The Trustees of the Yorkshire Retina Society. also known as YRS. present their report for the period ended 31st
December 2023. The Trustees have adopted the provisions of the A¢¢ounling and Reporting by Charrties".
Statement of Recommended Practsce applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance ￿rith the
Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland IFRS 1021 leffective 1 January 20151.
The Trustees have also had regard to the Charity Commission's Public benefit requirement statutory guidance.
The Yorkshire Retina Society is a charrtable incor￿rated organisat￿n e5tsblished by a wrrtten ¢onslilution and
registered with the Charity Commission. No.1154387.

Objectiv•$, Oryanisation and Activities
The objectives of the charity are to advance the education of the public in ophthalmology and as50cialed medical
sciences and lo advance kno￿edge and understanding of clinical and practs.cal ophthalmology, particularly
relating lo the retina, through educational events. The charity also aims to encourage and support research into
the prevalence. risk factors and treatment of retinal diseases for the public benefrt. In the year ending 2023. YRS
hosted tsvo scientific meetings.. a SLbmmer meetsn9 in Sheffield and a wnler meeting in Yolk.
The charity is organised as an independent association of people interested in furthering the object5 of the
charity. 11 has a board ol trustees, and these trustees are listed on page one. Regarding the requirement lo
provide benefit lo the public, YRS is al the forefront of promoting education in medical retina and excellence in
clinical care.
R•s•rves
The trustees regularly review the ¢hority'S level of reserves held against expected expenditure. The reserve 1$
salisfacltsry for ils current level of activity. The charity has not acb.vely fundraised wlhin this financial year. The
trustees believe that the level of reserves held is adequale.
During the accounting period of 2022 Nthereby, the trustees took the decision lo offer discounted delegate rates
to encourage attendance. This approach was felt to have been succèssful and the Trustees agreed to continue
the discounted delegate rate for both meetings in 2023.
Rlsk management
The Trustees have reviewed the risks lo vthich the ¢hartty is exposed and have ensured appropriate controls are
in place to provide reaSona￿e assurance against fraud and error.
The attached financial slalemenls show the current slate of the finan¢es. which the trustee5 consider lo be
sound. The sources of income are sponsorship by trade companies. membership fees and meeting registration
fees. The charity does not fundraise from the public. The charitys bankers are the HSBC Bank.

The Trustee5 are required to prepare financial statements for each financi81 year which give a true and fair view
()f the stale of affairs of the charity and of the sury)lus or deficrt for that period. In preparing those financial
stslements the committee are required to."

This report is made solely to the charitys Trustees, as a body, in accordance wth Part 4 of the Charities
(Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008. My I￿rk has been undertaken so that I might slate to the charity's

RESPONSIBILITIES AND BASIS OF REPORT
As the Trustees of the charity you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the
requirements of the Charities Act 2011 Ilhe 2011 Act'l.
I report in respect of my examin*ion of Ihe ¢harity'$ accounts carried out under se¢tr'on 145 of the 2011 Act and
in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Comrnission
under section 14515)Ib) of the 2011 Act.

1.1 Basis of preparation of financial statements

The financial statements have been prepared in accordance wth the Charities SORP IFRS 1021
'Accounting and Reporting by Charits"es". Statement of Recommended Practice applicable lo charities
preparing their accounts in accordance wth the Financ*1 Reporb"ng Standard applicable in the UK
and Republic of Ireland IFRS 1021 leffecb.ve 1 January 20191,. Financial Reporting Stsndard 102
'The Financial Reporting Stsndard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland, and the Companies
Act 2006. The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention.
Income
Income represents members subscriptions. meekn.ng income. donations and appeals, and other
income receivable during the year.
Expgnditurg
Meeting Expenses refers lo venue hire costs, catering costs. speaker expenses and audiovisual
support.
Admin, Postage and Stationery include secretarial Support costs for membership a¢livilies and
meeb'n9 SUPPOrt throughout the year.
