5. Trustees Annual Report November 2021
Once again 2021 proved a stop start year due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Even when schools returned in September delivery of schools impacted by “bubbles” bursting. Once again we were able to take advantage of the Government Furlough scheme for these days, ensuring we ended the year with enough reserves to ensure funding for our development work for 2022. It would seem that some semblance of normality is now appearing as the pandemic comes under control.
Once again, despite the challenges of 2021 there are many fine achievements to report:
5.1 Rugby Development
Michael engaged with 9 schools delivering over 384 hours of classes to children. This equated to over 9,000 i nteractions with children giving them an introduction to rugby league and the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.
Match day curtain raisers at Hunslet RLFC were curtailed in 2021 due to RFL Covid protocols. However, a successful event was staged at the game with Keighley Cougars in July. Four local junior clubs participated in a mini tournament, which saw engagement with 200 youngsters and parents.
5.2 Other Sports
Unfortunately, the 2021 Bah Humbug 10k was cancelled this year due to the lockdown restrictions. Nevertheless, the Foundation, in conjunction with Hunslet RLFC held 2 running

events. The “Hunslet Handicap” is now an annual event and sees members of the South Leeds Lakers Running Club compete in a 5k challenge before watching a game. The Lakers Junior Section were also invited down to take advantage of the facilities at the stadium before getting their introduction to rugby league.
We continue to provide volunteers for the Cross Flatts Parkrun every Saturday morning and the junior event on the Sunday.
5.3 Heritage
The Heritage certificates have once again proved popular throughout the year and remain a great way of re-engaging players of yesteryear with the Club.

5.4 Social Inclusion
The Breakfast Club has return after lockdown and numbers are higher than ever. Once again, we are seeing ex-players reconnect with the Hunslet RLFC and are now starting to attend on match days.
5.5 Citizenship
We continually promote the benefits to others of “getting involved”. Everybody has something to give and activities run by the Foundation allow people to not only get involved but express their (sometimes hidden) talents.
We see this as a big part of the Foundation’s work and will continue to grow our volunteer base in 2022.

6. 2022 Outlook
We go into 2022 with much optimism. Hopefully the pandemic now seems to be under control and a sense of normality is returning. The Foundation has made many new contacts in the last 12 months and the ideas and plans which have been formulating can now come to fruition.
The schools programme “order book” is in good position and we look forward to improving on the levels of engagement we achieved in 2019.
We survived the last 2 years, now we are ready to thrive.
