AGross the '2>,24 financial year York Foodbank received and distributed 74,028kg of donated food %*lth
estimated total value of £205,057 (based on a standard Trussell conversion value of £2.771kg). Almost all of
thls was di8trlbuted to local people through the fulfilrnent of 3356 vouchers representing 5.151 adults and
3,695 children (8,846 indivldual 3-d8y food packages in total). This rapresented a sllght decrease of 2.10/0
in vouchers fulfilled in comparison wlth financial year'22-'23. In spite of this marginal decrease, local need
and referra18 from Foodbank agencies remained dose to the highest levels Witnessed in York in ('22-'23>.
York Foodbank contlnued to offer opanings 8t Distrlbutlon Polnts hosted by local churches coverlng
Monday-saturday acro&8 six locations eath on a different day of the week. YO￿ Foodbank further

6,646 34ay emergency food packages between 2013 and 2024, and we recognise wlth gratitude their
considerable contribution to the work of York Foodbank. We were pleased to welcome St Michael Le
Belfrey Church in establishing a new partnership with York Foodbank to continue our Saturday moming
Distribution Point opening, initially on a trial basis (now successfully completed at time of writing this report).
The Belfrey and York Cty Church oversaw 8 seamless transfer of this important city-centre opening on 3rd
February 2024.
York Vineyard Church continued to be strategically placed to asslst as5rtum seekers residing in a nearby
hotel. and hosted Refugee Action York's drokFin, in conjunction with their Foodbank opening. Although
numbers identified from th8 hotel as needing emergency food support have reduced In '23-'24. the
accessibility of a nearby Foodbank openlng contlnued to provide an important safety net for 8 particularly
vulnerable group.
Trussell'8 Financlal Inclusion Grant provlded fundlng for a second year to continue contracted advice
servlces delivered withln York Foodbank Dlstrlbutlon Points. Thls ensured that the Community Advice
Sen41ce dellvered by Peasholme Charity continued thelr drop-ln generali8t advice Service covering 4
Foodbank Distribution Point locations, which together with follow-on support equated to 30 hours per week.
Peasholme Charlty's annu81 report document8d supporting 282 new people with coincidentally 282

Durlng the '2&,24 Flnanclal Year York Foodbank developed a deeper partnershlp wlth an experlenced York
homelessness prevention charity and key Foodbank Agency called Restore. We awarded Restore a on&off
grant of £111.780 whlch wlll provide capacity for t8n now fully support8d housing places In thre8 new
houses. together with follow on support, covering 8 six-year period. This wlll bolster Restore's capacity from
41 to 51, and recognises also the overfap between Restore residents and York Foodbank clients and our
ongoing work to help people to move towards a brlghter future. Restore offer 1-tO•18UPPOrt to nurture
Independent Ilving skills during a period where safe, secure accommodation Is provlded for an appropriate

accommodatlon. Within Restore, 80./0 of resldents successfully move on to new accommodation, with 680
of residents moving Into Independent, unsupported housing after a period of support from Restor8 (where
Independent living is not approprlat8, we support residents in flnding altemative accommodation options).
Our Taste and See Grft Card scheme provlded for 6580 £6 Gfft Cards which afforded dients the dlgnty of
purchasing £39,480 of food items of their choice from participating local shops (all Coop stores). giving
them access to fresh and frozen food Items whlch the Foodbank cannot provlde dlrectly. Sultable controls In

emergency fuel for our cllenls through lh¥ Fuel Bank Foundatlon, an(J £30,000 io supporL Ihe purGha5e of
food stock for our neighbouring Trussell Foodbank in East Yorkshire.

R•vlow of tho charlty's flnanclal posltlon at the ond of the p•rfod
York Foodbank continues to benefit from generous public. corporate and church giving in 2023-24. Most
areas of giving reduced signfficantly, as was anticipated, in comparison with the increase in giving
witnessed in 2022-23.
York Foodbank's income and expenditure aligned extremely dosely wlth our budget whlch, as 202&24
drew to a condusion would hav8 resulted in a £5,500 surplus. At the point of setting our 2024-25 budget,
York Foodbank Trustees elected to make grant aV￿rdS £50,000 In excess of our 2023-24 budget. Thls
resulted in 8 deficit of £36,760 for the financial year.
In addition to our unrestricted dosing balance, York Foodbank held 15.796kg of food stocks of £43,755
estimated value (based on a standard Trussell conversion value of £2.771kg).
If 202>24 financial giving r8malns at the same level thls Is projected to align dosely to present running
costs.
Statement explalnlng th• pollcy for holdlng r•s•rv•• Statlng why th•y ar• h•ld
The trustees of York Foodbank had prevlously set an alm to have at least 3 months runnlng costs in
reserve. However, due to the present hlght level of referrals and the unknown nature of future demand, the
trustees desire to maintsin a reserve of the equivalent of around 12 months basic running costs. This total
18 currently 881imated to be £210,000 making allowance8 for: advice services.. inflation: incre888d energy
costs and recent increases in Foodbank referrals,. An additional £60,940, estlmated to be sufficient to
purchase 22,OOOkg of 8m8rg8ncy non-p8rlsh8bl8 food, may ba ret81ned and rlng-fenced to safeguard core
food stockg In tha event of reduced food donatlons or a further unantlcipated Sncrea8e In need.
York Foodbank'8 unr88trfct8d re8er488 contlnued to 8xce8d th18 £270,940 total at the 2023-24 Flnanc181
Year End, however, thls is by 8 signlficAntly reduced amount In cornparlson wlth 2022-23. Thls posltion still
pemlts further ongoing conslderation of initiatives whlch will provide long term benefit to local people
experiencing poverty, hardshlp or distress in and around York, andlor emergency provlslons which wlll
offset the wlder Impact of the Increased c08t of Ilvlng for Foodbank clSents In 2024-25 and beyond.
