Annual Report: International Gay Rugby (April 2024 - February 2025)
The past year has been a remarkable period for International Gay Rugby (IGR), marked by significant events and milestones that have furthered our mission of promoting inclusivity and diversity in the sport of rugby.
In May 2024, Rome hosted the prestigious Bingham Cup for the first time. This biennial event, celebrating gay and inclusive rugby clubs, saw over 140 teams and 5,000 players from around the world converge in the Italian capital. The tournament, organized by Libera Rugby with the support of the Italian Rugby Federation, was a resounding success, showcasing the spirit of camaraderie and competition that defines IGR. This tournament provided a donation of £14.745.85 to IGR.
Throughout the year, IGR continued to support and promote various local tournaments, fostering a sense of community and belonging among players and supporters. Our efforts have not only raised the profile of inclusive rugby but also inspired countless individuals to embrace the sport and its values. Where new clubs have been created in Italy, Norway, England and America.
We have also been advocating the rights of LGBTQ people to be playing rugby no matter their gender.
We look forward to building on this momentum in the coming year, furthering our commitment to inclusivity and diversity in rugby.
