## Viewpoint Community Media Registered Charity 1153153 ## **Trustees Annual Report** ## **April 2023 – April 2024** The Charity was formed on the 22[nd] July 2013 and this was its 10th year of operation. The current Trustees are: 1. Rupert Kirkham 2. Hannah Parry 3. Roger Ogle 4. Martin Parry 5. Paul Jellings Martin Parry took over temporarily as Acting Chair during this year. Activity has been quieter since the Coronavirus pandemic. The amount of public approaches and requests for assistance has not returned to previous levels. We did however enable/assist several new programmes with local musicians and we distributed productions made by local film-makers. Plus we made a documentary on a local archaeology dig. Without much new programming we have taken the opportunity to redistribute strong programming from some years back. This has proven very popular, and helps maintain an interest in the wider community and its social and cultural life. We held a small celebration in September 2023 to mark the 50th anniversary of our Swindon Viewpoint Community Television service. A small number of archive films were restored, digitised and again made available to the public this year, these included historic footage of the development of the town. Despite attempts, we did not however succeed in raising sufficient funding to cover equipment or the demands of distribution, nor funding to contract external filmmaker / trainers / animateurs to work with local groups and individuals. We therefore were not able to embark on desired initiatives in this area. No new funds were raised this year, and our balance currently stands at £3254, which is needed for further archive consolidation so unavailable for projects. Our main source of funding over the past few years has been from DVD sales of the Films ' **Railway Town** ' and ' **Fire and Stee** l' and income from this source has been substantial in the past, but is unsurprisingly now tailing off as more and more interested people have already purchased copies, and fewer people these days use DVD. To achieve best results we need to emphasise further funding initiatives. One thing that remains particularly crucial is to raise the funding to rebuild our website www.swindonviewpoint.com. This is now more than fourteen years old, built on an obsolete platform (Drupal) and no longer functions correctly when it does at all. We are primarily distributing via other platforms at present (e.g. Vimeo and Facebook). One application for funding was made but was unsuccessful. A further funding application to a different source is now planned and partly drafted.
