KENT CRICKET HERITAGE TRUST

Charity 1154556

CHAIRMANS REPORT 20121/2022

The two years of the pandemic have forced us to address several issues which have become ever more pressing.

Because we have not been allowed access to the Woolley Stand, we have not been able to do nearly as much work on the cataloguing and sorting of other collections as we would have liked.

We have not been able to do anything to give extra protection to the collection while the Woolley stand was getting its facelift, but we understand that everything has come through unharmed.

Furthermore, it is now extremely unlikely that we'll be able to use the committee room, in the Woolley Stand, either for storing archives or for working on the collections. This means we have immediately to look for a suitable place to work, and longer term for a permanent home for our collections and archives fortunately the camp county club fully supported of the aims of the Heritage Trust and are working with us to find a solution or two

Curator Caroline Ellis has indicated that she wishes to step back from the roll of Hon Curator but will still be available to act as our curatorial adviser, hope helping to set strategic goals and opening doors to suitable technical and financial help.

The Kent “150 your 150” display online and in the Lime tree /Oriole Cafe has continued and there still are other plans to celebrate now very belatedly our 150th anniversary. The Lime tree Oriel Cafe has been very supportive of work and over the next few weeks will host a one man play “Jack's Ashes” and a quiz to help the raise funds for the Trust.

Howard Milton continues to produce “Inside Edge” our quarterly newsletter and the book “Kent County Cricket Grounds” which he and Peter Francis produced to celebrate the Club's 150th anniversary and has continued to sell well despite the lockdown.

Incidentally if you not been receiving “Inside Edge “which we believe is the case with a small minority remembers, please let us know so we can ensure that you get your online copy of this very interesting publication.

We have had two major additions to our collections over the past year, a collection of photographs by our late former official photographer Tom Morris, and a photo album and memorabilia from the late Celia Robinson Kenton, opening bat the 1940s and 50s. Both these collections fill holes in our archive, especially on Kent cricket in the 1980s and women's cricket. We are particularly grateful to Charlton FC for the Tom Morris photos, and to the Robertson family for Cecilia’s albums and memorabilia for cricket days, including her Kent cap.

Our relationship with the Club remains excellent with the club's chief executive Simon Storey very supportive member of the trust committee. We continue to be very grateful to the club for their support. We are in discussions to work far more closely with the king cricket

Community Trust, headed by Andy Griffiths, and we hope to have more information on this development in the near future.

Financially as you see from the accounts, we're still in a strong position. Membership numbers have not increased more significantly decreased over the year, remaining it about 120 members, most of whom make their annual donations via direct debit. A quick please to all members, it we very helpful for donations can be made by direct debit as this simplifies matter for on former treasurer and indeed for the payee.

Finally, I would like to thank my fellow committee members for their great efforts over the past year under very difficult circumstances especially I would like to pay tribute to David Robertson, who after many years of superb services to the club as curator and more years as secretary of the KC HT is stepping down. I'm very pleased to say that he is remaining on our committee, so we're not saying complete goodbye, but it would be very wrong with me not to acknowledge this immense contribution to the heritage of Kent cricket at this time. Many thanks David.
