report with the finanaal statements of the chafity for the year ended 31 December 2023. The Iruslees have
adopted the provisions of Accounling and Reporting by Charilies.. Statement of Recommended Practice

applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland IFRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019)
OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
Objectives

Church partners and attendees have been encouraged to bewme active in the expression ol their Christian
faith through.,
teaching. encouragement and practKal demonstration on how to follow the example of Jesus, in failh,
word and action.
Collective acts of worship.
The Church also provided funeral servrces, with emotional and practul support provided for the famity and
friends of those who had passed away.
Aims and purposes
The trustees are responsible for ensuring that City Church Preston fulfils rts charitable aims which are lo
advance Ihe Christian faith. relieve sickness and financial hardship, and advance education.
The Iruslees ¢onfirrn that they have referred lo the guidance contained in the Charity Commission's general
guidance on public benefit when reviewing the charitys aims and objectives.

ACHIEVEMENT AND PERFORMANCE
Charitable activities and revlew ol the year
City Church Preston Is a vibrant lailh communtty centred on the teaching and example of Jesus Christ. 11 is a
community which is socially and ethnically dNerse, inclusive. and connects wlh all ages. The Church is
welcoming lo all, particularty those who are interested lo ￿arn more about the Christian faith. Opportunities
such as the 'Alpha course, have been provided for those who wish lo gain an understanding of Ihe basic
principles of Christianity. together wilh water bapb.smal ServI￿S for those who wish to be baplised.
During 2023 the Church provided a nefv40rk of praclKal support for people, I[￿l￿dIng pastoral support for
those in challenging situations. visiting those who were sick. and support for the elderly and disabled.
Practical support and guidance were made available to those who were In financial difficulty, together with
prayer and support lor difficult situations faced by those in the ¢hurch community, their colleagues, friends,
family and the wider community.
The food market provision has been a consistent source of encouragement. wlh many members of the local
community not onty engaging wth this, bul also volunteering lo help run it_ Pastoral connections were
mainlaine(i through one-lo-one sessions to encourage and support individuals. The Iruslees are grateful lo
Preston City Council for grant fundin9 which underwrites the Cost of the food distributed al the market and
allows a good selecb'on of fresh food lo ￿ made available in addition lo tinned and packet goods.
Throughoul the year the Ghurch leaders taught on the nature of God's juslice and how this has practical
implications for the way we live. The opportuntty was provided for our diverse community lo share their
experiences and insights on God's justi￿ - capturing many different cultural perspectives and leaming much
about each other in the proTrss. This provKled reassurance and encouragement lo many_
At Easter the church launched a Tamil-speakin9 Servi￿ on Sunday aftemoons lo cater for those from south
India and Sri Lank8_ This has been a great encouragement lo the community. Messages 8re shared in Tamil
and translated into English for those who need it. This has increased the church's reach Into a growing
community in Preston as many people arnve for study, or lo work in the carelheallhcare sectors. The church
is able lo ne￿Ork FEople and help them sellle by providing practthl and pasloral support as they adjust to a
new culture. Intentional work is undertaken lo create spa￿S where the thurch comes together as one body.

For the first time in many years, the church held an away day to which all were invrted. Approximately 70
people joined together al Bleasdale Parish Hall in the Trough of Bowland and enjoyed challing, games,
walking, food and worshipping together in a differenl environment For some It was a (are opportunrty to gel
out of Preston, with transport provided. Thanks lo the generosity of the church community everything was free
of charge.
Strong corbneclions have been rnade with students and young adults through weekly a¢livilies for the 18-30s.
A significant woporbon of the students who connect wrth the church are from abroad. We are able lo provide
a warm and welcoming 'home from home. environment where friendship and t*er support are fostered This
has positive effects on people's wellbeing. The stK)rls hall is well used by this group.
Children and young people are encouraged in their farth ioumey Ihrough age-appropriate Gonlenu
opportunities lo explore queslions of faith and allowed to reach their ¢)wn ¢onclusions_
The church continued lo live-stream Sunday services on the church website and YouTube, helping members
who were olherwise unable to allend to access the leaching and allowing prospective visitors lo get a
foretssle bef￿e they arrived. Church ServI￿S and content were rnade widety available and advertised on the
church website, notices in the buikjing, and through s(￿127 media. so that they weie made available to as
many people as possible.

ACHIEVEMENT AND PERFORMANCE
Staff and volunteers
All areas of church life are essenlialty staffed by volLJnleers who freety give their time and skills, and wilhoul
whom the chanty could not function. Towards the ènd of the year the church aproinled a part-lime
Safeguarding Co-ordinator. The only other remunerated staff members during 2023 were the part-lime Lead
Pastor, and the part-time Chutch Caretaker.
Two leadership 'away days. were undertaken in the year wth the trustees and Ministry Team coming together
lo pray, plan, and learn together. This approach was well receNed and will be Incorporated Into future ways of
working.
Mls$lons
As in previous years. there continues lo be a strong emphasis on missions work outside the church itself
locally, around the UK and overseas. During the period the church has given £12,188 to support missions.
This has included direct support to missionaries vK)rking in the UK and overseas. As part of the church's
theme of'God's justi￿, all of our partneis were invited lo attend in person and speak lo Ihis theme during the
course of the year. Powerful contributions were shared by spe2keis on issues as diverse as the persecuted
Church, where is God when we face Iile-conlrolling issues, creation care. and justs.ce in developing countries.
Church premlses
The church building, Sl Thomas. Cenlre, gNes City Church Preston an operatin9 base, a home in the
community, and supports the extension and developrnent of ministy opportunities within the Community we
serve. All church services and the weekly coffee morning drop-in, which allows pastoral ¢onver5alions and
support, and create5 an accessible conneclion F(sinl for the I￿1 community, are held in the building.
Partnerships
The Church is committed lo playing a full part in Ihe Assernblies of God GB fellowship, aiming lo always be a
net contributor lo this wider ne￿ork. This includes conlribuling lo the AOG GB INCARE Relief and
Development fund, and playing an active role in the AOG Hub and Zone meetings. September the Lead
Pastor look oft a voluntary role supporting AOG armed forces chaplains. which makes use of the expertise he
has developed in his paid employment for the MelhTrYisl Church. The Church also continues lo benefit from
close working with other churches and organisalions in Preston. the North Wesl and elsewhere in the UK and
abroad. A successful partnership with Preston City Council and Fareshare conb.nued to provide food markets
each month.
The Church continues to pursue partnerships that are of benefit to attendees and the wder ￿MmUnity. such
as ils partnerships with Community Sdutr"ons. Diverse Church. Fusion (linking into the students al UCLanl,
Mercy UK and many others.
Summary
There has been a conlinualton of the gcx)d work carried out by the church, with many people. tx)Ih young and
Old, being empowered and encouraged lo make better life choices. For Some this has been lo lake further
steps on their journey to faith, wlh a number tEcoming part of the church Gommunity. The church was able to
provide pastoral, emotional and practical support lo those in need. In all these areas the Trustees wish lo
record their thanks to God for his leading and provision, logelher with their thanks to all the volunteers who
have sacrificially gwen of iheir lime and finance in service lo both the church community and the wider
communty.
FINANCIAL REVIEW
Reserves policy
The Charity has a Reserves Policy which Klentifies a prudent level of reserves. based on hokjing an amount
equal lo circa six months salary bill.
Additional to this is a value held in reserve for the planned and unplanned maintenance of St Thomas, Centre
on Lancaster Road North, which is the operating base for the Church.

STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT
Governing document
The charity is controlled by its governing document. the Articles of Ass(xiation, and constitutes a limited
cornpany, limited by guarantee, as defined ty the Companies Act 20C6.
Recruitment and appointment of new trnstees
The trustees of the charity are responsible for the leadership and management of the charty lo fulfil the
objectives of the charity in line wlh Biblical pnncIp￿S and legal requirements. Appointment of additional
trustees is the responsibility of the existing trustees.

The Iruslees have a duty to identify and review the risks to which the charity is exposed and lo ensure
appropriate controls are in place to provide reasonable assurance against fraud and error.

The financial statements of the charitable company, which is a public benefit entity under FRS 102,
have been prepared in accordance wtth the Charities SORP (FRS 1021 'Aecounting and Reporting by
Charities". Statement of Recommended Practice applicable lo charities preparing their accounts in
accordan￿ wlh the Financial ReportJ"ng Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland IFRS

The charitable company operates a defined contribution pension scheme. ContribulK)ns payable lo the
