Charlie's Gift is a Hertfordshire based charity committed to helping to make a positive impact on the lives of disadvantaged children living Wlthin the geographical area of Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Buckingh(Nnshire, known locally as the Three Counties area. Charlie's Gift provides f inancial assistance to local chi Idren through the provision of grants of money. The children we support face daily challenges because of health issues, special needs, bereavement or poverty. Trustees Nicole and Jason Fidler founded Charlie's Gift in memory of their young son Charlie. Charlie died suddenly in June 2010, aged just 8 years from Anophylactic Shock. He was a loving and giving little boy who lived his short but happy lif e to the f ull. In the compassionate spirit to which Charlie approached his life, our aim as a charity is to lend o f inancial helpin9 hand to children whose lives are touched by adversity, livin9 Wlthih Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire. Our hope is that the grants of money will help towards making these children's lives a little happier and a little easier. Children up to the age of 18 years, whose main address is in Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire or Buckin9hamshire at the time of application and approval, are eligible for a grant f rom Charlie's Gift. We consider requests for grants, which will be of clear and direct benef it to the child. Examples may include f unding for a specialised piece of equipment (medical, educational or recreational). help with medical treatment costs. or residential trips/days out/f omily holidays etc. 'Charf'S Gwt. 39 Colbètt Road. When planning our charitable activities for the year 2020/21 our Trustees ensured that we worked within the particular charitable purpose under which Charlie's Gift operates. defined by the Charities Commission as, Yhe relief of those in need, by reason of youth. age, ill-health, disability, f inancial hardship or other disadvantage,. In all charity decision making, and when exercising our powers and duties, we had regard for the Charity Commission's guidance on public benef it i.e.. that we should operate in accordance with our charitable purposes and be of direct benef it and have a positive impact on the community we are aiming to serve. We also had regard for the Charity Commission's additional guidance on carrying out choritable activities, which states that such activities should be undertaken without causing detriment or harm to the public. or 9ivin9 rise to more than incidental personal benef it. In 2020/2021 we continued to be impacted by the Coronavirus Pandemic we were unable to carry out our annual f undraisers such as our popular Quiz Night, or had to put them on with much reduced numbers. The Annual Golf Day hosted by West Herts Golf Club was an example of this where we had f ewer than 30 in attendance. We were incredibly grateful to our local ¢ommunity who continued to support us with donations during these challen9in9 times. Our special thanks go to the following people for their get)erous monetary contribution to our overall fundraising total for the year of £31,897.95:_ West Herts Golf Club Berkhamsted Rotory Club Hemel Hempstead Rotary Club The Fisher Charitable Foundation Rance family Brightwell Aerials TK Maxx and Homesense Total £4,628.40 £1.160.00 £200 £500 £850 £500 £500 £8.338.40 We are also incredibly grateful to Simon Fisher of the Li9hting industry, who was instrumental in setting up 'VeloLight 21,, o IOOkm cycle challenge through the Cambridgeshire countryside. L)ue to Covid restrictions it was debateable whether the event would actually be able to take place. but f ortunately with Pandemic precautions in place the cycle ride took place on Sunday 12th September and was a huge fundraising success for our charity. We can't thank all the 65 riders enough for their support and for raising over £16,000 for our charity. 'Cha18'S Grft. 39 Colle# Ro•1. Hemel Hemr6tead, Herts HP11HY Reoislered Charhy 1154058
- Achievements and performance Despite the constraints placed on our fundraisin9 as a result of the continuing Pandemic, we were deli9hted to have still been able to make 41 grants totalling £23.392.65 to children livin9 Within Hertfordshire, Bedf ordshire and Buckinghamshire who are disadvantaged through ill health, bereavement or poverty. This was a slight decrease from the number of children supported in the previous year, but we are very proud that we were able to continue to of fer support to the most disadvantaged children in our local community. 201612017 201712018 201812019 201912020 202012021 17 rants made 49 rants made 93 rants made 50 rants made 41 rants made £22,180.56 £35,974.42 £53,142.42 £24.415.88 £23.392.65 Listed here are all the grants we have made this f inancial year: Item18 Laptop Laptop sensory hu8 sh1rt5

We were also made acutely aware this year that many children were struggling even more due to the effects of the Pandemic, and we saw a rise in applications from Support Workers working Wlth children often in dif f icult family situations. We were keen to assist where we could to relieve some of their specif ic needs, particularly children who were living in poverty, coping Wlth mental health issues (their own or a parent), and also those witnessing f amilial domestic violence. We worked closely with two Agencies,, The Dacorum Community Trust and VISTA St Albans Family Support Service, to help the children in their systems who are affected by financial hardship, bereavement, mental health conditions and domestic violence. We were delighted to be able to f und some essential items for these children such as beds, bedding. school unif orm, counselling/therapies, and school study items, in addition to f undin9 much-needed family activities: all of which will positive impact this particular group of children's emotional and mentol well-being. As well as this, we were hoppy to support a number of local Primary Schools whose pupils are from deprived areas of the Three Counties. The particular assistance we provided was with the funding of school residential trips. Without our support these children would not have been able to attend these wonderful activity breaks away. which are hugely benef icial to the children on many emotional ond social levels. We also continued to work with the Occupational and Physiotherapy teams at local special needs schools such as Booker Park School and The PACE Centre in Buckinghamshire, to support their children with funding f or therapies and disability items. Looking ahead to 2021/2022, our overall aim for the year is to continue to provide grants to as many deserving children as we possibly can within the area we serve. Our main focus will be to continue to concentrate our ef f orts on the provision of 9rants to local disadvantaged chi Idren throu9h developing strong working relationships with local charities, organisations and schools across the Three Counties area. In summary, we are extremely proud of how we have performed as a charity in 202012021 despite another challenging year. We were uncertain at the st¢Jrt of the f inancial year how we would be able to f ulf il our charitable commitments due to the ongoing Covid crisis, but thanks to the support of the Socal community, we were able to raise a fabulous and unexpected £31,897.95. This wonderful sum of money has meant we have been able to continue to make a positive contribution to the lives of disadvantaged children across Herts, Beds and Bucks. We are as ever incredibly gratef ul to our supporters and f undraisers who are vital to the continuing success of Charlie's Gift. rhBrtie's Gift, 39 Collett fi0. Hemel Hemr6tead. A Ithough no of f icial reserves policy currently exists, the Trustees of Charlie's Gift are ttlways mindful in our expenditure that we hove suf f icient f unds to cover costs and unf oreseen costs involved in setting up and running events. We are also careful to ensure that when makin9 grants our bank balance is in a position to cover this expenditure, and that we always leave a reserve of £5,000 in the account to enable us to help as many ch ildren as possible throughout our f inancial year. Additionally, to prevent our funds becoming overly depleted. the Trustees of Charlie's Gift make sure that we regularly top up our funds by carrying out fundraising events ond activities throughout the year. This has been a challenge again this year, but we were incredibly fortunate to be able to rally support from our wonderful community of fundraisers and donators. We have no foreseeable overheads for the coming year in terms of staf f ing and premises since all of our trustees are unpaid volunteers. The registered address from which we run the charity is the home of two of our trustees. meaning there ore no rental or utility costs involved. We anticipate continuing to operate in this way, meaning there will be minimal running Costs once again for the year ahead. As we enter into our Financial Year 2021/2022, the Trustees of Charlie's Gift are optimistic that we will be in a position to f ully commit to our charitable oims and objectives for the coming year. Our bank balance urrently stands at a healthy £23,379.43, placing us in a good position to start a new f inancial year of fundraising and grant-making across Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and 8uckinghamshire.
