## **2. Operations Report** 


## **Overview** 

The World Bank report that _**'The COVID-19 pandemic has raised global income inequality, both within and between countries, setting back progress by a decade or more. Vulnerable groups, including low-income people, youth, women, and low-skilled and informal workers, have faced particularly severe job and income losses. Without a forceful policy response, there is a risk that higher inequality will become entrenched**_ **'.** 

## **Network Membership** 

Network Membership has increased to 1,670+  Member organisations in 42 countries. The global pandemic has emphasised the value of digital resources which can reach and help leaders anywhere, without the need to travel which is both environmentally friendly as there is no need to travel so is highly cost effective. 

## **Website Improvement** 

A major project in the year was a restructuring of the website to make it more user friendly and to give easier addition of new resources

New resources have been researched and added to the Network website, to maintain as comprehensive a resource as possible for Members use.  While being Christian led the Network resources are maintained as secular content to ensure safe use in sensitive areas and to help people of any faith or none 

Discussion continued with Members and Trustees on the potential adoption of these digital  resources by governments in developing countries to help accelerate the global goals for 2030

## **Members Newsletters** 

Quarterly newsletters have been sent to all Network members with positive feedback 

## **Youth Empowerment** 


With the help of a multinational team of young people, the Youth Empowerment resource was completed as a series of 24 YouTube Playlists, and has been added to the website. Additional topics have been identified for research and addition to this resource 

## **Community Transformation** 


A young Malawi woman graduate  (Thokozire Mtonga) was recruited to lead this project development in a severely disadvantaged community of Kawale in the Chitipa district of Northern Malawi, in collaboration with a local Church leader 

A community survey identified their ten priorities which may well be the priorities of many other disadvantaged communities which if addressed effectively could bring about sustainable transformation in the quality of life

Development progressed with a focus on income generation and helping young people with training and some financial help for 12 young people to start their own income generation plus the establishment of a Farmers Association

A small financial incentive of £50 was provided for new ten start ups after training in both Mzuzu and Kawale communities 

## **Climate Resilience** 


Limited research attempted to identify how impoverished communities to build their resilience against the problems linked to climate change 

## **Facebook** 


The global Community Development Network  Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/network.for.community.development has now been restaged and improved to encourage new members and share developments, as reported in the four Members Newsletters Resources published during the year 

## **4. Staffing** 

We have appreciated the help and advice of our Trustees, but have so far, been unable to recruit more volunteers in the UK to provide an appropriate infrastructure. However a decision was taken to fund a full time Development Assistant  (Thokozire Mtonga) in Malawi and a  part time a student Linda Malecaj, at Istanbul University)  to assist Youth resource and facebook development 

We have received many encouraging messages from overseas Network Members indicating the potential for further development and growth of the Network. 

## **6. Financial Report** 

(Note: No formal inspection or audit of accounts was necessary in this fiscal year) 

## **Financial Summary** 

Due to the time needed to prepare grant applications only a few applications to carefully selected donor agencies have been made 

We are therefore very grateful to the Souter Trust and the Tory Foundation and personal donors for their contributions most of which have been allocated to the Kawaale Community development project 

It is hoped that progess made with our website resources and increasing development of Youth Empowerment and Climate Resilience Resources will increase the interest of donors to support this pioneering digital charity

## **Overseas Transfer Control** 

It is important that any monies transferred abroad are used effectively in the furtherance of our aims.  Control is based on an established ‘partner’ relationship, an agreed project plan and a signed filed Funding Agreement, which includes obligations for reports and feedback 

Conventional bank transfers and Moneygram have been used for money transfers
