  1. Objectives and activities Summary of the objects of Charlie's Gift as set out in our 9overning document; 'To relieve the needs of children in Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire dnd Buckin9hamshire who are disadvdntdged through ill-health, bereavement or poverty by the provision or assisting in the provision of 9rants. Charlie's Gift is a Hertf ordshire based charity committed to helping to make a positive impact on the lives of disadvantaged children livin9 Wlthin the geographical area of Hertfordshire, Bedf ordshire and Buckinghamshire, known locally as the Three Counties area. Charlie's Gif t provides f i nancial assistance to local children throu9h the provision of grants of money. The children we support face daily challenges because of health issues, special needs, disability, bereavement or poverty. Trustees Nicole and Jason Fidler f ounded Charlie's Gif t in memory of their young son Charlie. Charlie died suddenly in June 2010, aged just 8 years from Anaphylactic Shock. He was a loving and giving little boy who lived his short but happy life to the full, In the compassionate spirit to which Charlie approached his lif e, our aim as a charity is to lend a f inancial helping hand to children whose lives are touched by adversity, living Wlthin Hertfordshire, Bedf ordshire and 8uckinghomshire. Our hope is that the grants of money will help towards making these children's lives a little happier and a l ittle easier. Children's Community Groups operating Wlthin Hertfordshire, 8edf ordshire or Buckinghamshire, supporting children who are affected by health issues, special needs, disability, bereavement or poverty, are eligible to apply f or a grant f rom Charlie's Gif t. We consider requests for grants, which will be of clear and direct benef it to the children within these groups. Examples may include f unding pieces of equipment (therapeutic, educational or recreational), or help with f unding days out, or memory making experiences. 'Charlie'$ Gift, 39 Cdlett Road, Hèmel Hempstead, Herts HP1 1 HY R8gisteièd Charity 1154058

When planning our charitable activities for the year 2022/23 our Trustees ensured that we worked within the particular charitable purpose under which Charlie's Gif t operates, def ined by the Charities Commission as, 'the relief of those in need, by reason of youth, age, ill-health, disability, f inancial hardship or other disadvanta9e'. In all charity decision making, and when exercising our powers and duties, we had regard for the Charity Commission's guidance on public benef it i.e., that we should operate in accordance with our charitable purposes and be of direct benef it and have a positive impact on the community we are aimin9 to serve. We also had regard for the Charity Commission's additional guidance on carryin9 Out charitable activities, which states that such activities should be undertaken without causing detriment or harm to the public, or 9iving rise to more than incidental personal benef it. Our special thanks go to the f ollowing people and organisations f or their 9enerous monetary contribution to our overall f undraising total f or the year of £30476.41; _ West Herts Golf Club John Lewis PLC Community Matters Leverstock Green Players kotary Club of Hemel Hempstead Hemel Hempstead Town Youth Football Club 8rightwell Aeriols Ltd RCAS An91ing Society Simon Gibson Charitable Trust We also want to thank some individual f undraisers who went above and beyond this year to organise some fabulous events for our charity. 1. Achievements and performance As the previous f inancial year drew to a close, the Trustees of Charlie's Gif t made the important decision going forward to provide grants only to Children's Community Groups in our local area. We made this decision to allow us to reach more children locally than we hove been able to with individual grants, and also to help bridge the gap where there is a lack of funding f rom other sources. Over recent years we have been made acutely aware that local community groups are seriously under-funded and as a collective the Trustees of Charlie's Gif t felt that we could better serve the local community by providing f unding to children's 9roups for essential pieces of mobility, play and technology equipment, in addition to funding lif e-enhancin9 Qctivities such as day trips and memory making experiences. As we entered our new f inancial year, we be9an implementing our new grant making provision in earnest across the Three Counties re9ion, with applications invited in March ond October. In keeping Wlth our charities aims and objectives, eligible groups have needed to show evidence that they provide support f or children who are facing challenges due to one or more of the followin9 reasons.. health issues, special needs, disability, bereavement or poverty. The Trustees of Charlie's Gif t are delighted to report that in the period 202212023 we were able to award seven grants totallin9 £6,136.98. Of the seven 9rants awarded, six of these 9rants were to 9roups, supportin9 children living Wlthin Hertf ordshire, Bedfordshire and Buckinghomshire who are disadvantaged through ill health, bereavement or poverty. In addition to these 6 grants, there was also an outstandin9 9rant poyment made to an individuol child, whom we had committed to support in the previous f inancial period, for school club activities at his Special Needs school. 'Charfie's Gift, 39 Collett Road, Hemel Hempstead, Herts HP1 1HY Regisl818d Charity 1154056

This is of course a notable decrease f rom the number and monetary value of grants awarded in the previous years. However, with each group serving on average 30 plus children, many more children are benef itting f rom our f unding than in the past, when we were solely providing f undin9 to individual children. We anticipate a growth in the volume of grants awarded over the next two years as the new provision gathers momentum. 2016/2017 2017/2018 2018/2019 2019/2020 202012021 2021/2022 202212023 17 rants made 49 rants made 93 rants made 50 rants made 41 rants made 66 rants made rants made £22,180.56 £35,974.42 £53,142.42 £24,415.88 £23,392.65 £27,470.80 £6,136.98 Listed here are all the Groups who benef ited f rom Charlie's Gif t grants this f inancial year, tO9ether with the items f unded. l. Although no of f icial reserves policy currently exists, the Trustees of Charlie's Gift are always mindful in our expenditure that we have suf f icient f unds to cover costs and unforeseen costs involved in setting up and running events. We are also caref ul to ensure that when mokin9 grants our bank balance is in a position to cover this expenditure, and that we always leave a reserve of £5,000 in the account to enable us to help as many children as Possible throughout our f inancial year. Additionally, to prevent our f unds becomin9 overly depleted, the Trustees of Charlie's Gift make sure that we regularly top up our f unds by carrying out fundraisin9 events and activities throughout the year. This has been a challen9e again this year, but we were incredibly fortunate to be able to rally support f rom our wonderf ul community of fundraisers and donators. We have no foreseeable overheads f or the coming year in terms of staf f ing and premises Since all of our trustees are unpaid volunteers. The registered address f rom which we run the charity is the home of two of our trustees, meanin9 there are no rental or utility costs involved. We anticipate continuin9 to operate in this way, meaning there will be minimal running costs once again for the year ahead. As we enter into our Financial Year 2023/2024, the Trustees of Charlie's Gift are optimistic that we will be in a position to fully commit to our charitable aims and objectives for the coming year. Our bank balance currently stands at a healthy £38,170.24, placin9 us in a 9ood position to start a new f inancial year of f undroising and grant-makin9 across Hertf ordshire, Bedfordshire and Buckin9hamshire. In summary, we are extremely proud of how we have performed as a charity in 2022/2023, through the implementation of our new grant- making scheme. As we enter 2023/2024, we look f orward to continuin9 to serve the community, through the provision of grants to some very deserving local children's groups.
