Over the course of this accounting period, Constella OperaBallel has addressed the
(*dlew pffesented by the Covid pandemic by launching ils Connecting Slars project.
re(xYding a Christrnas Gala ￿rfO￿lanCe and developing ils first ever fully digital products.on
Der6￿Trt Valley World Heritage Site. This has been achieved by working with a very small

Based on the suctsss of the pilol, Constella launched a national PR campaign in June 2020
th coverage ind. BBC Radm) and The Stage. The project gained patronage from Sir Willard
White and raised ow £6,000 via crobwjfunding, enabling the company to initiate the
C￿neC￿n9 Stars project. After the initial crowdfunding campaign, Constella Su￿SsfUllY
aF￿l￿d for a grnnt of £14.960 Council England.
This grant allow&1 not only to continue delivering perforrnances and increasifYJ Ihe number
of artists and care homes, but also gave Constella the opportunty to undertake some
researth to assess the lorrfJevity of the project. This resulted in the follthviTrJ:

At the end of this accounting year, Constella's artists gave over 200 interactive
perfomances to 3.000 care home residents nalionwide. This led us to be highlighted by
Grarnphone Magazine as "one of the inspiring orgarXsatic￿S Wxng music alive in 2021r.
more ambitious grant for £56.954 with Arts Council England. This would allow not just
continue Ihe proiecl Iwl to expand but the number of care homes and Wxlen Ihe K¥ster of
artists involved. Unfortunately. we were not successful in Marth 2021 and Connecting Stsrs
had to L* iemFK)rarily halted due to a lack of funding.

resln'ctions in Spring 2021. With unrelenting enthusiasffl and creative approaches to
cofiaixxation. Constella brwht tcgether several hundred local people as active participants
in the creation and performance of operatic work. After several months of intense and most
virtual parts"cipatM)n, seven films were premiered on May 8th 2021 in landem the display
of a giant threads of iKJnting made by the community lo (yeatively advertise the digital
content. The film premiere was viewed by over 500 people and each of the 7 films has been
viffi￿d by an average of 150 on ￿th Conslella's and the Derwenl Vallels y{￿TUbe
accounts, therefore totally nearly 3,0(M) audience views across all videos, which continues to
in(xease.

The main fotsjs of Constella OperaBallet in this pandemic hit year was to make ts idea
reaching out to care home residents vthile prowding incnme for performing artists a reality.
The company is immensely proud to have been able to establish a meaningful project durkng
this pandemic hit year aThJ C(x7ne(Xing Stafs has managed to give m(Ke than 2110 live,
unique and personal perfomlances reaching 3.000 care home residents.
We also delivered iwo special Performan￿ where Constella arbsts perfO￿n￿ live to
mutb.ple care homes of the Borough of Westrninsler. Kensington and Chelsea via Zo(*n at
the same W(Kld Dementia Day in September 2020 and Christrnas in December.
These were greauy appreciated by the care homes and were aiso attended by some of thé
counalk)rs.

crowdfunding campaign and oblaining 2 significant grants of £14.960 in September 2020
arKJ £56.954 in August 2021 by kn Coun(il ErwJland. The o)mpany also ger￿TrIed inccrfne
through ticket sales of the Christrnas Gala virtual production to the wider public. Meanvthile
the ￿rnPany also received fee income for its Spin-A-Tale mJu¢tion.

The company is wothng on a number of different projects. One of Ihe fflain obj'ectives will be
to seDJre the fijture of C(Mne(Aing Slars so it becomes a ttrmanenl cx)rnmunty engage1r￿t
projecl with regular funding sources. In addition, the scope of Conn8c&ng Stars is being
expand&d by provKling trainir¥J and perf(xrning OP[￿unitieS lo young artbsts.
With live performance gradually rebjming lo nom￿1 the company also aims tr> develop new
material and productions based on researd) and development that I￿k place in previc
years.
THE ORCHESTRAS OF AUSCHWITZ
An opera-ballel production that memori81ises Ihe Jewish musicians irnpfisoned in Aus(*Milz-
Birkenau who were forced to play each day a5 slave labour (x)mmandos sel off lo and
retltrmed IrcKn their work. As well as music written in the camp iL%elf, elements of the score
will indude an cxNJinal CoM￿s1b.0￿ in of Sir Martin GilberL renowned Hol(xxust
historian. A premiere Pf(xluction of the Genesis piece of the production was very well
received al the Highgate Shul London in September 2017. The production might be induded
in a EK)tentr"al television documentary. focussing on Ihe current life of Hdocaust survivors. It
is hoped that performances will tour acfOSS Ihe UK and abroad in the future.
LONDON PORTRAITS
Following the initial CAynm￿l(￿ and prerniwe of Geyerfs Sunset in GTry for the Lan(wt
Jazz Festival, Constella is developing opportunilies for performance of Geyerfs full London
Portraits cyde vlith the view to creaie captivaling and bite-slzed opera-ballet Vignettes to be
d￿seMinated dwitally.
CONSTELLA SPACE
In response to the exodus of high street businesses, Constella is developing opp(xtunilies to
reimagine one suth space as a unique venue for live Ferf￿ManCe and partiiipatory aclivity.

GOING CONCERN
Despite the limitats'ons. as a result of the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, the crowdfunding
carnpa￿n and tunding receNed frrKn Arts C(WFKiI ETvJland lor the Connecting Star5 project
have enabled Constella lo continue lo operale and provide work lo many of the freelance
artists Ihe cJNnpany re9ulady engages on other productions. After making appropriate
ewutries. the Iruslees have a reasonable expectation that Ihe charity has adequate
resour￿ to (xintsnue in operational existence for the foreseeable future. For this reason.
they I￿￿nUe to adopt the goiro c4￿CeM ba￿S in preparing Ihe financial staternents. Further
details ￿gardir$g the adoption of the going concem basis can be found in the Accounting
Poli(ies.
FINANCIAL POSITION AT THE END OF THE PERIOD ENDED 31 IAARCH 2020
Constella made 8 small surplus of £3.043 this aC￿Unting year. the cash balanc£ has
benefited from the in(x)me r￿e1ved from DVWHS only being a(zounted for. to Ihe anKJunt of
work already carried out and Ix)sts in￿j￿ed. The balance of £2.376 has been arxounted for
as deferTed income.
RESERVES POUCY
The reserves shown are small, but the overheads of the charity are equally small and
projects are only undertaken when funding is identified and confimied. The Trustees are
o)mmitted to in(xeasirvJ reserves going forward.
Between the ￿ of the finan(aal perKMJ and the tirne of signing the charity has signifi(3nty
improved its financial position thanks lo the grant received from Arts Council England for its
Connecting sta￿ projed.
The reserves at 31" March 2021 are £2.538. compared to a deficit of £506 al 31° March
2(120.

The finanaal statements have been p￿pared under the historical cost convention
