableto conducta fullprogrammebutthishas  increased
our expenditure and the Trustees are very alive to how this has affected our balance sheet.

TheAssociation'smainincomesourcecontinuedtobemembershipfees,£16,848in2022(2021: £19,549).
Supplementing this the Association has been fortunate in receiving a further £1,433 during 2022 in donations.
```

In2021theAssociationmadeseveraldepositsinvariousaccountstomaximiseearnings.Thesehavegenerally done
wellandouraccountsnowsitat£88,067intheBuckinghamshireBuildingSociety(upfrom£87,240in2021) and
£85,721intotwo InvestmentFundswithCCLA;these beingthe CharitiesInvestmentFundandCharitiesGlobal Equity
IncomeFund,downfrom£95,686in2021.Thiswasalargefallbutnotunexpectedgiventheinvestmentturmoil in
2022andbothfundshaveshowngoodrecoveryin2023.TheTrusteesaremindfulthattheseinvestmentscan also
decrease in value and the market valuations are kept under strict scrutiny.
```

Attheendof2022theAssociationcashreservescontainedaveryhealthybalanceof£114,039withan additional
£85,721ininvestmentfunds.Totalreservesavailableto thecharityat 31stDecember2022stoodat £200,393 which
is the 2021 balance of £233,445 less the deficit for the year of £33,052.
```

But this does mean the Trustees need to considerhow fundingcan be improvedin 2023 and beyond.This is a  priority
for our consideration.
```

Ourreservesarecurrentlyhigh,butdiminishing,aswewerefortunateenoughtoreceivefundingandhave retained
themtocompensateushavingnoguaranteedincomeabovemembershipsubscriptions-thesepayforthe routine
costsoftheAssociation(magazineetc)butnottheeducationalandmemorialprojects.Thefundsremained static
over the pandemic but are now being rapidly used up.
```
