## **Introduction**

The Trustees present their annual report together with the audited financial statements of the charity for the year ended 31 March 2021. This report is aimed at illustrating the activities of the charity during the 2020/21 financial year.

The Board of Trustees is grateful to all AFMIM Slough Assembly members and voluntary workers for subscribing to the vision of the church and for rendering their support in cash and in kind throughout 2020/21.

## **Charity Objectives**

AFMIM Slough's main objective is to advance the Christian religion in accordance with core beliefs outlined in the church's constitution for the benefit of the public and our members. The objectives of the Charity are;

- To empower Christians to embrace the word of God and to reach out to the public and our community and to inspire individuals to participate God's work.

- To support missions within our community as well as in local and global shores.

- To minister the love of Christ to the saints and the needy through charitable service and giving.

- To serve our community through environmental care, community improvement and civic participation.

- To foster loving relationships and strong sense of community among the various groups of people in the community according to shared ministry, location or age group.

- To establish cell groups for mutual edification, mentorship, pastoral care, discovery and development of members.

## **Activities for Achieving Objectives**

The Church provides public worship services every Sunday from 10 am to 12pm. The Church also achieves its objectives by promoting evangelism through the outreach programme, organising workshops and teaching programmes.

The following are some of the various ways through which Slough Assembly seeks to achieve its objectives;

- Pastoral Care and counselling services

- Weekly Sunday school teachings

- Fundraising activities to support the activities of the Church to benefit its members and the public

- Supporting and donating to disaster appeals

- Food banks for our members and those in need in our local community

- Supporting and administering Weddings and Funerals for our members and non-members.

## AFMIM (UK) Slough Assembly

Our income was significantly higher than the previous financial year due to Gift Aid income and income from the government’s fellow scheme. Tithing income was also up by £4,598 from £25,367 reported during 2019/20.

2020/21 saw a significant reduction in the Church’s overall expenditure compared to the previous year. Expenditure was down about 53% due mainly to the savings from rent expenditure because of the Covid restrictions during the financial year which restricted religious gatherings. This meant that the Church did not have to pay rent for the usual Sunday service gatherings. The amount of realised savings because of the Covid restrictions was 17,150.

During 2020/21 Charity had approximately 120 members of the church. The number of people attending our Sunday service has significantly reduced since the Covid restrictions were lifted due to several members relocating to other geographical areas in UK and partly because we are still in the middle of a pandemic. The estimated average weekly attendance since the Covid restrictions were lifted is 40.

During the pandemic, we have consistently met online/virtual for the main Sunday services.

As well as our regular services, we enable the local community to celebrate and thank God by inviting the public to our Church Service.

Through offering baptism services, we thank God for the gift of life.

We offer support to our grieving members who have lost their loved ones through funeral services. We strongly believe in mourning with those who have suffered the death of a loved one and we offer our support both emotionally and materially.

We take pride and celebrate dedications, baptisms and weddings.

## **Congregation**

For the 2020/21 reporting year, the Church congregated online via the Zoom platform because of the Covid pandemic.

## **Pastoral Care**

AFMIM Slough Assembly is led by a full time Pastor, Reverend Edward Mazando. Reverend Mazando joined the AFMIM Slough Assembly on 1 December 2018 and he continues to lead the Church by overseeing all the activities of the Church with the support of the elected Church Board.

## **Ecumenical Relationships**

AFMIM Slough Assembly is a member of AFMIM UK International Ministries. In 2020/21 the Assembly participated national and regional conferences organised and facilitated by AFMIM UK International Ministries. All the national and regional services were conducted online.

## **Volunteers**

Most of the church workers are lay workers who volunteer to administer the day-to-day activities of the church. The Church has volunteers who help with tasks such as cleaning, sound engineering, serving of refreshments after church and decoration.

It is through the priceless work of our volunteers that the Church can achieve its objectives and perform its charitable activities in the community.

## **Structure, Governance and Management**

The **B** oard of Trustees oversees all activities that the church undertakes and is supported by the Church Board which is responsible for the day-to-day administrative activities of the Church.

This Church (Management) Board is elected by the members of the church in line with the Church's Constitution. The board is made up of the following members;

- Chairman,

- Vice Chairman

- Administrator

- Four Committee members

The Church (Management) Board is responsible for the general and operational management of the Charity and is responsible for developing and implementing annual plans with the support and overview of the Board of Trustees.

The Church Board is responsible for making decisions on all matters of general concern and importance to the church reporting and seeking approval from the Board of Trustees on matters of high risk to the Charity. The Church Board met once every 2 months during 2020/21.

The structure of the Church also consists of other operational subcommittees which report to the Church (Management) Board. These are;

- The Youth Committee,

- Praise and Worship Committee,

- Finance Committee,

## **Independent Examiner's Report**

**I report on the Accounts for AFMIM (UK) Slough Assembly as at 31 March 2021 .**

**Responsibilities of Trustees and Examiners**

As the church trustees you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. You consider the audit requirements of section 43(2) of the Charities Act 1993 (the Act) as amended by s.28 of the Charities Act 2006 do not apply. It is my responsibility to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.

## **Basis of Independent Examiner's Report**

My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of accounting records kept by the church and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeking explanation from trustees concerning such matters.

The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the view given in the accounts.

**Independent Examiners Statement**

pg. 8

## AFMIM (UK) Slough Assembly

In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:

1. Which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respects the requirements to keep accounting records in accordance with section 41 of the Act, as amended; to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and to comply with the accounting requirement of the Act; have not been met or:

2. To which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
