Trustees Annual Report

The Trustees present their report and annual accounts of the Charity for the year ended 31 December 2023.

Objectives and aims

Monmouth Music Theatre (MMT) objectives, as outlined in its constitution, are to educate the public in the dramatic and operatic arts, and to further the development of public appreciation and taste in the said arts.

The Society’s aim is to perform at least one musical theatre production each year with live musical accompaniment, costumes, scenery, sound and lighting.

Achievements

Government restrictions on social gatherings and other normal activities finally eased in 2023 allowing the resumption of normal Society activities.

“Evita” in spring was a great success, very well attended by large audiences and much acclaimed.

“The Pirates of Penzance” in Autumn was likewise a very successful production.

Fundraising was aided by a coffee morning and a quiz night, these events also succeeding in fostering the togetherness of the Society but also in involving the local community. Some members are also contributing via purchases from Amazon and other retailers, raising money via Amazon Core and Easy fundraising. These contributions help to keep membership fees to an affordable level.

Thus the Society was able to achieve its aims in 2023.

Financial review

The Charity achieved a net gain of £2,029 for the year ended 31 December 2023. In 2022 the net gain was £3,219.

The Spring 2024 production is to be “My Fair Lady”, and work has been going on from Autumn 2023 towards this production.

At the year end the Charity had unrestricted funds of £19,156 (the 2022 figure was £17,127).

Any surplus assets are invested in interest bearing cash balances and the Trustees seek to maintain reserves adequate to finance the Charity’s activities.
