Chairman Report
West End Impact (WEI) is based in the West End of Morecambe, Lancashire. This ward is one of the poorest in the country with residents facing many issues. WEI seeks to address as many of those issues as it can with a two-pronged approach which we call Reacting and Rebuilding. The reacting takes the form of meeting the most pressing needs that are presented to us when we first meet people requiring help, the rebuilding comes about as we plan with them (usually in small achievable steps) a way out of their current problems and into a better place. This better place could be somewhere physically, emotionally, mentally or spiritually.
The trustees of West End Impact (WEI) meet usually every 6-8 weeks with the founding managers who run WEI on a day-to-day basis. We also message and email between meetings about numerous items to be considered.
During this report period WEI employed 3 staff and two sessional workers. This year was dominated by COVID, it changed everything for many and WEI faced many new, unimagined challenges. As many other agencies and charities cut back or closed WEI moved most of its activities from being on premise to on-line. Mental Health groups were particularly effective performed in this way as clients faced severe stress due to COVID. WEI also managed to continue to serve sandwiches and foodbank from the door for people to pick up. This also provided the opportunity to physically see (from a social distance) how people were reacting to the crisis and remind them of the help available on-line.
As restrictions eased, WEI were quick to open up advice and guidance again on premise albeit behind screens. The premises were surveyed under the prevailing guidance at the time and adapted to keep staff, visitors and volunteers as risk-free as possible but be able to see those in need and offer help face-to-face.

Our advice and guidance sessions provide much needed help and support to those with a range of issues from poor mental health, unemployability,
homelessness, addiction, low self-esteem and poverty, often someone will have a number of these issues. The advice and guidance takes the form of free laptop usage with internet access, signposting to other agencies, advocacy, help with form-filling, recognition of needs, help discovering benefit entitlements, landlord advice etc. The CBT course, which we call Living Life To The Full has some very encouraging, measured results.
The ReStore shop had to close for parts of this period due to COVID as did our newly launched Restoration shop where furniture restoration classes are given to those looking to gain skills for employment. Both outlets serve many purposes. They help people to gain work experience, they generate much-needed funds, host art therapy classes and are an attractive lead in a street requiring significant regeneration. Local council grants issued for COVID reasons, helped us through this period.
On reflection this was a very pleasing reporting year. At much personal sacrifice WEI continued to help the most needy during the most difficult of circumstances. WEI needs to set goals to improve in its identification and correction of Health & Safety risks and some of the admin work and governance needs further attention and updating. These should be easy to address and once improved will serve to better support the dedicated and successful front-line activities which reach out to those in need. It is a charity with few resources but a big heart for its local community and one that punches well above its weight.
I can confirm there is no serious incident to report.

Treasurer Report
INCOME AND EXPENSES
West End Impact continues to be well supported with donations from individuals, churches, voluntary and charitable groups from the Morecambe and Lancaster area which provides unrestricted income to cover running covers and general administration. Where individuals can be identified as tax payers and the use of Gift Aid Small Donation Scheme, then Gift Aid is claimed which amounted to an extra £2036.
Earned revenue from the Room Hire generated almost £2980 without much outlay.
The major revenue source remains restricted funding from Charitable Trusts primarily to cover salaries of key employees. Funding was received from the Francis Scott Trust, Tudor Trust, ASDA foundation, Anchor Foundation and Tesco, Co-op in grants and awards to cover the wages of Centre Manager, Volunteer manager, Youth and Community Worker and a sessional mental well-being worker. Foyle Foundation has awarded a grant for potential Parish Nurse Project.
New and alternative sources of awards and grants have been sourced to retain these posts, but they are only short-term solutions.
“Living Life to the Full” is an NHS approved peer lead course for depression with a sessional worker and staff and volunteer training, received funding from NHS Seed Funding.

Some funds received assisted with the running costs of the centre.
Income for the year was £148,028; this did exceed the expenses of £106,642. This is due to restricted funding arriving at different times over into this financial year.
ASSESTS & INVESTMENTS
As previous mentioned, West End Impact Centre (4 to 10 Heysham Road, Morecambe) was purchased, there remains owing £22,612 at the end of the year. The property was value in 2012 at between £200K and £250K.
NEXT YEAR
The financial challenges for the coming year will be to recover from Covid 19 restrictions and funding challenges, secure more funds or funding for key workers, for the Parish Nurse, Mental health worker and Advice & guidance sessions and an admin support worker.
