REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES

For the year ended 31 March 2025

Governing document

The governing document is the Declaration of Trust dated 20 August 2013.

Risk Management

The trustees have a duty to identify and review the risks to which the charity is exposed and to ensure appropriate controls are in place to provide reasonable assurance against fraud and error.

Procedures and policy for charitable distribution of general funds

During the year the trustees will meet to discuss and consider the work undertaken, the facilities and assistance required, the finances of the charity and how to promote the work of the charity.

Objectives and Aims

The Objectives of the Trust as stated in its Trust deed dated 20th August 2013 are:-

For the benefit of the public to relieve the suffering of British Wildlife in need of professional care and attention.

To provide and maintain rehabilitation units or other facilities for the reception, care and treatment of such British Wildlife.

To enable rehabilitation and release back to the wild.

To educate and provide information and resources to the public in matters pertaining to animal welfare in general and the prevention of cruelty and suffering among animals.

To provide information to Veterinary Practices, other Wildlife Centres and Charities.

Achievements and performance

Our commitment to improve our facilities continues with constant repairs and maintenance to the existing kennels and units. Our rural location has left us more vulnerable to crime as unfortunately, to our cost we were victims of this year. To negate any further losses, we have installed an upgraded camera system and monitor to offer greater safety and protection.

Our dedicated team of trained volunteers continues to expand giving people of all ages the chance to work with us. Other members of our qualified team of Veterinary Surgeons, nurses, RQP’s and VSA’s strive to expand their knowledge through CPD’s, University degrees, courses and training.

REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES cont

For the year ended 31 March 2025

Although it has created an overwhelming amount of administration we have once again provided student placements for those who are studying to come Veterinary Surgeons, Veterinary Nurses and work in aspects of Conservation. These students came from across the country, Nottingham, St Andrews, Edinburgh, Bath and Poole Universities, as well as Sparsholt and Kingston Maurward colleges and sixth form students from local schools. It has been very positive resuming our educational work after the Covid 19 pandemic restrictions. The feedback that we have received from these students and their requests to return to us next year has been a huge complement to our team.

Our Veterinarians, Veterinary Nurses, staff and volunteers were kept busy with injured, sick and orphaned British Wildlife casualties, with careful management and a strong dedicated team we have been able to continue to provide the very best veterinary treatment, nursing care and rehabilitation for all our patients.

The local community volunteers have been extremely supportive of our work during these difficult and challenging times for which we are most grateful, their enthusiasm and commitment have proved invaluable, their dedication is so appreciated. Local businesses have continued to support us with donations Marks and Spencer’s and Sainsburys with food items and All the Cool Stuff and Three Wishes with financial support for our charity. Local community groups such as Hillview Art and Artlink have also contributed to our fund raising through their weekend sales of art.

We have continued our educational talks to schools, groups and colleges and plan to expand this area of our work.

Government Bird Flu restrictions remain with no end in sight. These restrictions affect us significantly and are adhered to throughout our hospital and grounds. Our barrier nursing and bio-security systems are always in place with additional practices adopted to avoid contamination.

The Hospital continues with its commitment to research and offer the latest techniques and treatments to our British Wildlife casualties.

Future Plans

The Trust will continue to offer advice and educate the public in aspects of conservation, wildlife and animal welfare and to take in the sick or injured wildlife that they find. The Trust will continue with the rescue, veterinary treatment, nursing, rehabilitation and, wherever possible, the release of the British Wildlife who were initially admitted to our hospital for treatment.

Staff training and education will continue with external college courses, CPD access and on-line courses.

Fundraising will continue. We receive no Government funding at all. Once again, the HIWCF have forwarded an application form for next year. We are continuing our programme of “Lunch and Learn” CPD’s for veterinary Surgeons and Veterinary Nurses to raise funds. One of our dedicated volunteers has expanded the area covered with Charity donation boxes in business premises.

REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES cont

For the year ended 31 March 2025

Veterinary Practices from whom we take in their clients wildlife casualties continue to send their nurses to our RCVS Hospital for training in triage and handling of wildlife casualties. This is a good opportunity to both educate nurses and raise funds for the Hospital.

We are here for the benefit of British Wildlife and people, volunteering opportunities and employment are open to all following our protocol of equality, diversity and inclusion.

We will continue to offer support, information and resources to Veterinary Practices other wildlife centres and charities.

Financial Review

At the year-end £60,885 was held in the charity bank account. This is sufficient to cover six months of costs for the charity. The charity does not hold any reserves, with money being used to further the protection of wildlife as it becomes available.

Trustees' responsibilities for the accounts

Charity Law requires the trustees to prepare accounts for each financial year which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the trust and its financial activities for that period. In preparing these financial statements the trustees are required to:

The trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records which disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time of the financial position of the charity. Basis of the independent Examiner's Report

My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners. Independent Examiner's Statement

In connection with my examination no matter has come to my attention:
