Music for Everyone Trustees, Report (continued) Financial reTriew Policy on reserves The reserves policy is to have a miniinum of 3 months operating costs in reserves. The reserves at Au.trust 2024 have risen slightly to slightly above this level. Chair's Annual Report It's been an ellonnous pleasure and privilege to lead Music for Everyone as your chair of ttustees for the last Dine years. As requiTed by our Collstitution. my tem] of "office" ends with tbe atmual meeting, and a new leadersliip will guide our future development. So I twst it's not too self-indulgent to review not just the past year. bul also how our charity bas progressed since I took over from my predecessor Alldrew James. I recall my initial three priorities= raisillg MtE's profile through social media, boosting pariiciparion- especially atnonts the young - and encouraojiio tsreater partnership working with other organisations. We'v¢ l￿d success in all three areas, cspccially over the past year. The i]npact of Covid and lock doThn had a huge impact on MfE, as it did for so many other creaiive and volulltary orgaDisations. Thanks to you, oiir loyal supporters, my fellow trustees and our dedicated staff. we survived the stonn and are now in much calmcr waters. That's reflected in our annual accounts, which show an unrestricted surplus on the year of £9,028. This is the fjrst titne for a number of years that ME has been able to make a surplus and it reflects the hard work undertaken by staff and trnstees to set a break-even budget and keep tight control on the final￿eS throughout the year. We also had success witb funding applications and awards froffj other community groups for our work, and the contilluing doiiations from our many supporters. In addition to the u￿eStrICted surplus, th¢ Founder's Fund for innovation aud artistic excellence has established to support ideas for fiiture progratnmes. We are grateful as always to BookwÉse and its many volunt¢eTS, who have confinned a donation of £45,120 casli and further in kind support totallillg over £66,900. The directors of Bookwise contiiiue to plan development for all the book shops (NewarL Southwell & NOttIngh￿ll) and tnade significant improvements to the Hockley shop front in Nottingliam's creative quarter, with assistauce from a govemment "Levelling Up" grant. A key role of the MtE trustees is overseeing the cbarity and managing change. Following the departure of our Executive DirectQT. DoDna Fox. the trll5tee5 oversaw a reSt￿Ctt￿e of MtE's day-tovday management aThd leadership. Our Artistic Director (Alex Robinson). Assistant Anistic DiTeCtor (Racliel Parkes) and General Manager (Su Evans) have now taken on additional responsibilities and are working collectively as OUT leadership team. At the AGM last y¢ar. il was agreed to incr¢as¢ the number of trustee5 to lline. It was to reflect the inereas scale and breadth of MfE's work and the responsibilities and wo￿Oad of ￿ste¢S. We have conf1rn￿d terms of reference for our three sub-committees (flliance. artistic & marketing) to work more effectively. Page 5

Music for Everyone Trustees, Report (continued) This is a timely momellt to welcome our new trustees.. Catherme Hocking alld Gary Ackrill, who were elected i 2024. and Dave Hatherly, David Orton, and Chris Allen, who were co-opted during tlie year. I am also grateful for the support, advice and encouragement of our other tDJStees Rachel Emtnett ￿]d Josie TanviT. And a big thanks again to fomier trustees Angela Smallwood and Matt L￿, who stood down last year. As you may know, Olle of our trustees Janet Wootton died just before CElliStmas last year. Janet was a higlily valued trustee, who brought considerable experience to our decision-jnaking as a board. as well as singillg with the Festival Chorus. It's been another year lo celebrate remarkable MfE music ll￿kIllg. Hot on the heels of our 41)th an￿versary gala onc¢n, die Nottingbam Chamber Choir is Ihis yeaT marking ils 40th anniversary. Both events demonstrate the joy ￿]d thoroiioh enjoyment of coming together and singin(y a inix of a classical alld conleinporary repertoire. The anniversaries have also been an opportLllllty to officially thank those who have made an exceptional contribution to the developmellt and impact of MtE. The tnislees decided to create a "Roll of Hono[￿, Headed by our re]narkabl¢ FoiLnder Angela Kay MBE, there are l O other n￿neS on OUT initial "Roll of Honour" The D￿neS appear on QUT web site and. in futtire, will appear heie in the annual report, wliicli is an official docutlleiit ihat is sent to the Office of the Charity Commission. Their dedication and commithienl over many years, and your continuing support, are what makes m￿ such a wollderful and cherished organisation. The trustees are delighted that our Artistic Director Alex Robinson - appointed in 2023 has en]braced that tradition and has introduced inally of us to an exciting progran]m¢ of music making froin the classical repertoire. It's even caught the attention of King Charles. We invited His Majesty to our "In the King's Company" concert. which Alex cl￿ated and conducted. The King was unable to atteiid. but in a letter froin Buckinghatn Palace, the King said he was "most interested to learn about Music for Everyone" and conveyed "his wartnest good wishes" Looking ahead, I bave cvery confidence that MtE will continue to play a key role in the musical and artistic life of Nottingham and Nottiiighamshire. As I've often said, spread tbe word: Inusic making shouldn't be an ¢litist pleasuTe, il's for everyone to enjoy. That's what we do. Hence our name - "Music for Everyone." John Hess. Chair, Music for Everyon¢ Roll of Honour MtE introduced a new scheme this yeat to recognise key individuals who have contributed so much to the organisation's development since its foundation in 1983. The Roll of HonouT will appear in ￿tUre a]llwal reports and on MtE's website, with illforniation about their contribution.
