The holding of an annual show to judge and improve the breeds of various farm animals,. to showcase agricultural machinery; promote local businesses and showcase regional horticulture. The annual show is also an opportunity for local fam)ers, residents and visrtors to participate together in a wide range of low-key compelitions to promote a wider knowledge and understanding of the local rurgl economy. Section D Achievements and performance The Show, a one-day event, was held on the Saturday before the bank holiday al the end of August 2025. The show ran wrth all the usual aclivilies and local businesses attending, including a fam)ers' market, trade and calering stands, show jumping, dog agility trials, Morris Minor car display, ferret racing, agricultural machinery display. dry stone walling competrtion, a full range of produo and livestock exhibits. and various fun competrtions for visitors. Our livestock categories influence Ihe farming commrtlee in deciding what they themselves may fami and are great attraction to visilors. The show attracts a wide range of visitors from the local and farming communities together with tourists visiting the Yorkshire Dales. The Committee believe the Show is VFtal in encouraging young famers and we make donations to a range of organisations connected to faming and Ihe local communty including the local school, young famiers organisation. scouts, group, and the charity Papyrus {for young suicide prevention). Section E Financial review A worst-case scenario would be a last-minute ¢ancellation due to flooded or storn damaged site. This could easily have occurred in 2024 when a brief but violent stomi hit the day before the show which destroyed several marquees and 8xhibilion tents, but locals. fam*rn. suppliers and volunteers pulled together to salvage the remaining terrts and reorganise the show field so that the event could happen the next day. Such a situation would create a signfficant loss, possibly as high as £50,000 or more, due to fixed expenditure commrtments. Due to these considerations, it is felt reserves sufficient to cover a minimum of at least 2 to 3 years of such losses should be retained (i.e. Around £125,000).
