As explained more fully in the Trustees, responsibilities statement, the Trustees are responsible for the
prepai2tion of the financial slalemenls which give a true and fair view, and for such internal control as the
Trustees determine is neGessary to enable the preparation ol financial slalemenls that are free from material
misstalemenl, whether due lo fraud or error.
In preparir)g the financial statements, the Trustees are responsible for assessing the Charitys ability lo continue
as a going concern, disclosing, as applicable, matters related to going concern and using the going concern
basis of accounting unless the Trustees either intend lo liquidate the Charity or lo cease operations, or have no
realistic alternative bul lo do so.

Auditorfs responslbilltles for the audit of the financial statements
We have been appointed as auditor under section 144 of the Charities Act 2011 and report in accordance wth
the Act and relevant iegulalions made or having effect thereunder.
Our objectives are lo obtain reasonable assurance about whether the financial slalemenls as a whole ale free
from material misslalemenl, whether due lo fraud or error, and lo issue an Auditor's report that in¢lu(ies our
opinion. Reasonable assurance is a high level of assurance, bul is not a guarantee that an audit conducted in
accordance with ISAS (UK) will always ¢Jelecl a malersal misslalement when il exist5. Misslalemenls can arise
from fraud or error and are considered material rf, individually or in the aggregate, they could reasonably be
expected lo influence the economic decisions of users taken on the basis of these financial stslemenls.
Irregularities. including fraud. are instances of non-compliance with laws and regulations. We design procedures
in line with our responsibilities, outlined above, to delecl material misslalemenls in respect of irregularities,
including fraud. The extent lo which our procedures are capable of delecling irregularities, including fraud is
detailed below..
Capability of Ihe audi( in detecting irregularilies, Including fraud
Based on our undersianding of the Charity and the sector as a whole, and through discussion with the Trustees
and other management las required by auditing slandardsl, we idenlrfied that the principal risks of non-
compliance with laws and regulations related lo health and safely, anti-bribery and employment law. We
considered the exlenl to which non-compliance might have a material effect on the financial slalements. We also
considered those laws and regulations thal have a direct impact on the preparation of the financi81 statements
such as the Charities SORP IFRS 1021 Second Edition Ireleased October 20191 and other relevant charity
legislation. We Communicated identified laws and regulations throughout our team and remained alert lo any
indications of non-compliance throughout the audit. We evaluated Trustees. and management's in￿ntiveS and
opportunities for fraudulent manipu121ion of the financial statements (including the risk of override of controls)
and determined that Ihe principal risks related to.. posting inappropriate joumal entries lo increase revenue or
reduce experbdilure., and management bias in accotjnling eslimales and judgemenlal areas of the financial
slalemenls. Audit procèdures performed by the engagement team included..
Discussions with management and assessment of known or suspected instan¢es of non-compliance with laws
and regulations (including health and safely) and fraud,. and
Assessment of identified fraud risk factors,. and
Review of cash expendiluie lo confirm no evidence of personal benefit., and
Challenging assumptions and judgements made by management in ils significant accountin9 eslimales., and
Performing analytical procedures to identify any unusual or unexpected re5alionships, including lelated paty
Iransaclions, that may indic8te risks of malerial misstalemenl due lo fraud., and
Confirmation of related parties with management, and review of transactions throughout the period to identify
any previously undisclosed transactions with related parties outside the normal course of business,. and
Reading minutes of meetings of those charged with governance", and
Physical inspection of tangible assets Su$￿pIlb1e to fraud or irregularity,. and
Review of significant and unusual transactions,. and
Identifying and lesling journal entries, in particular any manual entries made al the year end for financial
stslemenl prepaTalion.
Because of the inherent limitations of an audit, there is a risk that we ¥MII not delecl all irregularities, including
those leading lo a material misslalemenl in the financial slalemenls or non-compliance with regulation. This risk
increases the more that compliance wFlh a law or regulation is removed from the events and Iransactions
refiecled in the financial slatemenls, as we will be less likely lo become awaro of instances of non-compliance.
The risk is also greater regarding irregularities occurring due lo fraud ralhei than error, as fraud involves
intentional concealment. forgery, collusion. omission or mi5representalion.
Page 12

Age UK Sheppey CIO
Independent auditorfs report to the Members of Age UK Sheppey CIO IGontlnugdl
As parl of an audit in accordance Mth ISAS {UKI, we exercise professional judgment and maintain professiorial
sceplicism throughout the audit. We al$o.-
Identify and assess the risks of material misstatement of the financial 5talemenls, whelhor due to fraud or
error, design and perform audit procedures responsive to those risks, and obtsin audit evidence that Is
sufficient ancl appropriate to provide a basis for our opinion. The risk of rpol delecling a material
misstalemenl resulting from fraud is higher than for one resulting from error. as fraud may involve
collusion, forgery, intentional omissions, misrepresentations, or the override i)f internal control.
Obtain an understanding of internal control relevant lo the audit in order lo design audit procedures that
are appropriate in the CirC￿M5t8nCes, bLtI not for the purpose of expressing an opinion of the effectiveness
of the Charity's internal control.
Evalvale the appropriateness of accounting policies used and the reasonableness of accounting
eslimales and related disclosures made by the Tr4Jslees.
Conclude Dn the 8pproprialeness of the Trustees, use of the going concern basis of accounting and,
based on the audit evidence obtained, whether a material uncertainly exists relaled lo events or conditions
that may c8s1 signrficanl doubl on the Charity's ability lo continue as a going concern. If we conclude that a
material uncertainty exists, we are required lo draw 811ention in my Auditor's report to the rel8led
disclosures in the financial statements or, rf such disclosures are inad8quale, lo modify our opinion. Our
conclusions are based on the audit evidence obtained up to the dale of my Auditor's report. However,
future events or conditions may cause the Charity lo cease lo continue as a going concern.
Evaluate the overall presentation, structure and content of the financial slalemenls, including the
disclosures, and whether the financial statements represent the underlwng transactions and events in a
manner that achieves fair presentation.
We communicate with those charged with governance regarding, among other matters, the planned scope and
liming of the audit and signrficant audit findings, including any significant deficiencies in internal control that we
identify during our audit.
Use of our report
This report is made solely lo the Chariws Trustee5, as a body, in accordance with P8rl 4 of the Charilies
(Accounts anii Reporlsl RegulalioTrs 2008. Our audit work has been undertaken so that we might slate lo the
Charitys Trustees those matters we are req¥Jired lo slate to them in an Audilorts report and for no other purpose.
To the fullest exlenl permilled by law, we do not 8ccepl or assume responsibility lo anyone other than the Charity
