2021-2022
INTERNATIONAL COMMITTEE FOR REHABILITATION AID TO AFGHANISTAN (ICRAA)
ICRAA ANNUAL REPORT
Our Chairman’s Message
After two years of the COVID-19 pandemic, 2021 has been yet another challenging year for Afghanistan and the United Kingdom. On August 15th, 2021, the Taliban took power in Afghanistan, leading to emergency evacuation and leaving many people displaced. Due to the change in power, many activities in Afghanistan came to a complete haul. However, ICRAA could maintain its nursery with our determined team on the ground.
Due to limited reach in Afghanistan and as a security precaution, ICRAA avoided implementing new projects in the area. But instead we diverged our attention to the Afghan Refugees entering the UK and the needy families in our local community in Leeds.
Our 2021-2022 Annual Report showcases ICRAA’s focus on reaching beneficiaries in the local community i.e. in Leeds city. ICRAA has partnered with Neighbourly, a giving platform that has helped us connect with local shops and organisations to receive nonperishable foods, fresh fruits and other sanitary and household items. ICRAA was then able to continuously distribute nutritious food and supplies to approximately 60 families in Leeds this year. We hope to continue this work in the years to come.
Regarding outreach for the people of Afghanistan, ICRAA requested support from MPs to promote humanitarian aid so that the needy peoples’ health and wellbeing are fulfilled. We also contacted organisations to support this humanitarian cause. We also participated in the Charity Commission meetings to help us be more educated about operating internationally, especially in risk countries like Afghanistan.
In the past year, Afghanistan has faced numerous natural disasters, such as the horrific earthquakes in Paktiya province, as well as the flash floods and landslides affecting several areas in the eastern, central, southern and western regions. In light of these deadly events, ICRAA has spread the news and fundraised for emergency relief. We will continue the efforts to assist these displaced people with the support they need to rebuild their homes and provide basic requirements in the meantime.
Thank you,
Dr Sanaulhaq Ahmadzai Chairman and Trustee ICRAA
