2013.The governin8 document of the CIO is its constitutlon which has not been Material￿ chan8ed
since foundatlon.
Objectives and Activities
The obJectlves of CITL are the promotlon for the publlc benefit of the efflclency and effectNene55 of
charities and not-for-profit or8anI5ations throu8h the promotion of study, sharing of knowledge and
advancement of the use of Informatlon techno108V.
We are a membershlp organlsatlon where the member Is the charfty and are represented by thelr
senlor IT managers and other IT and dlgitsl staff,
We ochleve our oblertlves by:
Member Meetlngs. where we Invlte speakers of Interest and en¢oura8e debate and
networklng.
Groups. formed to cover areas of Interest to members. on any subject relevant to
Informatlon Technologv.
Our Annual Conference.
Our webslte and 50¢1al medla tools.
Partlclpatlon In and pre5entln8 at events run by other orB•nlsatlons where there a clear
relevance and benefit to doln8 SO.
Developln8 and dellverlng ad hoc Inltlatlves that wlll enhance skllls and knowled8e wlthln
our membershlp.
Worklng wlth sponsors and other partners to develop and dellver spedallst content on
toplcs of Interest and Importance to members.
The charlty uses flnance admlnlstratlve 5ervlces from Moore Klngston Smlth Association
Management IMWMI. All Trustees are volunteers and recelve no remuneratlon for thelr act6vltles
on behalf of the charlty. They ère elected at the Annual General Meetln8 which 15 held in October
each year. Where a post15 not fllled the Trustees may co-opt an Indlvldual to fulfll the role untll the
next AGM.
The charlty has two pald pemianent employees. The staff team Is responslble for the sustainable
development of the or8anlsatlon, Improvln8 member 5ervlces and engagement, develop5n8 effectlve
relatlonshlps wlth sponsors and other external partners. and for ralslng the proflle and credibility of
the organi5ation. In addition to the CEO, each trustee is responsible for the promotion of the charity,
Includlng ralslng awarEness of the organlsatlon, ensurlng our content and events are relevant and
support continued Improvement in the use of Technologyi Data and Di8ltal across the not-for-profit
sector and for Introduclng new members and Sponsors.

Report on Activities in the Period
Chair's Report
To wrlte the Chalrs address. l always make a polnt to look back on prevlous years reports. 2021122
was stlll heavlty Impacted by the uncertainty and anxlety of the Covld pandemic. I wrote 3boLrt how
hope was Startlng to retum, and the challenges of what a POSt-pandemit world would mean for all
of our futures.
Looklng back therefore on 2022123. It was refreshlng that Covld did not even make the Ilst of
hlghlights lor lowllghts In that Casel. There wa5 however one key factor whlch both tarnlshed, but
also showed us what CITL was made of.
Our annual conference which ha5 run for so long In the same way and often In the same venue was
put In jeopardy In a way no one had concelved. We have dlscussed on many occaslons the rlsk5
around our core actl¥btles and even enacted some of the mltigation strategies during the pandemic,
But havlni to cancel our maln event on the day It was due to start was never planned for. A major
water leak In the area, two days before the event had flnally Imparted the hotel where our
conference was belng held. We clung on to the hope that the problem mlght be fixed In tlme and
even as the water board gave the all-clear the nlght before, the hotel st511 had no water. It was wlth
heavy heart that we had to make the declslon to cancel.
What happened In the those few hours showed me what CITL15 all about, We all came together,
staff, trustees, member5, sponsors and speaker5. Everyone was drawln8 on thelr comblned crlsis
management experlence. Calls were made to dele8ates already en route. Coffee urns were fllled
wlth bottled water. Pastrles. Snacks and sandwiches were bought at nearby shops as we all trled to
get the message out.
Le55 than two hours later and St was over. The last people started thelr long journeys home. Re?Ilty
Was Stlll slnkln8 In that all of the preparatlon and hard work that had 8one into the or8anlsatlon gf
the event was wasted.
Or was Itl
The hotel had offered to move our booklng. Communlcation had already gone out to Dur members
of the new conference dates to be held In Febnjary 2023. Speakers were conflrmln8 thelr re-
attendance and so to were the delegates.
But what dld thls mean for CITL. Comin8 Out of the back of a 8lobal pandemic with finances already
belng Stretched. Could we really run two conferences In the same year. Some hard declslons had to
be made. One of which was lo nol use our external events team to run the February event. By
carrylng forward booklngs and ut1115in8 our new internal resource and second member of staff, we
managed to reduce costs enough to not On￿ run the event but to make our best yet.
But what else happened?
Lookln8 back over 2021123,1ts hard not to focu5 on the calamity of the annual conference In
October'22. But It was also a time of big changes in CITL. As mentioned earlier, we hired our second
employee. A change whlch has had profound Impact on the organlsatlon. More resources mean we
can communlcate morel plan more. achieve more. and most importantly provide more,

Our membership numbers have started to go back up, our rnembetshlp
enga8ement has gone up and our heads contlnue to be held up wlth prlde and respect.
Together we can achleve anythln8. ID 2022n3 we showed that.

The Chalrfs report hlghll8hts the many successes achleved by Charty IT Leader5 and our communlty
In 2022-23. puttlng us In a strong posltlon to cortlnue our growth and development In 2023-24 and
beyond.
Our dl8ltal partners and Gold Spon50r5, Cygnet Dl8ltal, h?ve been workin8 closely wlth us to dellver
new CRM system. Having undergone a thorou8h review and selection process, we felt that Beacon
Charlty CRM would give us both the funrtlonallty that we need for now, and the flexlbllity to scale
wlth us Bs we grow. We are in the latter stage5 of conflguratlon, and wlll shortly be under8oln8 UT
wlth a vlew to 8oln8 Ilve wlth the rnembershlp module before Chrlstmas 2023.
Additlonal functlonallty wlll be launched In the comlng months, provldln8 an Intultlve member
experlence vla the member portal, and further admlnlstratlve efficlencles that wlll en•ble us to
dellver more and expand the scope of our activlties,
We are hugely 8rateful to Peter, Nlck and the team at Cygnet for thelr support at every stage of the
CRM process. and also to Laura Moore and Jane Huntln8ton for 8lvln8 thelr tlme, expertlse and 8A
skllls to bear In revlewln8 and refinlnq our processe5 and structure5, and optlmlsln8 the beneflt we
wlll realise from Beacon.
The CRM wlll support us In dellverlng a number of membershlp marketln6 campalgns to Increase the
number of member organlsatlons. We wlll also be workln8 wlth sponsors to Increase our reach and
enga8e wlth thelr charlty and non-proflt customers. Thls Is Important not onty to support our
flnanclal 5tablllty and Increase the breadth and depth of knowledge wlthln the communlty, but also
to strengthen our ablllty to advocate for our sector wlth èuthorlty and credlblllty.
In addltlon to dellverlng two conferences In one flnanclal year, we have also presented a number of
other events Ineludlng the quarterty meetln8s, weblnars and roundtables, Llnkedln Llve events and
socials. We have delivered some of these In partnershlp wlth our sponsors. enablln8 US to provlde
wlde-rangln8 content to support and Infom) our members across the breadth of thelr techno108V
nd leadershlp requirements.
Other everrts have been made p055lble by the commltment of our members and have demonstrated
lust what can be achleved when Indlviduals feel strongly about partlcular toplcs and challenges. We
must thank Matt Secker for all hls work or8anlslng and chalrlnl a number of meetln85 to explore the
complexltles of BYOD and help meM￿r$ Identlfy the rlght approach for thelr or8anlsatSons.
The Ortober conference was our most successful to date, brin8lng together top-notch speakers,
more member case studies and hlghly en8a8lng and thou8ht-provoklng unconference sesslons.
More members attended than ever before. and the feedback from everyone who participated ha5
been overwhelmingly positive. The bar Is set very hl8h for the conference in 2024, but we are
confldent we can rlse to the challenge.
We are In the pro¢ess of reviewing our current events programme and planning the events for 2024.
We aim to dellver at least three events each month over the next year, Including small briefing
meetlngs, regular check-lns, weblnars. more Llnkedln Uves, podtasts, roundtables and Q&A sesslons.
We will also develop guidance to SUPPOrt members in h05ting meetlngs through the CITL Teams
hannel. enabllnB them to follow-up on the many and varled tDplcs and dlscusslons sprlnglnB up In

Teams and the WhatsApp Group. We recognise that members en8age
differently with events as hybrld worklng beeomes even more tommon and wlll adapt the waywe
dellver events to ensure that they are accesslble and relevant and answer the challenges that people
face.
It has been fantastlc to follow the wId￿rang1n8 toplc5 discussed In the WhatsApp group and see
members comln8 tO8ether to support and help each other. The sense of cornmunity is 8rowln8>
which will only increase the benefits for members. Over the next twelve months we want to build on
this collaboratlon and partlclpotlon and enable members to host events, access content and work
together more effectlvely In our Teams channel, benefltlng from the sharEd expErlence and skllls of
our entlre membersh5p.
We have made slgnlficant progress In the tranS￿l0n of our Trurtee Board Irom a very hands-on.
operatlonal role to a 8overnance fun¢tlon. We will complete th15 evolutlon In 2023-24. We have
5tren8thened the Board through the appointment of an independent Trustee. who brings
commercial and data expertlse. Our current Chèlr wlll complete hls term at the end of 2024, $0 we
wlll be undertakln8 a robust and Incluslve recrultment process to Identlfy the next Chalr.
Appllcatlons for thls role wlll, of course, be welcomed from exlstlnl trustees and members.
We are thrllled that our Thrive Leadershlp Development Pro8r•mme, almed at women leaders In
tech In the non-proftt sector has launched. The pro8ramme Is In It5 early 5ta8e5, but Inltlal feedback
has been very posltlve. As one of the partlclpants I have alrea(ty benefited hugety from the
programme. and I look fO￿ard to sharln8 some of the 5nsl8hts and hl8hli8hts wrth members as the
programme pro8re55es.
am so proud of all that we have achleved over the last twelve months, and exclted for the
opportunltles ahead. It Is a prlvlle8e and a pleasure to lead CITL and to be part of a communty that
Is supportlve and collaboratlve. As a collertive. we enable positlve change In soclety, and provlde
support across so many vltsl Causes. I would Ilke to thank all our members for thelr ¢ommltment and
engagement and the trustees for thelr dedlcatlon and support. In partlcular, I must thank our Chalr.

The Trustees confirm that they have complied with the duty in section 17 of the Charities Act 2011

The Board of Trustees have referred to the guidance contained in the Charity Comrni55ion'5 general

future artlvltie5. In partlcular, the Tiustees consider how planned actNlties wlll contrtbute to the
alm5 and obJectlves set.
Reserves Policy
Our overall flnanclal alm Is to spend our income on charitable actlvltles for our member, while
retalning sufflclent funds to enable us to recover from a poor conference. l.e. sufflclent reseries to
run the charltyfor a year, excludln8 conference costs.
Sources of income
We have two main sources of Income:
Membershlp fees and
Sponsorshlp Income.
The charlty Is VAT reilstered and does not clalm any exemptlons from VAT.
