MIGRANT CHILDREN'S FOUNDATION
REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES FOR THE YEAR ENDED 30TH APRIL 2024
The trustees who are also directors of the charity for the purposes of the Companies Act 2006, present their report with the financial statements of the charity for the year ended 30th April 2024. The trustees have adopted the provisions of Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019).
OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
Objectives and aims
The Migrant Children's Foundation (MCF) is a non-profit, non-political and non-religious organisation whose sole aim is to enrich and develop the lives and education of disadvantaged children. The organisation is staffed by a dedicated team of long-term volunteers who organise and manage MCF events and programs, and maintain relationships with schools and parents.
Dental Care
The dental care continues and since last year over 200 children received dental check-ups.
The Volunteer Program
This program ensures that any potential volunteer goes through the process of an interview and a probation period to evaluate the volunteer's suitability.
Fun With Science
This program is presently under review.
Health Checkups
MCF Health Check-up Program is still ongoing. This year we were able to cater for over 260 children to receive health check-ups.
School Outings
A number of outings have been organised and acted upon such as tree planting on Earth Day, Mexican Independence Day at the embassy and international school fun days to name a few.
Glasses Galore
This program is back up and running and over 100 children were examined of which over 50 children were provided with glasses.
Secret Santa
This past Christmas saw the distribution of over 1500 Christmas gifts for the children from various schools.
Internship Opportunity
This year MCF was able to provide internships for a number of both international and MCF school students. Also, MCF worked in conjunction with UNICEF to provide the migrant students opportunities to work with other interns on UNICEF projects.

OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
Future Thinkers
This is an ongoing program. FT is a joint project between MCF and the ArkA architectural company that aims to harness migrant students' potential for design through mentorship, learning and teamwork. It is a program designed to encourage and inspire the migrant students to work together with international students, to create a space conducive for learning for underprivileged students. By working together, MCF and ArkA aim to bring a new opportunity for the students annually, with the goal of:
-
Contributing to the community by building a reading space for its students.
-
Sharing principles of architecture and design with the students.
-
Fostering cooperation, social skills, creative thinking and teamwork among the participants.
-
Contributing to the implementation of international schools' CAS/IB program.
-
Further developing confidence and skills in MCF and international students alike.
Sponsoring students into higher education
This year for the first time, MCF has joined with an international school to sponsor higher education for those students that have difficulty to continue their education due to various restrictions. This year Li Xiao Qing, a student who MCF has been responsible for through her primary and secondary education school in terms of development and fees, enrolled her in one of the international school so she has the opportunity to continue with her studies and go to university.
MCF IMPROV Program
MCF IMPROV started last year. The program is designed to encourage young people to think on their feet and improvise through adaptation and spontaneous thinking. It will also give the children the opportunity to develop the above-mentioned skills in a fun and interactive way.
So far over 70 students took part in the program and it has proved to be a very successful. We propose continuing this program in the current year.
ACHIEVEMENT AND PERFORMANCE
Charitable activities
As detailed above, MCF has continued with a number of its core activities, and it is going from strength to strength. This is a reflection on the determination the organisation has to continue providing services to create opportunities for those less fortunate than ourselves.
FINANCIAL REVIEW
Financial position
The foundation undertakes commitments that are tailored to our resources. It does not speculate on donations that may or may not be received but works according to our budget. This also applies to our volunteers who are not paid but vetted for suitability and are hand chosen for various undertakings.
STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT
Governing document
We are a small organisation which works on a purely voluntary basis which means we have a fluid structure to be able to cater to the potential changes in personnel when people relocate.
Plans for the future
MCF is continuously searching for ways to develop children's creativity, imagination and their communication skills in terms of both speaking and listening and future vocational development. Also, after the experience of the pandemic, the ability to accept and adapt to a particular situation is an important skill for children to develop. With the growth of globalisation across numerous industries, MCF hopes to bring cultural activities and experiences for children in the UK, to develop their understanding of cultural differences and adaptation in the near future. MCF will achieve this through creating stronger bonds and collaborations with international schools in China and schools in the UK.

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe:
-

-
the accounts do not accord with those records; or
-
the accounts do not comply with the accounting requirements of Section 396 of the 2006 Act other than any requirement that the accounts give a true and fair view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination; or
-
the accounts have not been prepared in accordance with the methods and principles of the Statement of Recommended Practice for accounting and reporting by charities (applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102)).
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
