TRUSTEES' REPORT for the Year Ended 30 June 2024
The trustees present their report with the financial statements of the charity for the year ended 30 June 2024. The trustees have adopted the provisions of Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019).
OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES Objectives and aims
The Mission of Hope (Registered Charity 1155408) - Annual Report July 2023-June 2024
The geographical focus of the charity remains Ethiopia. Sr M Joachim and a group of volunteers aim to provide housing, basic healthcare and education to destitute women and their children in a rural part of south-east Ethiopia. These women often have a history of prostitution due to the absence of any prospects for employment, and many are infected with HIV-AIDS. Some of their children are, likewise, infected. Due to very limited social, educational and medical care in this part of Ethiopia, these women and their children have no-one to care for them. Much of this work is done via the work of The Mission of Hope.
The armed conflicts in Tigray and Somalia, along with the general global financial climate are causing additional local economic hardships in the area that the Mission of Hope serves, and the charity's expenditure in Ethiopia has therefore been affected. However, due to donors' generosity, Sr Joachim and her volunteers continue to provide support to the local people. This includes the following:
" Pastoral, practical, and healthcare provision for approximately 30 women.
" Education of 35 pupils, aged 3-13.
" Provision of a floating water pump to secure the provision of water for those supported by the Mission and its volunteers.
" Medical and personal care and basic convalescence for ill adults in the local community who otherwise would be left to fend for themselves on the streets.
" Medical evacuation of seriously ill people (adults and infants) for treatment/ surgery in Addis Ababa.
" Continuation of the training programme for the women of The Mission in weaving to provide them with a bona fide way of earning money. This includes identifying routes by which we can sell their products.
" Ongoing progress to develop The Mission's kitchen garden, including irrigation projects, to increase the sustainability of our work.
sustainability of our work.

I report to the charity trustees on my examination of the accounts of The Mission of Hope (the Trust) for the year ended 30 June 2024.
Responsibilities and basis of report
As the charity trustees of the Trust you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 ('the Act').
I report in respect of my examination of the Trust's accounts carried out under Section 145 of the Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under Section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
Independent examiner's statement
I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:
-
accounting records were not kept in respect of the Trust as required by Section 130 of the Act; or
-
the accounts do not accord with those records; or
-
the accounts do not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a true and fair view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
