EUROSOMA EDUCATION CENTRE

Charity No. 115 379

Annual Report 2022 - 2023

T he Charity was dormant and did not undertake any specific project work in 2022-2023. The biggest reason why this was the case was that we didn't have any funding to support delivery. All of our funding was discontinued and we didn't do anything because of a lack of financial support. There was a lack of interest from beneficiaries who are very poor and didn't have the income available to pay for services. We weren't able to provide free service anymore.

We stopped our supplementary school provision as we were unable to continue to meet the costs of employing the teachers and also we couldn't provide the resources needed to support learning. At its height our supplementary provision was supporting between 30-50 students this dropped to 15 students and at the end this reduced right down to five students. Trustees took the decision at this point to discontinue the service to our local families as we didn't have the income to continue it. We had been providing free educational advice to parents and families, helping them navigate through the mainstream school system, overcoming language barriers which prevented them from being involved in their children's education. Faced by a challenging time trustees choose to make the charity dormant. The hope was that the environment would change with new funding opportunities arising to allow work to be restarted.

They remained hopeful that the hostile environment for charities locally may change with more financial support becoming available to meet growing local need.

As a result the accounts reflected the dormancy of the organisation with no funds incoming or outgoing. If the situation remained difficult to deliver in Trustees discussed closing the charity whilst looking at other ways in which to support the local community.
