The orchestra has clear guidelines regarding the conduct of meetings, selection of officers, managing the accounts and the procedures for recruiting players and planning charity concerts. These guidelines, agreed by the trustees and regularly reviewed, are included in the induction of all new trustees. The trustees have a policy of maintaining a reserve fund to mitigate any financial risks. In planning our activities, the trustees kept in mind the Charity Commissions guidance on public benefit at our meetings. The focus of our activities is to promote the art and science of music through participation in and presentation of public charity concert performances. Donations by the European Doctors Orchestra are made from concert proceeds to a specific charity who participates in the planning and organisation of that concert. **Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)** **TAR** 3 May 2023 ## **Additional details of objectives and activities (Optional information)** The Orchestra could not function without the enthusiastic support of the players who participate in our weekends of music, practise and perform in the charity concerts. The European Doctors Orchestra registered as a foundation CIO in November 2013. The Trustees intend to organise two charity concerts each year, usually in November and May/June inviting players from across Europe to participate. We were planning concerts in Olomouc, Czech Republic and Glasgow in 2019-2020. However, these concerts had to be cancelled because of the Covid-19 pandemic. The Olomouc concert subsequently took place in June 2022. The Orchestra was invited to participate in the Nantes La Folle Journée festival in January 2022, however, as in the previous year the Covid pandemic forced the EDO to cancel its participation again. The trustees took the view that assembling an orchestra of doctor players from several different countries was impractical and ill-advised. Recruitment had started for the orchestra for Nantes, therefore after cancellation, those registration fees that had already been paid required refunding. A full programme of three concerts was planned for the 2022/23 year in the UK, France and Germany. Attendees made **during the year** voluntary donations to the charity Help Musicians. Such donations did not go through EDO accounts, although the professional musicians who gave the seminars were paid from EDO funds. EDO was able to give a successful concert in Olomouc, Czech Republic during the year. A donation was made from ticket sales of £3,517.01 to health care charity in the Czech Republic. **TAR** 6 May 2023 ## **Section E Financial review** The charity has reviewed its reserves policy and now intends to maintain **Brief statement of the** a reserve of up to £40,000. The reserves are required in any case to enable the Orchestra to fund advance deposits for venue hire etc. before funds for a particular event are received. It has also proved essential to mitigate losses should a concert weekend fail to take place due to factors outside our control. The charity held bank funds of £37,450 on 31[st] July 2021. ## **Details of any funds materially in deficit** ## **Further financial review details (Optional information)** The receipts and payments accounts for the year show net receipts of £17,492 and cash funds at this year-end of £30,421. You **may choose** to include additional information, where relevant about: During this financial period, 2021 to 2022, payments of £7,727.70 were made for the next concert planned for London in October 2022. - the charity’s principal sources of funds (including any fundraising); - Players that participate in a concert normally pay a registration fee and - • how expenditure has fund their own individual travel and accommodation expenses. This covers most of the cost of the charity; of hiring venues, music, large instrument hire, etc. and paying a professional conductor and soloists.
